Living Spell Jar:

I came up with this the other day after seeing some spell jar recipes, so I thought why not combine my love of indoor gardening with witchcraft? This is a living spell jar! I used this for a continual self love + growth spell but you can adapt this to your own needs <3

You will need:

- a clean jar (can be sealed or unsealed

- cleansed non-water-soluble stones / crystals

- charged water (moon/sun/river etc.)

- moss (and terrarium plants like ferns, Fittonia etc if you have them!)

- bit of regular potting soil

Instructions:

1. Moss can be collected pretty much from anywhere outside (make sure it’s not from protected areas of course). I use the really common green fluffy moss (ordinary moss) you can find growing on brick/ forest floors etc, I just remove a bit with a knife and leave the rest.

2. Draw a sigil on the bottom of the jar with the intention you want for the spell jar (I’m using one for personal growth and self love)

3. Layer a couple cm of potting soil on top

4. Add the moss by pressing it down lightly onto the soil- it should establish itself in a couple of weeks! You can also add any small terrarium plants you have!

5. Decorate with the stones / crystals! make sure you charge them with the intention for you jar. (I used clear quartz, rose quartz and moss agate)

6. Spray charged water into the jar (and seal if you have a lid- if not just mist more regularly)

7. Voila! Feel free to charge the jar itself with your intentions (I like to leave it in moonlight overnight) as well for an extra boost!

Check on the jar once a week or so to mist / check the health of the moss! Keep away from direct sunlight- a desk or north-facing windowsill would do well!

I got this cool jar at a Halloween store with a bat on the top and I was inspired by this fable by Phaedrus called “The Birds and the Bat,” it tells of the bat trying to avoid getting involved in the battle between land animals and birds. The bat, savvy thing that he is, sits on the sidelines, neutrally observing until he knows which side is the winning one. So basically the bat just stayed out of all the drama and waited for it to end.

Rose Quartz- to replace negative energy with positive energy

Basil- to create sympathetic vibrations and assist in clashes with others

Dried apples- for wisdom, love, happiness, and peace

Cloves- promotes healing, heightens courage, and provides insight to pain

Fresh Lavender- to dispel depression and help control emotions

Black salt- for repelling negative energy (made with sandalwood ashes for cleansing and protection from negative energy)

Rose petals- for protection against the evil eye

Oregano- for happiness and letting go

Cinnamon- to empower spell and deepen insights

Eucalyptus oil- heal and purify of negative psychic energy especially when people have been engaged in verbal, emotional or physical combat

seal with white wax for peace, balance, truth, and unity

Okay but for anyone who legit wants to know how to calculate it correctly:

The elbow joint on average rests a couple inches higher than the navel, so if you measure how long the distance is from the middle of the shoulder to that point then you have the length of the upper and fore arms!

So if anyone’s wondering about legs too, the simplest rule of thumb is that the length from the top of the leg to the knee is equal to the distance between the top of the leg and the bottom of the pectorals:

And I wanna stress that when i say “top of the leg” i’m not talking about the crotch (please don’t flag me tumblr it’s an anatomical term) i’m talking about the point where the femur connects to the pelvis, which is higher up on the hips:

So yeah if you use that measurement when using this technique you should get fairly realistically proportioned legs:

But remember! messing with proportions is an important and fun part of character design! Know the rules first so you can then break them however you please!

SPELL JARS ON A BUDGET!

Want to make a spell jar necklace but only have big jars? Or no jars at all? You can reuse empty essential oil bottles! And also uses that last little bit of oil left in the bottle so you don’t waste a drop!!

In my case, I had like 3 bottle’s of lavender essential oil and one of them was in this cute little tiny bottle so I dumped the rest of it into a different bottle so I could make a creativity spell jar! I used:

Lavender essential oil- (what was left over in the bottle) for peace of mind, memory, a clairvoyance

Cinnamon- for creativity, luck, and success

Sage- to enhance wisdom and purify self

Salt- to cleanse and absorb bad energy

Quartz- for creative insight and concentration

Lizard skin- for protection and growth (now this ingredient is completely optional! obviously, not everyone has a pet lizard but in my case I do and I save the skin she sheds for spells)

Then I just put the plastic dropper thing back in and sealed it with black candle wax for wisdom an protection and drew a creativity sigil on it with a paint marker

“You Cannot Touch Her” Curse/Binding

This curse is particularly for people who have done harm in the past, and as such already known to be a potential threat. The idea is to keep the person from speaking to or approaching the one you’re trying to protect, and to make them feel watched and judged for their past actions.

You will need the following:

A jar big enough to hold a poppet

Some kind of poppet - I used a wooden one with the offender’s name written on the bottom. A photo could also be used

White out

A black candle

A mixture of black salt & cayenne pepper

A sigil of your own design meaning “You cannot touch [name or pronoun]”

A permanent marker

Light the candle and white out the mouth of your poppet. Roll the poppet in the mixture of black salt and cayenne pepper (black salt tends to stain so keep this in mind). Place it in the jar and seal the lid, leaving the poppet inside under the gaze of dozens of eyes. Write your sigil on the lid. During or after all of this, say the following aloud or think it to yourself (change pronouns accordingly):

You cannot touch her. You cannot speak to her. Think of her and bring this curse upon you. May your tongue catch in your throat if you dare to reach her. May you burn and ache if you come near. May you feel eyes upon your back each time you think her name. They’re watching. I’m watching. May you forever question the gaze of others - Do they know the things you’ve done? I do. I curse you. I bind you. You cannot touch her.

Stash the jar in a dark place, like a closet or a cabinet (I don’t recommend burying jars). Let the candle burn until it extinguishes itself.
