People are always getting the vegan health thing wrong and it's ridiculous.

A vegan diet is absolutely not healthier than a diet including meat and animal products. Having meat and milk and eggs in your diet is way healthier. The reason that the average vegan is healthier than the average omnivore is the opposite -- vegans have to pay much closer attention to their diets to get by well. A health-conscious omnivore is (barring niche dietary needs) healthier than a health conscious vegan; the difference is that a prerequisite to being a vegan is that you must become health conscious. They're healthier because the people who Just Eat Whatever are mostly filtered out.

Becoming vegan will NOT make you healthier; it's the opposite. You must learn to eat healthy in order to successfully become vegan. Becoming vegan to make you healthier because it seems easier than building a healthy diet just gives you malnutrition. Potato chips are vegan unless you fry them in animal fat.

I'm sorry to hear about your friends, I hope they're doing good now. People are always getting this shit backwards and hurting themselves.
