opinion: I think more contemporary poets should practice writing formal and structured poetry. Not because it's inherently superior to non-structured poetry, mind you, but because one of the best exercises you can do for your creativity is see what kinds of things you can create when given a limitation.
hear me out. if theres anything i learned from my poetry classes (thank u dr hall), its that form has BAGGAGE. fitting a poem into a form is not arbitrary rhyme and meter and ‘limitation.’ it is adding an additional layer of context to be read through and holding up your work beside all of its kin of that same form. dont just write a sestina because they are notoriously difficult and will involve a lot of creativity and brain power, write a sestina to say something about cycles and repetition and the difficulty inherent in that kind of poem. dont just write a series of 5/7/5 stanzas and call them haikus, write haikus that contribute to and develop their associations with nature, if you’re writing it in english, that ALSO adds a layer of meaning to that form, explore that! and also making a form bend to the will of contemporary poetry says something very powerful about time and change and history, a traditional sonnet says something different from an american sonnet. loosening up or breaking a form adds (u guessed it) a layer of meaning. i could go on and on but u get the gist. and i agree w op!! go experiment with form! play! i just wanted to add my two cents and hopefully there is a form out there that will add an interesting layer of meaning for the poem u want to write <3
act three of 36 Questions really reaffirms jace as someone with lesbian moms. cuz wym u are pining for ur manipulative lying ass wife, so u rekindle a relationship w ur normal pilled ex gf from college, (who took ur virginity). then have a baby w her to only THEN discover u just married a version of urself and neither of u can handle conflict. soooo u go back to pining after ur first ex wife who was addicted to ragebaiting u. what could possibly be more lesbian.
he definitely fucks but there’s no way he fucks normal
I had to do it I'm sorry
