I can't stop thinking about Rocky 🥹
i recently saw a tiktok where a woman asked "girlies: what are some things you do to be more whimsical? I love knowing cute little habbits"
and i've never loved a comment section more. some of my faves:
(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)
I talk to basically everything as if it's a person. I greet passing crows as my "cousins." I respond conversationally to my cats. I yell "same to you!" when inanimate objects make loud noises. I say good morning to plants. I thank my phone when an alarm goes off. When objects don't act the way I want them to I explain what I need them to do, or tell them they're being rude. I tell my car when we're stopping for gas.
I reassure credit card readers who are struggling that I know they are doing their best. Bless you, you funky lil machine, I'm sorry my dad is part of the reason people hate you. :(
If an object looks like it's about to roll away or fall over I'll put it in its place and then raise my index finger and one eyebrow at it like it's a naughty child or a cat about to push a glass of water over, like "Ah ah ah! Stay where you are!" I did this to my groceries last week and the checkout lady saw me and said "That was adorable."
Whenever my wife or I are leaving the house and the other one isn’t there we let our stuffed animals know which one is in charge. Ceri (the triceratops) and Stabitha (the blahaj) are well known as the most responsible. George (the five foot tall penguin) had never been in charge and we were a bit dubious, but we decided to leave him in charge once and the dog got something she should have and made a mess, so he hasn’t been in charge. Son of George (the three foot tall penguin) has and she is very responsible.
As said wife, when we leave together, sometimes we have a quick discussion about it, such as:
“Do you think he’s up to it?”
“Don’t worry, I told him to go to Ernest if he needs advice.”
Um. So. Hi. Gigi here.
I haven’t been here in a while. Like most of a decade. I have gotten fed up with most social media and more and more what I want is just tumblr.
Anyway, we’ll see if this sticks and I’m sorry if I don’t actually remember your handle for people I know irl.
Forget the friendzone, tell him he’s the son you’ve always wanted.
Queen Kristina of Sweden literally did this to her cousin Charles Gustav. He had been in love with her for over a decade and had proposed to her on numerous occasions. Under great political pressure to break up with her girlfriend, marry, stop talking to french philosophers, continue fighting a religious war in Germany, etc., she converted from Protestantism to Catholicism and abdicated to throne to her cousin by adopting him as her son. She then moved to rome to pursue her dreams of chilling with the pope, funding the arts, and dating more women.
Amazing
Linda Sarsour’s speech at the Women’s March On Washington [x]
White people sometimes need to realize that we can just be the angel’s wings. We can just be the wall that blocks the violence while the people who have been fighting this fight and know this war lead the way.
The women’s march was entirely non violent for a reason.
And we need to use that.
every gamer’s reaction upon finding a blood-covered room: well that’s not good
I am pretty sure that is not exclusive just to gamers.
Serpent d'Océan - Huang Yong Ping
A gigantic aluminum serpent was completed in 2012 by artist Huang Yong Ping. It lays along the shore of the Loire River near Nantes, France. It is nearly 425 feet and mirrors the curves of the Saint Nazaire bridge nearby.
Huang Yong Ping (Chinese: 黄永砯; born 1954) is a French contemporary artist and one of the most famous Chinese Avant-garde artists. Born in Xiamen, he was recognized as the most controversial and provocative artist of the Chinese art scene in the 1980s.[1]
Huang was one of the first artists to consider that art was a strategy.[1] He was a self-taught student educating himself under three well-known men. Joseph Beuys well known German artist and art theorist, John Cage an American music theorist and philosopher, and Marcel Duchamp a French artist that’s associated with Dadaist and Surrealist. He then graduated in 1982 from CAFA in Hangzhoue. In 1986 he formed Xiamen Dada. Huang Yong Ping has four periods associated with himself, anti-artistic affectation (fan jiaoshi zhuyi), anti-self-expression (fan ziwo biaoxian he xingshi zhuyi), anti-art (fan yishu), and anti-history (fanyishushi). In 1989 at the age of 35 Huang Yong Ping went to Paris for the Magiciens de la terre exhibit. He then ended up immigrating to France and living there ever since. Many of his pieces today are on a large scale, making them not auction-compatible.
Huang Yong Ping represented France at the 1999 Venice Biennale.

I’m gonna depress the hell out of all of you. ready? ok go
so, that “stop devaluing feminized work post”
nice idea and all
but the thing is, as soon as a decent number of women enter any field, it becomes “feminized,” and it becomes devalued.
as women enter a field in greater number, people become less willing to pay for it, the respect for it drops, and it’s seen as less of a big deal. it’s not about the job- it’s about the number of women in the job.
observe what happened with biology. it’s STEM, sure, but anyone in a male-dominated science will sneer at the idea of it being ‘for real,’ nevermind that everyone sure took it more seriously when it was a male dominated field. so has happened with scores of other areas; nursing comes to mind
so the thing is, it’s not the work or the job that has to be uplifted and seen as more respectable. it will never work out, until people start seeing women as respectable
but there’s a doozy and who the fuck knows if it’s ever happening in my life time
“observe what happened with biology. it’s STEM, sure, but anyone in a male-dominated science will sneer at the idea of it being ‘for real,’ nevermind that everyone sure took it more seriously when it was a male dominated field.”
Personal anecdote time! I’m in a biology graduate program. An acquaintance wanted to introduce some guy to me because his son was thinking about becoming an undergrad science major. When he found out I was in the biology department, he grinned and said, “Well, I guess that’s kind of related to science.”
I gave him what I hope was an icy look and said, “Isn’t it strange how men outside the field started saying that right around the time biology majors shifted from mostly male to mostly female?”
The guy got this look on his face like he was about to play the “just a joke” card, and then an older woman who had been standing nearby, talking to someone else, turned to me and said, “The same thing happened with real estate.” She went on to explain that, over the course of the career, the male-to-female ratio among real estate agents had dropped, and the pay and “prestige factor” of that job dropped along with it.
This is also famous for happening to teaching. Keep an eye on medicine over the next fifteen years and watch as it becomes less prestigious and less well-paid.
It also happened to secretarial/administrative work - in the 19th century, clerical work was utterly respectable and seen as requiring quite a lot of talent and skill (which it still does!) but then along came the typewriter and women entering the field and HEY PRESTO “she’s just some secretary”
at my university, chemical engineering, or chem eng, was often referred to as “fem eng” why? because it’s an exact 50/50 ratio of women to men, which clearly makes it too feminine. in the 70s/80s chemical engineering was one of the most important and hardest engineering fields (plastics! pulp and paper! OIL) but now that there are more women in the field it’s considered an easier field, in comparison to other fields.
for example, i once heard a girl in mech eng list some of the engineering fields in the order she thought was hardest to easiest. you know what it was? electrical, mechanical, chemical. it’s absolutely no surprise that this list is also a handy ordering of fewest women in the field to most women in the field.
AND, another point! this happens the other way around too. computer science related fields used to be dominated by women, which made it not very important (switchboard operators? yup). once men started taking over the field, well that’s when the big money and prestige came in.
The field of anthropology, which is becoming female dominated from what I can see, has been determined to be useless by some. (I’ve even had girls in STEM fields tell me I don’t study a “real science” so how’s about that internalized misogyny for ya) When I was majoring in anthropology, Gov. Rick Scott determined that Florida didn’t need any more anthropologists and wanted to reduce funding to programs and increase funding to STEM programs. While not considered a STEM field, anthropologists have contributed to the research behind STEM programs and provide a wide variety of services to Florida alone. A team of anthropologists created a powerpoint “This is Anthropology“ to talk about dozens of programs and services they contribute to in Florida which include healthcare programs, education programs, disaster relief, forensic investigation, environmental programs and conservation efforts, research for fortune 500 businesses, agricultural programs, immigration programs, programs and services for the elderly, etc. I’m also in the field of education, and we’re constantly made out to be overpaid (we’re not) and made out to be incapable of doing our jobs without very strict guidance.
It’s all very insulting, really. No matter what we study. No matter what we do to earn a living. It will never be good enough.
It isn’t limited to the US either. In my father’s home country, medicine is mainly pursued by women, and thus, being a doctor isn’t seen as prestigious or respectable.
I’ve had the same thoughts, especially in regards to bio and anthro.
Gee, I wonder if it’s a coincidence that I look around at the editors around me and see that 70%+ of them are women (even more in the younger cohort - I can’t think of a single male editor under 50 in my guild), and all of us younger folks are struggling to a) get work, and b) get paid for it.
About twenty years ago in New South Wales, there was a push by the librarians and archivists sub-group of the state public sector union to re-assess their award (ie. their grading and related pay scale in state government jobs). They wanted a 30% increase in pay, and part of their case for this was to compare the current pay rates for librarians and archivists - fields overwhelmingly dominated by women - with those for similarly specialised fields requiring a similar level of qualifications that were dominated by men. Geologists were one of the male-dominated groups used as a comparison, iirc.
Eventually, after a lot of hard work, they were successful in getting the award changed. Quite a few librarians and archivists got a significant pay rise - after the government agencies they worked for got round to re-assessing all of those positions to work out where they sat on the new set of gradings under the new award.
Of course, the government agencies hated the new pay scale, so over time a lot of those jobs were “reassessed” as not specifically librarian or archival roles and turned into clerical positions. Often, when this was done, professional qualifications were no longer listed as an essential requirement on the position description. They still did essentially the same work as before, but they were now on the clerical pay scale and paid less, plus their work was de-professionalised into the bargain.
One step forward, two steps back…

I threw up at a frat party and I was crying in the bathroom and a drunk girl went upstairs to get me a shirt and came back with a sweater and a kitten.
At the last party I went to three drunk girls fishtail braided my hair by committee

A drunk girl at a bar I was at became worried that I wasn’t getting enough nutrition and proceeded to hold peanuts to my lips and just keep saying “peanut peanut” until I would eat it. And after I allowed her to feed me a peanut she pet my hair and said “Thank you”.
