When you try to build a better bird feeder but you only succeed in building a smarter squirrel.
the funny thing about age gap discourse is that when you're actually an adult in the world you realize you really cannot look at someone and automatically guess their age, because people just look how they look and because a twenty year age difference actually means nothing in terms of interests and humor and and and. when i was 25 i had a coworker who was an 82 year old man and i had better chemistry with him than most people in my life. not that i was trying to fuck the guy but i was in love with him! and he was in love with me! and it was great!!! recently after knowing her for two full years i found out one of my good friends is in her 40s and i had no clue. you can, will, and should meet and have all kinds of meaningful relationships with people of all ages!!! it's called living!!!
Okay so I mostly cosign this, but nothing highlights the differences a five year age gap can cause like discussing musical taste with my wife.
Granted, my tastes were heavily influenced by two Gen-X uncles 11 years my senior, but every time I mention a band my wife has never heard of, I desiccate slightly more toward dust.
things ppl often get wrong in academia AUs (specifically ones in modern university settings with focus on graduate students & professors):
no one is spending enough time complaining about writing
hierarchy is wrong. your grad student TA is not a professor or faculty and might not even be considered an employee. that 32 year old man is not a full professor no matter how talented he is or how old you think 30+ is, and he should be talking more about "the tenure clock"
grad students only ever taking or TAing classes & never doing research or working on their thesis/dissertation. there are masters programs with no thesis component so i'm sure there are ones that have no research requirement, but you can't get a PhD only taking classes
everyone has too much money. but also if it's set in the US there's an obsession with accumulating student debt for positions that generally you would not have to take out loans for
relationship with academic advisor never sufficiently unhinged
not enough discussion of stats where it's obvious everyone only barely understands what's happening
"what is a sufficiently unhinged student-advisor relationship?"
link to the article
"I got so angry that ISIS was disrupting the research." -> Said on record to a journalist in the actual middle of an interview.
Yeah I think that's a sufficiently unhinged academic.
Wanting to save your grad student from pain and death? Not unhinged at all! Very hinged!
Wanting to do so because it was disrupting the research? Okay yeah, that is both unhinged and on-brand.
i love how sinners was basically like “the cunnilingus was there. it didnt change anything. it didnt save anyone. there were just too many forces against it. but it still matters that the cunnilingus was there”
The cunnilingus absolutely mattered! There were men in that movie who cared about women's pleasure, to the point to teaching younger men to ALSO care about women's pleasure and how to go about it. Such an underappreciated part of a fantastic movie!
Happy Pride

stickersheet for utena stamp rally at fanime! it'll also have a sand glitter effect...
Adolescence of Utena remains one of the prettiest animes ever made.
And Xena, ladies and gentlemen, is the lamb.
Accurate.
This is so
Unnecessary
how do you explain to someone that this is your sense of humour
“What could the audio possibly be?”
*unmutes*
“Oh,”
If I ever don’t laugh at this, assume I died.
This never gets old.
Carnivorous plants doin this is so funny to me
They don't wanna eat their pollinators :(
Literally teaching a college intro botany course right now and we JUST talked about this yesterday.
Pitcher plants and sundews (other carnivorous plants) do the same thing, because there's bugs for eating and there's bugs for mating, and you don't want to confuse those.
who let biologists play dnd
is germany okay
oh scheiße
This isn’t quite how I imagined the second coming of Christ.
What makes this funnier is that I’m pretty sure that’s at the station for cologne cathedral
It is and everytime I see that hole I think of this video
Remembered to check at the station today and report that
The structural stigmata are still there
Why are the 4 holes?? Maybe 5?
It’s his daily commute.
#it is written that twice did jesus stumble and twice did the cross strike nearby architecture #so really this is method acting
Unfortunately they repaired it recently
Es hängen jetzt sogar Schilder dort:
In Kölsch, Deutsch und Englisch 😂
Man, you would think a carpenter would've thought that through better.
there is no heterosexual explanation for this
You ever suddenly remember Sir Integra Wingate Hellsing existed and how much she was probably a very formative lesbian and sexual awakening but you were too stupid of a teenager in the denial closet to realize it?
Need to reread/rewatch soon.
Look, I'm not saying the Red Rose Vertigo episode was a formative experience for young not-yet-out Angry-Heard.
But I'm not saying it wasn't, either.
For those who have missed it, a tourist in Hawaii decided it would be fun to chuck a rock (a BIG rock) at a monk seal. He missed, but he was captured on video, and when told it was illegal to interfere with them, said "I'm rich, I can pay the fine."
Is the best part that he got doxxed? No.
Is the best part that he got tracked down by a local and beaten? No.
Arrested on state at federal charges, looking at up to 5 years and 50K? Nope.
The best part is the local city council's reaction.
And the best part of that is the look on the attorney's face.
I love that even city council is like "we're not fucking narcs, we have no idea who that guy beating the shit out of him is." Extremely hobbified behavior.
It's entirely appropriate to reward prosocial behavior!
Nice job, City Council.
Watched Suffs for the first time with @cortexiphankid47 and got thoroughly distracted by Inez's uh...assets in this tight little dark plum jacket. And then she died like five minutes later. :(
If you need me, I'll be in horny jail.
I feel like a lot of people engaging in torture are not treating their victims as if they could have blood borne pathogens 🤔
Is what my wife said apropo of nothing as we were silently drifting off to sleep
Uh oh
Is what she said when I immediately reached for my phone and opened Tumblr instead of responding
@everything-you-feel-is-real I know by tumblr tradition that I'm to say "impossible, my posts never blow up like that," or "please don't do this to me."
But I feel in my bones that you are right. If this is to be my wife's moment of glory, I am willing to suffer notification overload, that the world may know she is funny. #MyFunnyWife
Really, every torture chamber should probably be BSL-2 at a minimum. Remember everyone, safety regulations are written in bloo...oh, that's what you're going for? Well, still!
