The funniest thing the saw franchise ever did was giving jigsaw a bunch of dead wife flashbacks in saw 3 only to have the next movie reveal his wife wasn't even dead she just divorced his ass because he kept building torture traps

I just played Fear the Spotlight and I had a lot of fun. There's a few things in particular I want to talk about that the game did well, but it includes spoilers so it's under the cut:
I like how different the two characters play and how it reflects their personalities. Vivian is a clever nerd, so she uses tools and finds workarounds to solve her problems. Meanwhile Amy is an anti-authoritarian goth girl, so she has lockpicks and a hammer to cut through or break her problems.
I like that their health is represented by Viv's asthma and Amy's stress. The ghost isn't physically harming them - the false world isn't real - it's just terrorizing them until their own bodies betray them. They're literally getting scared to death, highly appropriate for a horror game.
I like how deeply creepy the villain is and also how believable the circumstances surrounding the fire are. Yeah, it entirely tracks that people in positions of authority would cave to pressure from above, and yeah, it tracks that they'd cover up a teacher being a creep toward a student when everyone involved is already dead, and of course nobody believed Chrissy, she was an unpopular girl with an enemy with a powerful mother who was being threatened by a man in 1991.
All of those things are good, and I could talk about more things I liked in general, but I want to talk about one specific moment that made me really scared, and then how the payoff worked.
At the start of Chapter One there's a filing cabinet where the bottom drawer is stuck and the narration mentions that you'd need a tool to open it. Then at the end of the chapter you return and aha, you have a screwdriver and can finally snoop! Then you get in and learn that the faculty engaged in this huge coverup and just as you're leaving Vivian gets caught.
In this moment of dread, Chapter Two starts. You're left with this terrible weight - what's going to happen to Viv? Are they going to try and silence her? - while Amy enters into her own slice of hell.
Then, at the end of it all, while you rescue Viv as Amy you remember: right, these are teenagers who snuck into a school after hours, the only real threat is that the parents will get called and they'll be grounded. Especially with Vivian, who is a star student and volunteers. This is, in the grand scheme of things, nothing to worry about.
We're scared at the end of Chapter One because we're still primed to be scared, but the nightmare is over. We got out of the false world; the ghost has been slain. It's back to the real world where teenagers who do dumb teenager things get scolded by teachers.
I just think it's really neat how we essentially trick ourselves into still being scared after the scary stuff is over and done with.
Clark Kent gaslighting Lois Lane into believing he’s not Superman.
You know that it's bad when people talk to you like your the tarnished from dark souls.
Eartha Kitt's career is just so iconic because there's no way you don't know her even if you don't know you know her. You like Christmas music ok well she's Santa Baby. You like Disney animated movie ok well she's Yzma. You like Disney Channel original movie ok well she's Madame Zeroni. You like comic book ok well she is Cat Woman. She won.
You like making the racist wife of a war mongering president cry on national television? She did that
By far the funniest thing in the entire manga to date
U can watch Star Wars so many times and it doesn’t prepare u for how dumb Star Wars is. For one thing I think we gloss over how kenobi (who has definitely been at the club. Please.) describes the mos eisley cantina as the worst most villainous place ever and then u get inside and it’s a pack of muppets vaping
the man who has witnessed a thousand bloody battles saying the airport bar is the worst place he’s been is based, actually
A good rule of thumb whenever a non-fiction author has "Dr." or "Phd" next to their name on the cover is to check if:
Their doctorate is real and from an accredited institution
Their doctorate is relevant to the subject matter of the book
Example 1:
Kent Hovind is not a doctor. He's a creationist conman. His "doctorate" comes from the unaccredited Christian diploma mill "Patriot University". The "propaganda in science textbooks" he's talking about is the theory of evolution.
Example 2:
Vivian King's Phd is in engineering science. She has no formal education in psychology, psychiatry, sociology, or any other field relevant to the subject matter of the book.
An author doesn't have to be an academic to have valuable insight and information to share. But if they are presenting themselves as an academic to seem more legit, but their credentials are fake or misleading, it's a big red flag.
ok i finally understand where gen z gays on tumblr are getting insane ideas like "marriage equality was a waste of time and only of interest to rich white cis gays who wanted respectability" and "bob iger is pro-gay". it was fucking james somerton this whole time. "american GIs joined the european front purely out of envy for nazi bodybuilding" <<<< actual thing he said seriously in a video. and people were just like "yup sounds good" ?????
i was going to just edit this into my tags because it was an afterthought but its important enough im going to make a whole reblog:
i had literally never heard of james somerton before this whole thing. he apparently has an audience primarily of young queers who, through no fault of their own!!!!!! do not have the life experience yet to immediately clock this as bullshit. somerton is NOT unusual. people make shit videos about everything, even subjects that are much more recent and much less important than the history of gay survival. PLEASE assume everything you hear from youtube essayists in nonsense until you double check it. i mean everything. "ultimate creepypasta iceberg explained"? 9/10 of that type of video is just. bullshit. made up.
PLEASE talk to older people. talk to people who are older than 40 and 50. the 20th century was not a long time ago, there are tens of thousands of people on this very website who were in their 20s, or older, on 9/11. ask them why marriage equality was important to the AIDS movement. ask them what their parents told them about the 1960s. ask them if "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was considered shockingly sexual and improprietous when it was released IN NINETEEN SIXTY-THREE (another somerton claim that is so insane i cant even start to explain how angry it makes me).
and even more recent, smaller, stupider stuff! we were there when Slenderman was posted on Something Awful the first time. we know the full name and twitter handle of the guy who invented Smiledog.jpg. we know what the first SCP was and where and when it was posted. we know what "based" means and its entire etymology. we were there. just ask. these people are LYING TO YOU, because theyre making tens of thousands of dollars telling you bullshit that can be disproven with one trip to wikipedia. i sort of get it but i sort of dont, because im not a piece of shit!
I love digging through queer media databases and comics so if you are interested: A bunch of videotaped interviews of elderly vancouver gays A public access archive of queer media (Again in Canada) Dykes to Watch Out For. I know it's already famous but if you did you didn't know about it know about it now. Technically a comic but still a pretty good window into where we were at in the 80s-90s Buster Wilde Weerwolf, which has werewolves in it so I don't think it's an accurate depiction of the 20th century queer nightlife but I'm throwing it in
Arthas in Lorderon's night club after coming back from Northerend, murdering his father and steam rolling through the city with his band of very dead men.

Ah yes, the first Spanish astronaut
Thank you so much for bringing the spanish joy of making fun of Carrero Blanco's death to a wider audience. Don't worry, he was a fascist, it's morally acceptable.
GO MY GERM 🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠
I had the idea to do a cell model cosplay beamed into my forebrain like visions from an angry god a few weeks ago and started working on this immediately. and good lord this was the most fun ive had on a project in a long time. like seriously it was so fun getting creative with these materials and thinking about fun ways to do all the organelles. while working on this i probably went "hehehehohohe" at least once an hour.
I think i'm going to name this guy Prota Z. Bacilli. If you look closely I do have every basic organelle that you'd expect from a cell model. (and thats a flu shot lol.)
also please appreciate this costume iteration because. i had to get my mail in this and freaked out my mailman.
