Sorry if I frightened you mate, rock on! by Tomislav Jagnjic via ImaginaryBehemoths
simply dont monday
toni collette comparisons are good and i enjoy them but like. its one thing to call one of two gay dads the mom repeatedly with very little context for it in the source material besides general demeanor. although that in itself is already not great. but then itâs ANOTHER thing. entirely. to call one of two gay dads the mom repeatedly when the source material Explicitly. refers to the other dad. as the mom. and also stages them as such repeatedly. and because you know gender is an axis of power and the family is a site of gendered oppression itâs actually important. to the plot. and the themes. and arcs of the characters. and when the dad repeatedly being called the mom is in fact an abuser with total control over the autonomy of his husband and daughter who says himself that he has inherited his fathers temper and is referred to by his husband as their Father. like maybe thats for a reason maybe theres an interesting commentary being made here . perhaps. one might even say it is central to the show.
like the âno oneâs the woman theyâre both men theyâre gayâ argument while generally true ISNT even true in this case . the show is GOING OUT OF ITS WAY to navigate this very complex relationship between queerness monstrosity and domesticity . in which queerness and monstrosity (being turned into a vampire) means freedom but it also becomes a cage in the exact manner of a bourgeois heterosexual marriage thanks to their power disparity. bc for all their talk of being different than humans both of them want to live in a nice house and be married and they fall into the exact roles of the institution you would think they had escaped by being men and vampires. (FREEDOM AND CHASTITY IN ONE PERSON) and they trap their child in it as all children born into the patriarchal nuclear family and seen as the property of their parents are trapped into it only sheâs stuck in the child role forever bc she canât grow up. which is such a deeply compelling horror plot line !! and itâs deliberate ! iâm enthralled ! appreciate it !!
@knifeeater self made home/cage âŠim insaneâŠ.
love when the cast is as smart as the show
Bixâs interrogation, Paakâs off screen hanging, the mass execution of workers on level two, the euthanasia of Ulaf, the tortured and murdered unnamed rebel pilot and the horrific description of the Dizonite genocide.
This show has really proven that Star Wars can be extremely dark and adult without ever having to show graphic violence of any sort. Weâve seen suffering and sometimes even brutality in this franchise but Iâve never been so deeply haunted by anything in Star Wars before. So that was a first.
The Andor crew once again, raises the bar.
Sister Michael: An Icon DERRY GIRLS (2018 - 2022)
Hell, Iâd be hype for this even if it werenât a true story!
For people who donât know who the Chevalier St George was:
- he was the son of a french aristocrat and an enslaved Senegalese woman called Nanon
- he actually had a relationship with his mother, which was pretty usual for children in his situation. I havenât been able to establish whether she was later freed or not, but I think she was because she left a will, suggesting she owned property
- his father legally wasnât allowed to make him his heir because of racist laws at the time, but he acknoledged him as his son and gave him a rich personâs education and opportunities
- he was one of, if not the, greatest violinists of his generation, played first violin for the Paris opera and was violin teacher to the queen before the revolution
- he was in line to be composer and director of the opera but a famous dancer who was pissed off he didnât want a relationship with her started a petition to get his appointment blocked
- he knew Haydn and commissioned the Paris Symphonies from him
- Mozartâs father tried to make him go and see St George perform because he thought it would be good for his musical education but Mozart was (it is speculated) jealous of there being another young music prodigy, and refused to go
- he was ridiculously handsome . Look at this, my guy is pulling off a powdered wig, do you know how hard it is to look good in a powdered wig?!
ALT
- he was considered one of the greatest duelists and swordsmen in france
- he fought a duel with the Chevalier D'eon, who at the time was living as a woman (we have no idea if D'eon was afab or amab but they made their reputation as a man and then later switched to presenting as a woman)
- he wrote incredible concertos and unbelievably terrible operas. The longest any of his operaâs ever ran before being shut down was a couple of weeks. Some one lasted 1 night. He kept writing them.
- he joined the revolutionaries to otherthrow the king because they (falsely) promised to abolish slavery and emancipate all enslaved people
- he was a fantastically successful soldier and lead the first all black regiment in europe, which came to be known as the regiment st George in his honour
ALT
Heâs legitimately one of the most interesting figures in french history, and certainly one of the most romantic, and Iâm so glad he might finally be getting the recognition he deserves!

the idea that suffering (usually in silence) is a virtue has wreaked havoc on our culture, and capitalism has been all too happy to co-opt it. fuck the protestant work ethic, being in pain does not make me a better person, fuck you
