hi. this is Foggy. Foggy passed away early on april 14 from parvo complications. working at a shelter (not the one she got parvo from) i was able to provide her with at-home supportive care. it wasn’t enough. she was 8 weeks old. to pay her emergency vet bills i took out a CareCredit loan of just under $1500. we opened a gofundme to help cover this if anyone is able. thank you.
at the time of posting we are only $200 short.

if i can impart any one piece of wisdom to y’all, it’s to, whenever possible, assume good intentions
assume people are trying their best, want to be good and treat others well, and that when their behavior doesn’t align with those goals, it’s because of outside factors that are pushing them to their limit
it’s hard to do, it doesn’t always come naturally, but it’s worth it
before anyone jumps in with an “op has clearly never worked in the service industry,” i work in a public facing library job
i have a patron who is mean as a snake. won’t respond when you greet her, barks orders at you, and is generally nasty
i couldn’t stand her & dreaded the moment she walked in the door, until i stopped one day & went “wow, to walk around feeling unhappy enough to treat people so horribly every day. what a difficult way to live.”
and so my tactics changed. i made a point to be extra kind & friendly to her. she changed her hair color one day & when i complimented her on it, she was very caught off guard & said “oh, thank you. my whole life i’ve thought i was ugly.”
now we’re at the point where she shows me pictures of watercolor paintings she made & says hi when she walks in the door. she’s not my favorite patron, but she’s perfectly okay. most unpleasant people aren’t inherently rotten, they’re just unhappy & coping with it poorly
assume people are always doing their best, even if their best happens to fall a bit short. assume good intentions
Hey so an insane new dinosaur got announced??
This is Haolong dongi, a new species of iguanodontian ornithopod found covered in what is basically,,, hedgehog quills??
The fossil is a stunningly preserved skeleton from China that includes evidence of hard armour scales on the tail (like in the much smaller Kulindadromeus), and a coat of spines along its neck and back! The name appropriately means "spiky dragon".
Not only is a spiny iguanodont wild on its own (this individual is over 2 metres long and is a juvenile, other ornithopods with quill-like structures are much smaller), these spines also appear to be an entirely new skin structure? They're apparently not feathers or scales, but a secret third thing.
The publication is available to read here!
inspired by a post i read yesterday which contained the beautiful the words "Hanya Yanagihara's The Long Game"......
pick an author and a title!
how's the book?
5 stars (a masterpiece)
4 stars (pretty good)
3 stars (meh)
2 stars (pretty bad)
1 star (awful awful awful. Awful)
too insane to even quantify. what the fuck
nuance/results
(no "idk" button! if you get a title or an author you don't know enough about to make a judgement, keep rolling until you do!)
If she dies remember this post. Remember your silence. I will never forgive anyone who saw my posts and kept scrolling.
My wife is dying right now in front of my eyes. This is not begging — her life is bleeding away with every passing second.
Two full days without any donations = a death sentence for her. The doctors said clearly without money, she will not survive. No medicine no treatment no second chance.
I sit beside her fragile body, counting her breaths instead of praying. My children — Alma, Lama, and Lina — may grow up without their mother if you do nothing.
Save my wife now. Donate immediately. This is not a request — this is the final plea before death.

why bother caring about the environment when 1. It’s so obviously a lost cause and 2. There’s definitely going to be a nuclear war?
And what are you doing about it Anon? Learn about ecological restoration or get out of my way.
If you read ecology books printed in the 70s and 80s, they were absolutely convinced that whales and tigers would not survive the century. There's a whole plot in Star Trek about how whales are extinct actually. Here in Argentina, we were sure that yaguaretés would have gone extinct. It was thought that rainforests would be forever lost, because there was no way that such complex ecosystems would be restored.
Now, you can go to Península Valdés and find that the whale population there is growing year after year, people can see them from their windows. In Iberá, where yaguaretés were extinct for over 70 years, there's now a population of 35 and growing, after being reintroduced just five years ago. As for rainforests?
We've becoming very, very good on restoring them. Natural environments, when given space and time to heal, can return to that they were. And after all, all natural enviroments are managed by human societies. It is up to us to implement a good management, un buen gobierno.
I firmly believe our children and grandchildren will see a restoration of Earth like never before.
Millions of people are working on this. You can learn about it, perhaps even become one of them. Or be a pointless doomer in my ask box. Your choice.
Can't believe we're here, but especially important for fandom accounts: DO NOT link your IRL, government ID to your fandom accounts! Not ever. Not for anything.
You will feel tempted by FOMO, you will feel bullied by Discord. You will be peer pressured to the ends of the earth. Do not do it. Do not allow them full access to you, and do not let them normalize this utter horseshit. We deserve anon spaces. We deserve the internet, it's ours.

Like this shit is TERRIFYING.
Cancel Nitro and tell them this is why. Shit talk these assholes in public. Ridicule them. And do not budge an inch, do not let them have you.
USAmericans are only upset because white citizens got killed. They'll go back to cheering the death of immigrants soon. Don't give them credit.
If we assume that Usamericans are completely incapable of popular struggle then we're just admitting defeat. If we do that we're no different from those assholes who think that every other country is a hive mind caricature. People protesting this is not only completely correct, it's also the first step for more people to realize the rot in the US system and struggle against it. Your attitude is completely defeatist and pointless.
I wanna believe them, but I'm not gonna until they at least publicly lynch a cop.
Few of them have shown they're capable of going above "peaceful protesting" time and time again. "The left never killed anyone" is not a fucking flex.
You think no efforts are worthwhile until they involve a murder???
Hundreds of thousands of people are delivering groceries to their neighbors who can't leave home safely, alerting their neighborhood to ICE presence with whistles to keep everyone safe, donating to legal funds to support people who are detained, keeping officers awake at night making noise outside their hotels to force the hotels to kick them out, educating each other on their rights, making sure no agents can come into their places of business, and none of this makes any difference to you because it doesn't involve killing someone?
You want us to lynch a cop? Do you understand that this whole situation is Trump baiting us into violence so he can justify sending in the military and postponing our elections?
You want us to take that bait? Are you a fucking fed? Or just an idiot?
Your murder fantasy <<< my neighbors' safety
“You guys are weak for not publicly lynching a cop” says guy who is also not lynching a cop. Sorry I, current resident of occupied city, am not taking advice from you, random disgruntled porn guy.
God that tweet sums it up so good, thank you for giving me these words for the situation

Reasons my family is leery of the photos folder on my phone...
I'm curious what the weirdest thing you've seen is.
(I'm working my way towards vet med. My family won't let me watch half of the videos I want to while they're eating)
For truly weird and not overly horrifying, it would be the little dog that came into the shelter while I worked there with a mammary mass that just... decided to try to leave the dog and take the nipple with it.

assume it doesn’t know you (unless it’s actually a specific animal you’ve met) and that it’s normal for its species and would do whatever was natural for it. including being too giant for and destroying the room it’s in. as well as dying immediately if its environment can’t support its life

I was feeling down so I drew my favourite scene from @jumalanpelko , because I binge read it the other day after months of trying to get to it and now I can't stop thinking about it.
I could go on all day but there's something about this story that is so beautiful and means so much to me even if it's heartbreaking because it doesn't romanticize the cult or treat it as some quirky edgy bit or sensationalize the horror elements. It feels insane to say that this story feels much more realistic than many other popular media revolving around cults because there was so much with the characters I could resonate with in a way that other media never has. I often avoid the topic in the media I consume because I'm bitter about the way cults are so often misunderstood and treated like a mere fictional trope, but then this short comic about cats absolutely nailed everything and I love it so much for that. This story brings me hope, not just for xenofiction comics but for proper representation of religious cult trauma, because this is what I want the world to have more of, and I truly hope this author never stops making art.
I know this drawing is kind of a spoiler but if you haven't read it already, please do it now!!
"We almost lost Casey."
Those were the first words out of my Dad's mouth when I greeted him at our usual Sunday family brunch.
On Thursday, Dad had to rush Casey (Leon's littermate) to the emergency vet with urinary distress, and the vet said it's a good thing he did, because without treatment Casey would not have survived the night.
He did survive though. We're all very grateful this fluffy little weirdo is still around.
The bad news is it cost Dad about $1200 to save Casey's life. My Dad is retired and disabled, and he and his partner live on what meager income they can scrape together between government benefits and what Dad can sell at craft sales. They did not have this money. Dad maxed out all his credit and overdraft. He has nothing left for groceries or bills.
Not to mention Casey's new very expensive prescription food.
Dad's birthday is next week. I think it would be real nice if, for his birthday, we could help him recoup this cost

The easiest way to help is to tip via Ko-fi. Every cent raised for Casey will go right to my Dad on Sunday Dec 14.
Please spread this around if you can. Please help my Dad afford keeping Casey around as long as possible, and keeping a roof over all their heads.
