The Forgotten Children
Despite my feelings on the ending (which you can read here), Banana Fish still remains one of my top three favorite manga/anime stories of all time (along with Hunter x Hunter and Monster), thanks to its stunning cast of characters and thematic strength. One of the reasons my friend recommended Banana Fish to me in the first place is one of those themes that they knew resonates with me deeply: that of adults and society as a whole failing kids. It’s a tragic theme present in real life and in works of literature, from the Bible to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, to Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov to manga like the aforementioned Monster and anime like Mawaru Penguindrum.
Saying nothing of Dino, whom I actually don’t really need to talk about here and so won’t discuss (thank God) the entire story is rife with adults who left kids to fend for themselves, often with some pretty drastic consequences. Nadia directly states this to us in her conversation with Charlie:

Thanks Hamliet for always shining some light on the deeper meanings conveyed by fictional stories! Your analysis here made it much easier to stomach the gut wrenching ending + plus it was overall quite an inspirational read & absolutely raised my enjoyment of having experienced this story for the first time even more!

Banana Fish Opening
Summer = slice of life (/^▽^)/
Hiiii!! So, I had done something similar two years ago and I’m still the type that associates summer with slice of life animes or manga. :D
As it happens, I will probably not have the time to tackle anything this year because I’m super busy (…though I’m currently catching up with Barakamon the manga because I never did after watching the anime xD), but if anyone else is like me, please check the following list if you’re looking for recommendation fitting the Summer season!
((Being busy I also haven’t checked the newest anime season so much, but personally I’ll try to catch up with Gintama, SnK, Free! and Banana Fish)).
Anyway, let me know if you need more details/opinion about any of these series! I linked every title to a summary and I mainly rec everything from the top of the list to the three movies (the rest are series I watched but didn’t enjoy as much).

I hope everyone will enjoy their summer!! :D <3
