ffxiv is awesome because within the game's community it's widely known that there's an entire datacenter occupied by people with max level characters who don't know how to play the game and also taylor. and there's another entire datacenter occupied by people with max level characters who don't know what the game is about and also kessel

ive been doing roulettes on crystal since my criterion static is there. cross datacenter matchmaking is going to destroy these people. im playing paladin, a class i havent bothered to learn the exact rotation of because im not max lvl yet, and getting second on the damage chart in trials as tank. first in dungeons. im seeing mechanics i never knew about. im watching the same people get blasted out the ring four times in a row. mixing crystal and aether players is dumping baby seals into an orca tank. this is an arcane ritual. this is human sacrifice. rivers of roleplayer blood will stream from the altar to get dynamis queue times under 20 years

I don't want to add to any sort of discourse here, esp since its a video game and doesn't matter at all-- I've got characters across all NA data centers. I play and do roulettes on all of them. I've had fantastic parties in them all, and I've had ones that have made me want to pull my own teeth out because of the sheer stupidity of how people were playing. Have I noticed a trend on what data centers are better about things? Yes.

Are things as dire as people are dooming about here? Absolutely not.

Aether people are not gods at the game and the mechanics. I've honestly found them to be the worst due to them thinking that they are. Crystal is not all people that are sniffing glue and here for just the "Glam and Vibes". And I think its really funny that people think that considering some of the best glam is hidden behind some of the hardest content. Primal thinks they're Aether. They're not. The vibes are better, but that doesn't say much. There are plenty of nice people there, and hell I even started on Primal with my first character, so I know damn well how nice every one can be. Confirmation bias is a powerful thing. If you think everyone on a certain data center plays a certain way you're probably only going to ever remember things that prove your opinions right.

It's a video game. Things aren't that deep. Is it annoying in the moment when you get a bad group anywhere? Yes. But that's when you take a deep breath, shake it off, and go touch grass outside if the idea of a shared party finder or roulette scare you this bad.

People are people. You find "bad" (read: people who don't care about playing their class the best for whatever reason, or have some sort of reason why they can't.) players on every data center. I've found them on Odin over on the EU. You'll find good players everywhere. People who make the game look easy when going through savages and ultimates. People are people. Good and Bad. It's a video game, and honestly, some of the tags I'm seeing under this point makes me disappointed in how people say its a fantastic community (of which I usually agree) and yet turn around and shit on others in the same community.
