Hear me out: Lyoko is a world of wish-fulfilment in many ways. A world of adventure, of otherworldly beauty, exciting terrain to explore. No hunger, no exhaustion, no sickness and the ability to stay physically well forever. A world where your body becomes something different, something else, something that (Jeremie hypothesises) is given shape by your subconscious desires.

That said... what if Aelita was a trans girl, and Hopper created Lyoko like that so she had a place where she could truly be herself for the first time? A body exactly as she wanted it with no dysphoria and none of the pain that entails.

Transformation has always felt like a trans-adjacent trope to me, the same way body horror is. That change of state from one form to another... on Lyoko, that transformation comes with freedom, creativity, power.

Just imagine Franz, designing an entire virtual world in such a way that his little girl could just be herself. Gives a whole new meaning to 'a world without danger'.
