Because imagine. If they actually had started the show with Alicent marrying Viserys. And Rhaenyra was a baby and both Aegon and her grow up togheter, loved each deeply having a unique connection and they actually took a time like akotsk did with developing Duncan and Egg dynamic and flash out the Targaryens brothers.

And then have Daemon and Alicent taking they apart. And the misery they felt that having to go against each other actually bitter them. Imagine that Aegon final moment was carried with guilty, because his house was destroyed, he lost both of his sisters and his son. And he couldn't handle the pain anymore when realising that he was king. And he was alone?

They even could have the show end with Jaehera not let herself listen to Alicent madness and her marriage with Aegon being the ultimate cicle breaking.

something about "he's my last son" not meaning that Egg is Maekar's last-born son, but that he is the last one whom he hasn't lost. Maekar has lost Daeron to the dragon dreams and alcohol, he's lost Aerion to a cruelty that makes Maekar barely recognise him, and he's lost Aemon to the citadel and the order of the maesters.

Egg is the last son who is still his, the last one who remains with him.

one of my fav aspects of akotsk is the show's portrayal of the privileges of education & knowledge.

egg is not only smart, he is very educated. and that is a privilege that dunk simply does not have. access to education and knowledge help you navigate this world. dunk's lack of knowledge & education is very evident. knowledge is power. dunk needs to be informed by the high class and educated baelor and aegon about the rules and his rights, not because he is stupid, but because he does not have the privilege of education.

also in the convo between dunk & lyonel he says that he knows he is quick and strong, but lyonel had received training from the best teachers in the realm - questioning if he even has a chance.

akotsk brought me back. it's sooooo good! ira parker i wasn't aware of your game. the dialogue, the characters, the sets the customs. everything is just working and it really feels like got is back while also being original and unique.

i think what stood out the most to me is how FUN is show is. how ALIVE it feels. like you can tell even without watching the BTS that every single person involved in this project was having the time of their lives filming it. also, the show feels alive! i've talked a lot about how empty hotd felt (no ladies in waiting, empty castles etc.) this show is just so full of LIFE. ashford feels like an actual castle that people live in. also the songs & music really are so good

egg and dunk are amazing. we are 3 eps in and i am so invested in their dynamic. ep 3 finale "betrayal" scene felt more earned and emotional then the entire hotd show. the friendship between egg&dunk is just so ... wholesome and authentic. you can really feel the care they both have for each other. i can't help but to compare to hotd, where the lack of love and care (even between parents and children) is so evident. akotsk just feels so ... warm.

the targs are BACKKK. baelor the head of dragon PR and maekar bringing his flop sons to destroy their family's already shitty reputation. maekar being a hater, aerion being a lil shit, valarr with his streak of silver hair. it's perfect.

a scene of lyonel baratheon (who is amazing btw) gathering a bunch of lowborns to "heed his call for war" only to abandon them and return just in time to claim the victory ?? don't you just love it when the showrunners have actually read and understand the author's work ?

it's also so great to see the fandom just enjoying the show. everyone's having a great time. tbh i feel like hotd s2 kinda became a hate watch for me at some point, i prob will be watching s3 out of curiosity and give my takes, but considering grrm basically disowned the show & was willing to risk being sued to write a hate post about it after reading the s3 script i am not optimistic lmao. i think watching akotsk really made me reflect about the way i interacted with the fandom during s2. idk i feel like i just want to focus on stuff that i enjoy rather then the negativity. and so far i really enjoy akotsk.

the fact that some people in the fandom are "anti elia martell \ lyanna stark" is so baffling to me. Rhaegar Targaryen was a grown ass man with a wife and two kids. lyanna was a teenager, not to mention - a member of one of the most important houses in the 7k & betrothed to the heir of one of the most important houses in the 7k.

first of all, rhaegar had no fucking business hitting on a teenager. secondly, politically that was extremely dumb - even if he is a prince. he should've focused on taking care of his kids & be a decent husband to his wife. fuck this man. justice for my girls elia and lyanna this worthless piece of shit got both of them killed.

genuinely do think house hightower is cooler and more interesting than the targaryens, like dont get me wrong i like both but the hightowers take it. easily. their shadowy history of alchemy and necromancy, patronage of westeros' cultural and religious institutions, and big fuckass taller-than-the-wall lighthouse has bewitched me body and soul. dragons, blood magic, and a destabilising obsession with incest is all well and good - but institutional corruption and the delicate mastery of soft power? just too tasty. been on the wrong side of several wars and never lost a head or a penny from their main line because they know how to play the game. one of the richest houses in westeros and they know how to do it right ! funding the arts, sciences, faith. controlling the narrative. every message goes through the maesters, them and septas tutoring little lords and ladies, all roads lead to oldtown, and thats just how its done why would you even question it. how could you question it. and all the while the lord of the hightower sits up in the clouds in a tower built atop an unsettling ancient labyrinth of black stone, burning a flame that can be seen for miles, lighting the city every night. like good luck getting away with shit when theres no shadowy corners to hide in. the metaphor isnt subtle. every other house would wish they were the hightowers if they could conceptualise the higher plane this familys operating on.
