Reading a book about the psychology of friendship (that, oh by the way, taps the ace and trans communities in its discussion not as clinical categories but by including anecdotes from people in those communities!!) and somehow it encouraged me to quadruple down on saying:
We literally do not have enough friendships. Our culture's obsession with romance over friendship is shockingly new (1850's on) and it is having a serious impact on our health across the board, specifically men. This problem has become sharply exacerbated in the last 20 years.
We need more friendships. We need more friendship in media. "But what if they kissed?" What if they didn't, and the love that was there mattered anyway??? Take my hand. Imagine this with me. A relationship unbound by law or expectation. People who choose one another again and again. To stay in each other's lives when there are no societal tethers holding them together.
Go read Platonic by Marisa G. Franco (PhD).
a bra and a hijab are the same thing in many ways
Hijab is not much different from many different hair coverings which used to be extremely common throughout the world. All of those had their own religious connections with them. Hair coverings were often a tool of both religion and "modesty", the loaded gendered concept. Nowadays it's most commonly associated with Islam therefore it strikes out as Abnormal. A bra too serves the same purpose, yet its considered the "acceptable" tool of Modesty with no loaded baggage whatsoever while Hijab is the "backwards" tool of modesty with Evil Baggage. The same concept, when it's Muslim racialized, is Backwards and Violent, yet the violence of the bra, because it is accepted among White people too, is acceptable and invisible
Can you imagine if tomorrow wearing a bra was seen as completely backwards, but nothing else changed socially for women, yet the new policy was to force women to take their bras off in public? What, that sounds like the wrong way to go about it to you because it would be humiliating and misogynistic? Now lets apply that humanity to other people's cultures
They should block chatgpt on uni WiFi the way they used to block coolmathgames
they should make chatgpt automatically redirect to coolmathgames so you can actually fucking learn something
when people say "practice doing nothing. doing nothing is healthier than doomscrolling" they're lying to you. no one ever does nothing. actually doing nothing is pretty bad. they mean going out for a walk, or knitting, or snacking on something, or chatting to someone, or people watching, or listening to birds sing, or colouring in one of those colouring templates, or watching the sunset and the clouds, or doing grounding exercises in their head. they're low energy activites, but they still require some amount of energy, or require being someplace or having something, or require having an interest in one of those specific activities. when those things aren't accessible to someone then of course scrolling social media is gonna be the easiest thing to do. and I'm not saying social media is better than those things, but for people who do have an unhealthy relationship with social media, they're not gonna fix that relationship by chasing after an idealised activity of "nothing", that's just penance and they're gonna bore themselves back to where they started. they gotta find out what other mindful activities they actually like, and figure out how to make those activities more readily accessible for themselves. which can be much easier said than done
it’s funny bc milk does actually come from a creature

Actually, no, I don't think that friendships dropping like flies in your late 20s and early 30s because no one has time for that between overwork and family obligations and marriage and kids and partners and the ritual of the time slayer is normal and ok. No I don't think deep conversations and spontaneous adventures being replaced with a tired coffee every six months is a normal part of growing up. I don't think that emotional intimacy and soul bonds disintegrating in the face of practical inconvenience is a fact of life. I think that means something is deeply deeply wrong with our society and I will never forgive it for the friends I've lost

I did not spend years of my life at university studying rome in classes that were over 50% women to let someone say "rome may be for the guys" on my post!!!
men aren't obsessed with Rome they're obsessed with being patriarchs who get to subjugate everyone around them. He doesn't care about Pliny the Elder, he's having wet dreams where he gets to be Caesar. It's unironically the new vegas thing, we're living in an age beyond on-the-nose satire. This was also mussolini's deal
im a fake fan of everything i like because i cant remember anything
What a lovely little post you have here! *Drinks up its wordjuice to add it to my lexicon like some form of Vernacula*
*Sinks my teeth into your vocabillaries*
Nothing beats the experience of seeing some true tumblr discourse float by and reading like two paragraphs into a post and suddenly realizing “oh wait. I don’t care” and scrolling right past
So this post was about a person I was following reblogging multiple essay-length callout posts about a trans woman who said that puppygirls were an oppressed minority as if that is a real problem that actually impacts anyone. Not ignoring “discourse” about, like, racism.
My dear plague doctor, i fear you've misread this. This person has "black" in her bio and the words have quotations so i think she was calling out this exact thing
Again, I know. I’m clarifying that this post is not an instance of a white person dismissing genuine discussions of racism as “discourse”, because I worry that it was vague enough that people might interpret it that way.
Oh my B i misread everyone's tone here rip
