Me trying to hit w a girl who believes in astrology
There's a recurring online tendency to aestheticize consensus itself. The imagined future village is full of emotionally compatible people who enjoy communal gardening, conflict resolution circles, acoustic folk music, mutual aid potlucks, and repairing bicycles together at sunset. Which is nice for the people who genuinely enjoy that lifestyle. But plenty of humans are solitary, prickly, obsessive, urban, nocturnal, sensory-seeking, technologically attached, contrarian, novelty-seeking, private, or just plain difficult. Those people do not evaporate after the revolution. They do not get Left Behind while you are Raptured into the Utopia. They become your neighbors.

“the recording is of a blackbird in my garden in the north of scotland. the idea of the piece is that it's a letter home from a migrated bird, telling the family of its new life and making the connection between the migrant and the homeland.” - jennifer cantwell
I think one of the funniest abortion stances I've heard was from my parents neighbor. He's a like, hard-core libertarian viking larper guy who is very tall and very fat and very bald.
He believes a fetus is human with a soul, but also its "basically attacking the woman's body" so if she wants to get rid of it, that's "basically self-defense". He compared it to shooting a home invader. So he supports abortion not as healthcare, but as killing a baby in self-defense
Y'know I'm so glad someone reminded me of this. Because this was also discussed.
My stepmother did NOT like the way her Libertarian Viking Neighbor framed pregnancy as the fetus "attacking the woman". She incredulously told him this was extremely disrespectful to expectant mothers to portray pregnancy as so violent and negative.
Libertarian Viking Neighbor's response was that people consensually hurt each other all the time, and "there's like a whole community about that, with the acronym the one that starts with a B" And his reasoning was that if the mother was consenting to bring attacked by the baby, it in fact wasn't violent and negative because there was consent.
He brought up people consensually hurting each other, didn't go for one of the obvious answers like boxing or body mods or something, no he went STRAIGHT TO BDSM and he DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE ACRONYM
this is doing something to my brain like
i'm always thinking of "why is his smile so radiant"
Harsh, but I accept it I suppose.

“These are my red flags for women:
If she stabs me more than twice.
If she has a concerning amount of ex-husbands who died on their honeymoon, like... [a brief pause for thought] Like four or more.
If Gozer the Gozerian asks me to choose the form of the destructor and then one of my childhood crushes walks through New York City at 300 feet tall, uh, and steps on a church... [takes a breath and pauses for a second] I mean, it’s not the height! It’s not the height. I like a climb. But, like. [another breath] She stepped on a church. Or any building, really, ‘cause. [deep breath followed by a brief pause] Legally they’re not supposed to be able to ask you about that on like your homeowner’s association application, but- but they’ll ask. They’ll look it up.
If she doesn’t exist in the same physical timeline as I am... [several seconds long pause before continuing, sounding distraught] I’m not doing that again.”

I need to you all to know that the original caption for this is : “POV your friend mispronounces a word once and now it’s a national holiday.”

No you don't get it, I'm a Good Person. You don't understand. I'm a Good Person which makes it okay for me to think violently about the Enemy, who is Bad Person. I'm commenting "you should be violently murdered" because I'm Good Person and you're Bad Person. You think saying that to someone is fucked up?? You should be violently murdered, you're probably Bad Person anyway
A malevolent alien has placed a cat in a box along with a geiger counter and a vial of poison. If the geiger counter detects any radiation then it will break the vial of poison killing the cat. The entire human race has to guess whether the cat is alive or dead, everybody that correctly guesses is transported to an alien prison. Half of the people are in the Minimum Security wing where they live in technically adequate but pretty miserable conditions, and the other half is in the Omelas wing where they live in unimaginable luxury with everything they could ever want but one person in the Omelas wing must live a horrible existence constantly trying to footrace a tortoise that has a headstart, meaning that every time they catch up to the tortoise, the tortoise has moved forward meaning there is a infinitesimally smaller and smaller gap between the racer and the tortoise, now people in the Omelas wing can choose to transfer to the much worse Minimum Security wing so technically information can transfer but only in that one particular direction. The alien explains to the people that everybody in each wing has to vote to either trust or betray the people in the other wing. If both groups decide to trust each other then everyone will spend one year in the alien prison, if both groups choose to betray each other everybody will have to spend 2 years in the alien prison. however if one group chooses to betray the other while that group chooses to trust, the betrayers will get to go free immediately and the trusters will have to spend 3 years in the alien prison. Unbeknownst to the prisoners, 10% of the Minimum Security wing has been replaced with philosophical zombies, creatures that have the appearance of human being with subjective experiences but actually are hollow husks with no qualia and will vote entirely randomly when the time comes; as well as one prisoner in the Omelas wing has been replaced with a Utility Monster, a creature that receives much more utility from each unit of a resource that it consumes than anyone else does, and will do anything it can to remain in the Omelas wing. My question is: which of these two colors do you like more?
