Something about Will saying “You could not lie to someone with eyes that reminded you of your childhood” and the fact that the two people who shared his heart, Tessa and Jem, in the TID-era at least both had eyes that were some variant of grey. Tessa’s eyes being “the colour of grey mist blowing in from the sea in Wales”, and Jem with his “eyes like grey skies”, silver-grey because of the yin fen.

Like that’s so damn poetic what the hell.

you ever think about how ending of tid is so bitter-sweet because Jem is forced to take a step away from the two people he loves most and watch their lives on the sidelines. and how 130 years later he gets saved by someone who would have never existed if they all had not loved each other so so much, and could never have saved Jem if people hadn't loved him just as much. no adaptation will ever be able to capture this btw.

Will and Tessa have a son and name him James after the other half of both their hearts and he falls in love with Cordelia, Jem's cousin, and the main reason they ever know each other at all is because Will and Tessa loved Jem so much they refused to let go of his family, no matter how much Elias wished to hide away. and they have a son who has a son who has a son who has a son who is raised by someone who does not believe in love or parabatai and has drilled that into him for the first 9 years of his life. but then Valentine fakes his death and Jace sent to New York, his future parabatai is already there waiting for him and in cohf Jace said that the greatest thing Valentine ever did for him was send him to Alec, but it was Jem who was the very first person to tell him about the power of parabatai and of love, because even after all this time and pain he loved Will and Tessa so much. If it wasn't for Jem, he never would have accepted Alec's help and love like he did, but he did. and people love Jace Herondale so much they begged angels to save his life and they did, even if it was at the cost of the world and by doing so Jem was saved too. like. Jem loved Will and Tessa so much and they loved him and in the end it saved him. love saved them both.

Like if you really think about it, if Tessa never arrived in London and never had Will and Jem fall in love with (and the 3 of them loving each other as much as they do), almost none of the modern day cast of Shadowhunters would even exist.

I feel like Gideon and Sophie still could’ve met each other without Tessa being there, but they don’t have modern day descendants anyway.

And I think Charlotte and Henry could still have descendants, but in this timeline without Tessa I don’t know if they would still be the Fairchilds or if they would’ve been Branwells (can you imagine Jocelyn Branwell? Clary Branwell? lol 🥲)

artist notes: - ty's eyes are the same color as tessa's - lucie and livvy have the same hair color, while the rest of the brunette blackthorns have tessa’s hair - ash has sebastian’s coloring but clary/jocelyn’s features - alec, anna, and kit have the same blue eyes as will and cecily, but i actually picture kit's eyes to be lighter. i just draw too many blonde haired/blue eyed characters - the blackthorns were the most fun to draw :>

Just another reminder, because this always drives me crazy, but even if monetizing your fic was 100% unambiguously legal and protected, AO3 would still not let you do it because AO3 was founded and is supported by people like me who want a fandom community that is completely divested from making money off of fic.

Yes, this. Lots of fanworks on AO3 are unambiguously legal. Fics based on Shakespeare plays and fairy tales and Greek mythology and The Great Gatsby and your original character from your D&D game are not violations of copyright, because no copyright applies to those things.

AO3 still doesn’t let you monetize those things on the site, because we don’t want the site to be commercial! Because that’s not what it’s for!

It’s not there for you (generic you) to make money off the efforts of the people who build and maintain the site for free! We aren’t getting paid for the work we do to give you a nice site to use, just like you aren’t getting paid for the work you do to create whatever art you share there. Because fandom is supposed to be a community where we share with each other, and therefore we all benefit.

The deal is, we give you a free, stable, safe platform to host your works. In exchange, you get a site that isn’t covered in ads and tip jars and links to gofundme and “read the next chapter at my patreon”. You get one goddamn place on the internet that isn’t trying to make money off you. And we will defend that space and keep it non-commercial.

If you want to make money off your fics, you can instead post them somewhere like royal Road. “Oh, but Royal Road’s culture is so much more negative and stressful and lacks the supportive norms of AO3!” Yeah, because people are trying to make money there. Half the userbase is treating it as a storefront and hustling is the natural social consequence of that. AO3’s culture can only exist because it’s not commercial.
