I've tried to write my personal impression about Zhan Zhao Adventures, but it seems I can't come up with a good one. I don't know how to describe how much I love it!!!
I love the "siblings".
Zhan Zhao as the calm, cool, and mature oldest one (the one that shoulder all burdens). Bai Yutang as the hot-blooded, yapping, yet caring second child. And Huo Linglong as the sweet, cute, caring, and brave youngest one.
I love the brotherhood between Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang. ^3^
Although Bai Yutang said he wanted a fair match when Zhan Zhao healed from his injuries, but the rat really had a sincere caring for the cat. While Zhan Zhao seemed to have his soft spot for the hot-blooded rat.
Bai Yutang is really the mood. If he's not yapping, joking, or always being irritated, he'll be kicking doors and chair. XD
I love the way Bai Yutang shows his care for Zhan Zhao towards the end episodes. Usually, Bai Yutang would teased or jokingly mock Zhan Zhao, but after Zhan Zhao was badly poisoned, Bai Yutang tends to be softer toward the imperial cat.
"You have to stay alive. That's what natural order means to me." (episode 27).
"I studied medicine to save you, not to send you to your grave." (episode 37).
Linglong obviously likes Zhan Zhao, while he did seem to have some attention towards her, but I'm glad they didn't go that way. XD
I really like the way Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang really care for their young sister. Bai Yutang even asked if Linglong wanted to come to infiltrate Prince Xiangyang tower.
I love the action scenes!!! As if I forget to breathe watching it. *O*
"Is this really a series? They should make a movie!!!"
I'm so amazed with the action scenes, especially Yang Yang did it on his own. *O*
I love the story.
Although it can be confusing but never expected that it was all connected! Truly, 37 episodes isn't enough! Me want season 2!!!
I love the way that even though Zhan Zhao is the main character, but Bai Yutang and Linglong still shine on their own story. Both aren't dependable to Zhan Zhao to help them out, even Linglong was able to take care her own family's problem (although in the end Zhan Zhao still help her a bit). I also love it that Linglong has learned several martial moves from her two brothers which she has used to fight Shao Ji Zu.
I love the emotions.
I can understand Bai Yutang distrust for the justice, but I also admire Zhan Zhao toughness believing that they could bring justice to all the victims. But Zhan Zhao is still an ordinary human (with great martial arts and big heart), he can be so vulnerable and tired when the investigations seemed to meet dead end. The frustration just flowing out from Zhan Zhao's expression.
Yang Yang, you really did a great job as Zhan Zhao! *O*
From the start, Zhan Zhao was poisoned, got hit, got stabbed, injured, yet he's still the busiest one by going here and there to investigate. When Bai Yutang and Linglong having doubts towards each other, Zhan Zhao stays calm and continue his investigation that eventually clear things out.
Although I hated death on the good side, I think Ming Zhu Er ends did reasonable. I can't imagine him to keep on living with the guilt of accidentally killing his whole family.
This series isn't 100% perfect, but it's indeed 100% satisfying for me.
And ... I truly love HIM!!! T___T
"All along the way, Zhan Zhao put in so much effort to look out for everyone." (episode 37)
Yeah, that's Zhan Zhao. He always cares for others more than he cares for himself.
He's willing to be blame as the murderer of Ming Zhue Er's family rather than the kid to know the truth.
He doesn't care if he's dying as long as Bai Yutang's brother and Linglong's aunt get the justice they deserved.
He doesn't want to trouble Prince Hui and willing to go to the Emperor by himself.
He's just too awesome. T^T
Yang Yang really did a great job as Zhan Zhao. He can deliver the sides that I love so much from the 1993's Zhan Zhao. Every time I saw him on screen, I quietly said, "Yeah, that's Zhan Zhao. Yeah, Zhan Zhao would do that. Yeah, Zhan Zhao is definitely like that." Yang Yang's version really brings the good old memories from Kenny Ho's version. My first love~~~
Thank you, Yang Yang, for taking the role and become a perfect Zhan Zhao (for this era)!!!
I screamed out loud when I saw Yang Yang in Zhan Zhao's full red robe uniform. My childhood memories~~~
Nah, it's not about the song "In The End" by Linkin Park, even though I do love the song so so much!
I've come to realize that the things I thought so important for me, well, at the end of the day, it will be just like usual stuff. It's not that I don't cherished everything I had; I do cherish it all, I just feel calm when thinking that I actually don't have too deep connection with some things in my life, which I can easily let go, and it's refreshing to have a realization like that.
Iβll welcome the new Iron Triangle (Tiesanjiao)~~~
Also known as βWu Xieβs Private Notes".
This series is like a repetition from The Lost Tomb season 1 and half of season 2. The beginning of Wu Xieβs adventure, when he meets Pangzi and Xiaoge (and then the three of them formed βThe Iron Triangleβ), and the start of the confusing, never ending mysteries. What starts as a tomb adventure, change into finding Wu Xieβs third uncle, then into a deeper conspiracy about immortality. To be honest, as for now, I kind of forget the main story of this series, my only concern is about the Iron Triangle (XD).
The story flow in βTime Raidersβ is way more clear, neat, and more make sense than the story in season 1 and 2. Itβs also more enjoyable and tense. Itβs kind of strange to hear Pangzi keeps calling Wu Xie by βXiao Wuβ and not βMr Naiveβ. But this part was explained later at the final episode by Pangzi telling that Wu Xieβs name means innocence, but not naive. Itβs a reminder that Wu Xie shouldnβt easily trust people around him. I guess itβs also the beginning Pangzi would call Wu Xie by his nickname, βMr. Naiveβ.
Itβs also strange that Xiaoge called Wu Xieβs name several times. Not that I donβt like it, I love it so much. Thereβs tenderness and affection each time Xiaoge called Wu Xieβs name (β€).
I havenβt feel the affection between Wu Xie and Xiaoge in this new series. Thereβs still distance between them, although at some scenes, Xiaoge shows slight trust towards Wu Xie.
Pangzi is way more chatty (XD). He talked so much even in desperate situation. I was waiting for Xiaoge telling Pangzi to shut up (XD). And, just like in other series previously, for me, Pangzi is still the MVP. He is the most logical between Wu Xie and Xiaoge. He will always take care and protect his two friends. The one that cherish their bond so much as the Iron Triangle. I really like watching his connection with Wu Xie in this series.
There will be season 2 for this title. In the book, Wu Xie would continue his adventure with his childhood friend β without Pangzi and Xiaoge. In itβs predecessor for this story, Pangzi and Xiaoge were also there with Wu Xie, Iβd like to see whatβs the new series would give.
Until then, this is the new Iron Triangle β and probably the permanent cast (XD).
P.S.: every time I see this new Wu Xie, I always remember of Ying Lei (from Fangs of Fortunes. XD
Surely, only Zhu Yilong that can make me watched a movie with war theme.
"Dongji Rescue" is based on a real event of Chinese fisherman from Dongji Island who had rescued British prisoners of war during the sinking of Japanese cargo ship, the Lisbon Maru.
Zhu Yilong's character, Ah Bi, and also Wu Lei's character, Ah Dang is also based on real people, the fisherman from Dongji Island.
The movie is the typical of a war theme movie: many people died, including ... SPOILER BELOW ....
It's quite depressing watching this movie, especially watching the helplessness of the villagers against the cruelty of the Japanese army. There were only two Japanese soldier on the island, while there were more than 300 people in the village, so why do they so afraid to fight back?
Well, the story was way back when the Japanese army landed on the island and burned down the village ancestor hall. Since then, the villagers become so obedient, living quietly under the Japanese soldier instructions, including not to go out fishing to the sea. I assumed, if the villagers dare to fight back then the Japanese army would come in bulk and eliminated the whole village.
The two brothers, Ah Bi and Ah Dang, were said to be rescued by Old Wu, the elder in the village. The brothers had some kind of connection with the pirates that the villagers cut their connection with them, and they live separately at the tip of the island.
One day during free diving in the sea, they saw a ship was shot by a torpedo. Ah Dang found a survivor and rescue him. He was Thomas Newman. Ah Bi objected the action and wanted to let Thomas died, but Ah Dang insisted to save him. The brothers clash and was calmed down by the teacher of the village, Mr. Chen.
The Japanese army then come to the village in searched for Thomas. It was amazing that they would look for a single person missing from the ship (note there were more than 1.000 British POW on the ship). The Japanese army was so cruel that they killed some villagers including a little child and also Old Wu. They then took some hostages back to the ship along with Thomas who surrender in order to save the villagers from getting killed. Ah Dang voluntarily being a hostage, while Thomas objected him.
Back to the ship, Thomas was executed, while Ah Dang who was in despair seeing the execution was thrown inside one of the pits with so many British POW packed inside with the water slowly coming in after getting hit by a torpedo. When the water finally rushes in, Ah Dang jumped down to find a way out. Eventually he was almost drowned after getting hit by a debris and being trapped. Ah Bi came to his rescue. Ah Bi wanted to quickly escape but Ah Dang wanted to rescue the British POW trapped inside the pits. When the clash broken, Ah Dang chased the officer who execute Thomas and wanted a revenge. Ah Dang was shot several times, but he manages to kill the officer.
Devastated, Ah Bi took Ah Dang back to the island. After he mourned his dead brother, he throws Ah Dang's body to the sea and then seek revenge to the Japanese soldier on the island. After that, Ah Bi sets sail toward the Lisbon Maru to save the British POW.
(I still can't forget the sight of the British POW dead bodies flowing in the water when Ah Bi opens the pit door).
Before that, at the island, Mr. Chen was finally berserk and took a fight against the Japanese soldier, but then he was captured and burned alive ....
Finally, led by Ah Hua, the villagers rage and followed to rescue the British POW.
The rescue was so intense, with the Japanese army shooting the prisoners who was trying to escape. They also must avoid the wreck of the Lisbon Maru who slowly drowning and create a big whirlpool.
While badly wounded, Ah Bi tried to connect an anchor thrown by Ah Hua with the boat carrying the British POW survivor from being dragged towards the whirlpool. He succeeds but losing lots of blood and tired from the action, he slowly drowned.
To be honest, I was hoping that Ah Bi would survive, that Ah Dang's soul would push his older brother's body to the surface and Ah Hua would then rescue him, and they would live happily in the end.
But I got to admit that the end of these two brothers was truly lovely.
While drowning, Ah Bi was passed by Ah Dang swimming away (I thought it's a sign that Ah Bi would be alive). Then Ah Dang stopped, turned back, and smirk cutely towards Ah Bi. The two brothers then reunited, connecting their forehead together.
"They were born from the sea, and shall return to the sea."
The words perfectly pictured the two brothers.
Sigh ... I feel slightly empty after watching this movie. I kept holding my tears through several devastating scenes; the loss and the cruelty of the war, but I was also pleased seeing the two brothers. War and oppressor should never exist in the first place.
Side note, my "The Lost Tomb" heart was rejoice seeing Wu Xie (Zhu Yilong), Li Cu (Wu Lei), and Fatty (Chen Minghao) on the same screen.
"No matter how terrible the situation or the result may be, we could only change them by facing them head-on."
Lao Feng, Adventure Behind The Bronze Door, episode 30.
Hurray!!! After that damn ending from Fangs of Fortune, I can finally be happy again in watching Chinese drama.
Blossom was said as a "dark horse" and I fully agreed.
To be honest, I knew about this series from massive reviewers on Twitter. So, thank you for reviewing this series and caught my attention.
At first, I was very slowly watching, but after episode 5, I was hooked and binge watching the rest of the episodes. That episode 5 was so intense between Song Mo and Duo Zhao that wanting me to see more. Song Mo's double blade (and white hair) and Duo Zhao's intelligence were ... *chef kiss!*
The female and male lead are both strong and intelligent, yet there were times where they were vulnerable and needed help from each other. There's no misunderstanding between them, no love triangle, no suspicion, no wasted jealousy, no quarrel, it's just an healthy relationship! Even when Song Mo tried to hide that he was poisoned and only has a year to live,, it didn't take long for him to revealed it to Duo Zhao.
What I also like was Song Mo kept his promises to have an equal position with Duo Zhao in their household. When Duo Zhao was found to be pregnant, Song Mo kind of casually saying, "Giving birth is dangerous, and I'm destined to die young. If you don't want to keep the child, just tell me." And I was like, "Damn!!! Song Mo, you're THE MAN!!!"
Some said, Blossom has the same vibes as Love Like The Galaxy. A strong general and a clever young lady. and how they treated each other. Yeah, it's kind of the same, but I'm more liking the first one, just because there's no angst. Hahaha.
I think the whole story was about appreciation and the worth to be a family. How do you treat your family? Will you hurt your family for the sake of power, wealth, even for (another) love?
The Emperor has mistreated the Empress and made her disappointed and wanting to be in power herself. Her son, Prince Qing, also feel disappointed with how his mother was being treated, so they made plan to rebel and it caused several incidents to happened.
Duo Shiying (Duo Zhao's father) has betray the trust from his wife and have a relationship with her best friend. It's reasonable that Duo Zhao was angry and feel disappointed with him.
Song Mo's father was in love with another woman but things happened and then he was granted a marriage with Song Mo's mother and kept the grudge strong enough to made him killed her.
It's also about being an independent and strong woman and an understanding man to his wife. A woman that strong enough to be on her own without the need or beg for a man's attention. An understanding man that he not only love but also cherish and honor his wife equally. That's why Blossom is so enjoy to watch, even with the annoying supporting character.
The story for each characters were also wrapped in a very good and satisfying way. The problems were neatly solved one by one, with the main one was saved for the last battle. That way, it doesn't made me confused to remember the story. It was indeed neatly written. I also adore the friendship between Duo Zhao and her best friends. I thought Ansu would be the one who betray her because of her love for Song Han. Well, she might if Song Han didn't killed her younger brother.
Song Han was struggling for his position after he was revealed as the illegitimate son. Actually he isn't a bad person, he's a good young brother to Song Mo (perhaps a bit over shadowed). But after his true identity was revealed, he was confused and just get along with his father's plan to killed Song Mo's mother. That was his big mistake. He probably killed Ansu's younger brother so she won't be bother with the way she was being treated. He may be in love with her, but he did it in a wrong way. That's his second mistake.
One thing that kind of made me laugh was the way Sung Mo seemed always to be around Duo Zhao. I was thinking he's like a stalker or an obsessive lover. Hahaha. It's so cute to see Sung Mo, the cold and cruel general, being so lovey-dovey with his wife (and HIS SMILE!!!).
I truly have to apologize to Jianming though, because I thought he has betray Duoo Zhao and become her enemy and made me curses whenever he comes out. Hahaha.
The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Against All Odds (vol. 20).
I just need to make a post about this volume 20 story since it's really exciting, thrilling, and surprising! Battle has been won and secrets have been revealed! Secrets that I never thought of.
Here are some highlights from this volume.
Note: I really despise the character on the front cover.
Volume 20 started with the on going battle between Arslan's troops and Guiscard's at Atropatene. The situation gets worst with the arrival of Bodin. His stance was to defeat both Arslan and Guiscard. Arslan's troops was stucked since Bodin's men were coming from their back. Luckily Daryun was there to save the day.
Beware of chopping head ....
Well, if Daryun was there at the first war, then there will be no story of Arslan. XD
I laughed really hard at this scene. XD
A satisfying ending for Bodin. He was burned to death just like the way he has burned books at the capital. Narsus finally get his long time revenge on Bodin. Bravo!
Narsus was so surprised and delighted to see Elam has made a direct request. It's Elam's good progress.
Merlain: No way, I don't do orders, especially from royal blood ...
Arslan: Please? :)
Merlain: O ... okay ....
XD
Arslan: We were just passing by. :)
Me: With the whole team??? XD
It's not really a surprise to finally know that Arslan isn't the true child of Andragoras and Tahamenay. The secret has been revealed since early stories, although not that clearly. It's still sad, but in the other hand it was joyful since Arslan truly doesn't inherit the royal bad blood. It's understandable that his way of thinking and attitude towards other people (especially those with lower status than him) were so different with Andragoras.
But, what truly surprised me is this secret ....
Hilmes is Andragoras younger brother ....
I forget did I read the spoiler before ... but this revelation truly shocked me. Osores, Andragoras, and Hilmea are brothers. Hilmeas was born from the late king (Osores and Andragoras father) with Osores's wife ....
The royal blood was really fu*ked up. That's why I'm really happy Arslan didn't belong to that bloodline. And even after knowing this fact, his loyal aid still acknowledge him as their king.
After watching the first episode, I already knew how this story would end.
It would end with tears like a river.
I knew many will die, even the lead character. I knew. Even so, I keep on watching it, every single episode, not even skipped any scene nor fast forward it.
Because of one reason ....
HIM.
Neo Hou is so gorgeous as the great demon!! >.<
I really like his make up and styling in this series. He really look like a 34.000 years old demon. His aura, demeanor, and his voice, really really resembles an old and presumptuous and flippant demon. Neo really did a great job for this role! BRAVO!
The story pace was quite slow though. Not only the story, but the dialogue, the movement, were also slow. I really have to hold out the urge to press the FF button. XD
And, although it came from the same director as My Journey to You, but the action scene movement isn't as thrilling as the previous one. Also, somehow they work too hard to give the heart warming feeling and the slightly comedy at the early episodes. Everyone always shed tears, even from the first episode. It feels like a rehearsal for the sad ending. XD
Everyone is trying too hard to ease each other pain that it looked unnatural for me.
BUT!!!
I do love this family.
A family consist of demons, a goddess, an human, a young mountain god, and an half human-half god.
I wish they would be together till the end and on. Doing adventure and demon hunting together.
Then again, it's Chinese drama land. We often get different kind of ending than we wanted, even if it was adapted from a novel and has an happy ending. I really don't understand with this kind of "satisfaction" to have a sad end, rather than an happy ending where everyone would smile and be happy. XD
Zhao Yuanzhao (Neo Hou) was actually a pitiful character. He was responsible of killing Zhou Yichen's brother and father, he has also killed Wen Xiao's mentor, the previous baizu goddess, and he was the reason for the death of Ying Lei's grandfather, the previous mountain god. All that because he was the vassal of malicious energy, and he can't control it (also can't control his own conscious). He also break up his friendship with Li Lun, the tree demon, which he accidentally hurt in a fight to protect the human. I could say, Zhao Yuanzhou's entire life is fill with misunderstanding.
I remember reading a comment saying, "In the first episode, Zhao Yuanzhou wanted to die because of what he has done, and in the final episode, he died when he wanted to live."
Damn. That hurts. Especially with the scene when Zhao Yuanzhou had to slapped himself before he sacrifice himself. He wanted to live with his loved ones, with his friends, but he has to make the biggest sacrifice. The death he has been wishing for. :((
Someone also said that Zhao Yuanzhou was like a sun for Li Lun as the sunflower. Li Lun only look at his sun, Zhao Yuanzhou, but the sun is actually owned by the people. That's touching, and it makes sense. But I still think Li Lun is like a brat which his favorite person was taken away by some other interest. XD
The sadness kind of traumatized me, even though I still able to made jokes when I watched it till the last episode, like "One down." XD
The characters were kind of pitiful, and it's always the demon side who suffers the most.
I'm quite happy that this series still have "connections" with real world, like the love between Miss Qi and Ran Yi was touching. They only wanted to be together, but their differences got in the way. "Whether you are a human or a demon, you are both my path and destination." It's like saying "I love you" in Fangs of Fortune's way. X3
When A Heng fights to protect his unconscious sister, Zhen Mei said he can't save his sister, and A Heng said, "I can't ... but I must." He know he won't stand a chance against Zhen Mei, but he still has to fight to protect his sister. That's a real power.
When Wen Xiao was poisoned and likely dying, she said that she doesn't want to die, and she still has lot of things she wanted to do. This is a natural reactions when we know that we only have little time left to live. Wen Xiao doesn't pretend to be strong by saying kind words like it's a sacrifice that she gladly will do as the baize goddess. The same thing with Ying Lei when he's dying, he said that he's scared and he doesn't want to leave ... my heart really broken for him. Ying Lei is my second favorite because of his cheerful nature. :((
I really like they still put that natural reactions and emotions as a common human would felt. (Note, Ying Lei's words were an adlib by the actor. Superb!)
There were several unforgettable moments in this series, including the death scenes. But, there's one that engraved in my mind. That one moment when Li Lun confronted Zhao Yichen who was about to turned into a demon. At first Li Lun was being all above Yichen, then it was the opposite. Yichen succeed to put some conscious into the stunned Li Lun. Li Lun wanted Yichen to be depressed and become a demon like him, yet Yichen stay righteous just like Zhao Yuanzhou had said about him. Yichen even said he becomes to understand Zhao Yuanzhou, rather than to Li Lun. That's like a totally defeat for Li Lun.
And lastly, Zhao Yuanzhou words to Wen Xiao, that when he died, he will become the rain and comes down to stay by her side.
Zhao Yuanzhou, do you know, because of that words, every time the rain came down now, I always said, "Da Yao, it's raining." TwT
Oh, well ... for me, it's quite good series. Although I still dislike the end, and even the special episode didn't do any good ....
Just remember, that it's a dream, and when you wake up, everyone actually living a happy life together, just like in the ending scene dance. XD
Neo Hou really did a great job in portraying a thousand years old demon. X3
Personal Impression: Adventure Behind the Bronze Door (Tibetan Sea Flower).
I was caught with life when I had to skipped this series, and so I was late to watched it.
Please welcome, the newest of The Iron Triangle!
They look great! Welcome!!
I thought this series was after "Tomb of the Sea", since Wu Xie was quite old and wrecked. It reminds me of Wu Xie from "Reunion". XD
This one was actually before "Tomb of the Sea", before Xiao Ge enters the bronze door, replacing Wu Xie who was supposed to guard it. But, Xiao Ge couldn't let him, so he was the one who guard it instead. This made Wu Xie feels so bad.
While waiting for Xiao Ge returns, Wu Xie and Fatty were caught up in another adventure, a task that was assigned by Xiao Ge since he can't do it by himself (for guarding the bronze door for 10 years). In this adventure, Wu Xie and Fatty also found the truth about Xiao Ge's past life which he always seek his memories.
Xiao Ge's life was pitiful. He only wanted to know about his birth, about his mother, but he was forced to be the family leader if he wanted the answers. He has also to shoulder the curse of having memory lost, while the other family members were free from it. And it seemed, no one could understand him.
"You all Zhang family is so stupid," said Wu Xie to Zhang Haixing. He was right. The righteous family has been declined for generations and they were fighting against each other for mundane purposes. While in other hand, they "sacrificed" Xiao Ge for their own goods. To be honest I've lost my respect for this main family. XD
Maybe it's faith that Xiao Ge meets Wu Xie and Fatty. His brothers who always think about him, care for him, and will know if he's gone. That's why Xiao Ge willing to replaced Wu Xie to guard the bronze door, and that's also why Wu Xie willing to look and remembers Xiao Ge past so he could tell him when he lost his memory again.
They have a strong bond, and that bond that made Xiao Ge still remembers Wu Xie when he finally comes out after 10 years. And that strong bond that made me love them so much: both pingxie and the iron triangle.
I haven't read the novel version so I don't know if there's any differences with the series adaptation. The adaptation story was okayish to me. I can follow the story line quite well. The pace was also okay. The plot, the characters and the acting skill (I even like the biologist foreigner, Feng), the action scenes, and of course the comedy and bond between Wu Xie and Fatty. As always, Fatty is the last stand for taking care of Wu Xie when Xiao Ge wasn't around. If Xiao Ge was there, Fatty would still be responsible for the two of them. Fatty is such a "mama" for both Wu Xie and Xiao Ge. That's why for me, in whatever adaptations, Fatty is the real MVP. XD
Through this series, I can finally understand about some of the mysteries, especially about Xiao Ge's life: the truth about his life, his mother, and his burdens. Also, this is the starting point where Wu Xie finally changed not to be as naive as in his younger times. He's ready to be scheming in order to fight the Wang family in "Tomb of the Sea".
Episode 32 is a must watch episode! Wu Xie and Fatty came together to pick up Xiao Ge, and Xiao Ge said the famous line to Wu Xie, "You've grown old."
Now, there's still missing parts after Ultimate Note till Xiao Ge enters the bronze door. When this adaptations really comes out, it will definitely a tear jerking.
Until then, let's enjoy the peaceful life that the iron triangle could have (before they go to their next adventure).
