Wow. Three years with this show, I barely survived the finally, and itās been so worth it.
I want to start by saying that I have been so fricken emotional and confused prior to the finale, mostly feeling like my childhood is coming to an end once this show does. But Iām pleased with the end and the impact that Marco and Star have left on me, Star teaching me responsibility, Marco acceptance of others, and both of them teaching me the inevitability of love and that true love is unconditional, and that at some point we need to grow up (but not too much). Starting Star at 12 years-old I did not expect it to show such depth, just an insanely spastic girl and her safe (boy XP) friend, but it has shone a wonderful and sparkling spotlight on the beauty of diversity and love, and I feel like I have a perfectly valid reason to be crying over this masterpiece Daron has orchestrated. This show has put off my growing up but I feel like Star shows that itās okay to grow up, but itās also okay to be a teen sometimes while you still are one.
Iām going to miss Starās spunky and sparkly personality and her making me laugh at her silly comments and sassy remarks. Iām going to miss Marco being a jumpy goob and the constant strike of a karate pose from him. Iām going to miss Janna and her utter weirdness, which taught me that weird is okay, and Tom and all three of his eyes, showing me that it is okay to feel. These characters and so many more are all so fantastic and well-rounded and they will forever hold a very special place in my heart. Iām going to miss the rainbows, cupcakes, spiders with top hats, jelly beans, and warnicorns.
Iād like to thank Daron @daronnefcy for creating such a beautiful cartoon for me to rage, obsess, laugh, and cry over. I want to thank Adam and Eden for bringing Star and Marco to life and the amazing work they have done with them. Thank you to Brian H. Kim @brianwithanh for creating a musical setting for this show that made it so much more brilliant, and thank you to Ariel @hug-bees for being my inspiration throughout my time with this show, helping me to keep moving forward and pursuing and improving my art. Thank you everyone on the Star crew for making these last three years colorful, fun, and full of narwhals. So many narwhals.
And, of course, thank you, Star and Marco, for keeping me young for a little longer.
I let you go, I let you go
