At some point I just neglected my inbox and focused on several things, only to end up putting off replying. I can't believe this and other messages have been there waiting for so many months. I need to improve my communication skills... or just be more consistent with posting on social media (I always seem to go on hiatus somewhere) ( ･ั﹏･ั)
I have a lot of thing to say about Jonsu (Khonsu), but since this is a webcomic project, I don't want to give too much information because it would spoil something that's still in development. The story itself is based on a pretty simple idea: a road trip. However, I suppose I can share some new things I've done and ''funfacts''.
This is Jonsu final design!ヾ(≧▽≦*)o I've already posted a few illustrations of the character in this style, and I've also shared a part of the design process, but I never made an official announcement. So yes, this is our beloved Jonsu in what gonna be them regular appearance
The mood board is huge and chaotic, but I promise it makes sense... at least to me. And I've also added some specific details that I've shared on other social media *cough Instagram and tiktok cough cough*
The base idea behind Jonsu character design is they needs be an entity that resembles a habitual traveler to journeying them does so austerely without lose that high rang they have for being a deity. Someone who travels so much and so often that they only needs the bare minimum to survive almost any situation they're gonna encounter. Especially considering Jonsu as a deity whose primary domain is night travels, theirs not going to exactly die for hunger or physical exhaustion, so for Jonsu, it's all advantages when it comes to travel around the world.
The initial ideas for Jonsu's appearance were varied, but I was primarily inspired by three things:
Jonsu's mummified appearance and that vague description of female/hermaphrodite version of the deity in the cosmology of Amun-Ra as the principal God in the myths. Kinda the reason I referd to my version of Khonsu with nuetral pronouns.
The Tuareg people and diferents nomads of the Sahara Desert. They was one of the much reasons I choose Jonsu's distinctive shade of blue and not the bright green or white usually associated with the God.
The ancient Nubian nation and people. While learning (thing I continue doing) the history of Egypt, and consequently, ancient religions, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Jonsu became a highly venerated deity outside of Egypt. This makes sense when you consider they was a God of Travelers. One of the many places where this deity was venerated was the north regions of Nubia, so I thought it would be more interesting to use this information for the final design.
About Jonsu's important relationships, first and most important are they parents and siblings. In my version, most of the Theban deities are sort type of family, though not all are blood relatives. They were "adopted/protected" by Mut and Amun-Amunet.
Montu and Tjeneyet are Jonsu's favorite siblings, though they would never admit it at loud.
Theirs second most beloved group consists of the gods who participate in Ma'at's judgment in the Duat: Thoth, Anubis, Ammit and Ma'at are they closest companions. The only exception in this group is Osiris (It's a somewhat tense situation between them, considering Jonsu was a cannibal god—it's not a secret, but not a public knowledge truth among gods and mortals—and Osiris is a victim of a similarly serious crime, missing a part of his body because something or someone consumed it. In a way, it's a matter of perspective, not active animosity)
Third would be Ra (current love interest/crush for an entire lifetime) and his daughters: Sekhmet, Hathor (ex-wife, I'll soon make a post explaining Hathor's marriages), Wadjet, Satis, Mefdet, Tefnut and Bast, with an honorable mention: Shu, Nut and Geb.
The family tree I'm putting together will give a broader explanation of how I'm constructing this version of the pantheon, since I don't want to use just one version of the mythology for this, nor do I want too large a cast. Most of the characters I design probably won't make it into the final story, but, well… this house is full people and I loving that (*≧︶≦))(￣▽￣* )ゞ
