there's a family of local sandhill cranes that adopted an abandoned goose last summer and they're STILL together today even after migration.... i love them + they're local celebrities + nature is beautiful
one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.
Is there like a specific hate for the Habs in hockey spaces. Sometimes I notice that more seasoned Habs fans seem to talk about a bias against Montreal? Or is it a reasonable I love my team reaction?
there IS a specific hate for the habs, and it’s layered, and some people (the anglos) WILL gaslight you about it
some people hate the Habs because of original 6 rivalries, and that’s respectable, you know? (some) fans of the leafs and the bruins are allowed to hate the habs, even though they’re wrong, as long as they’re not weird about it. i suspect there are some folks who also dislike the habs on O6 (or O1 lol) grounds—as in, the Habs are so old and have so many championships that a newer fan of the sport might decide they’re the boring default option. that is also incorrect and feels silly to even type out, but i can see it happening.
when habs fans talk about the bias against Montreal, however, we’re not talking about leafs fans or bruins fans or newbies just feeling out the sport. and it’s difficult to explain fully without getting shut down in english speaking spaces, because it’s rooted in xenophobia about quebec. like, to truly understand why people are so fucking weird about the habs, you literally have to study a BUNCH of history of why people are so fucking weird about quebec, and you could get a degree in that.
the longer you’re a habs fan, the more insane you will feel. shit will happen, and you will say hello???? and the anglos will say hmm that happens to everybody though, and you will be looking at the version of the thing that happens to other teams and it will NOT be the same, and this will happen over and over again until at last you will think to yourself, oh my god, people are so fucking weird about the habs.
men's sports rpf is ethical because i'm making that man significantly more empathetic and emotionally intelligent, and with a much richer inner world. he should be thanking me, actually
the year is 2027. a new hockey romance book has taken off, people are calling it the next heated rivalry. a tv adaptation is in the works and twitter has doxxed the addresses of the cast members. hockey rpf tumblr is common knowledge and users have gone into hiding “we used to she/her trevor zegras on here”, says a lonely one note post on a deactivated blog. the panthers have won the stanley cup. the expansion draft happens and the sharks don’t protect white will smith. he goes to texas, “it’ll be a fresh start to make a name for myself”, he says, and various interpretations of this rips apart the willmackers. tocchet gets a five year head coaching extension by the flyers. the r/fuckjeffcarter subreddit mysteriously became private and has increased by fourteen members.
Malkin: 'Ovechkin shouldn't behave that way the next time'
Greg Wyshynski | Puck Daddy | January 15, 2009
Oleg Mezheritskiy, a SovSport reporter based in Pittsburgh, was there for an interview with Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin after last night's loss to the Washington Capitals, with the quotes appearing in tomorrow's edition.
It was a candid discussion, to say the least. Puck Daddy's Dmitry Chesnokov provides the translation of Malkin's interview, in which Malkin discusses the 6-3 loss, the infamous (and never-ending) Alexander Semin comments about Sidney Crosby and Malkin's icy relationship with former friend Alexander Ovechkin ... well, "former" at least 13 months away from being Olympic teammates, that is.
It begins with Malkin claiming the two have "a normal relationship."
Q. Normal? Then why are you trying to knock each other's heads off?
MALKIN: "Well, we had one moment. But why remember it? Everything is in the past already. He has his own life, I have my own."
In the first period you almost checked Ovechkin.
"It is a game moment. He attacked me and I attacked him. Don't think it's because of any personal dislike. And when he tried to hit me in the third period, Alex slowed down at the blue line to 'meet' me. I noticed it, lost my speed. And it created an offside, which was good for Washington."
Ovechkin advised you not to keep your head down when he is on the ice.
"And I never keep it down. A lot of defensemen can catch you. For example, Chara from Boston. If you keep your head down you can get such a concussion that won't be something minor."
But still, why does Ovechkin hit Malkin? Shed some light on this mystery that is two years old now.
"Because of Ushakov [Malkin's agent in Russia]. Perhaps, I am at fault that Ovechkin had a conflict with my agent." - Malkin said with a smile. (Note: This is in reference to a Sports-Express story about Ovechkin breaking the jaw of Malkin's agent.)
Is Alex upset that you leaked this story to the media?
"And what's there to be afraid of? The truth? If a person makes a mistake he should be ashamed. Perhaps, Ovechkin shouldn't behave that way the next time. And overall this is no mystery. If I had kept quiet the world would still have found out about it."
Do you even talk to Ovechkin?
"I haven't talked to him in two years."
How do you feel about Semin's words about Crosby?
"I heard that Semin's words were misinterpreted. He only said that he likes Kane from Chicago. Everyone has their own view of other players' game. This is his opinion. But I think that Crosby is the best in the NHL."
Was this media scandal discussed within the team?
"No one said anything. And Semin even called Sid. And said that these were not his words."
He called?
"Yes, Sid told me about it."
Are you tired of the fact that before every game between your teams some conflicts always take place, just like in boxing?
"Perhaps you, the media, are interested in it. We just play hockey. But still, when you hear unpleasant words addressed to you, then you become charged for the game."
Is there anything you want to say to Ovechkin?
"To show a good game and score important goals. That's it."
In 13 months you and Ovechkin together will play for team Russia in the Winter Olympics.
"You counted already? I hope that injuries will pass. It's every player's dream to participate in the Olympics. And Ovechkin... Maybe we'll be friends again by that time."
yeah that’s exactly what happened
the next bit is even better:

maybe a weird question but do u have any hockey books recommendations?? any at all that involve hockey somehow
not at all! but do you mean fiction or non-fiction. ironically the second one is easier--i'm reading some hockey romance recently but idc if i can recommend any of them lmao.
here's a few books i read/like/know of:
artificial ice: hockey, culture and commerce. it's a collection of essays around professional hockey. personally i don't really care about the economic side but the essays on canadian identity, gender and race are really, really good (personal favorites are "the game of whose lives?" and "racialization and hockey in canada")
the kid: a season with sidney crosby and the new nhl. HEAR ME OUT! aside from my sidcros obsession, i think this is a really good organic look on the culture of hockey (at least on the early 2000s) surrounding rookies and newcomers. i'm not exaggerating when i say he was being pummeled on the ice and this is what was happening very openly in public
we breed lions. on the culture of sexual violence in hockey. it's currently on my tbr but this one is always recommended (and with good reason). on the same note, you can read skating on thin ice which is available in its entirety on archive.org
also on archive.org are a few books from gare joyce who used to be a sports writer and has written both non-fic and fiction featuring hockey
also on my tbr is thrown off the ice by taylor fitzpatrick (romance) which comes highly recommended to me so i figure i might pass it along as well. people tell me she's the only mlm hockey writer who has a little thing to her so i want to finish reading my terrible books beforehand so i have the best experience lmao
So someone spotted bedsy on Iga Swiatek’s winning speech and sent me the link!
He’s sling free and looking good!😭❤️

A lot of people are ragging on the 'cable diverted to avoid Dobby's grave after Harry Potter fans raise a stink' thing and while I also love ragging on Harry Potter fans being weird, in this case it looks like the story was completely made up.
tl;dr: There's no evidence the interview that this was mentioned in even exists, no evidence the route of the cable has ever changed, and the whole story seems to originate from one dude's podcast.
The story also broke into mainstream via the Daily Mail, who are ... rarely if ever honest or accurate.
