How to start!

Make some coffee/ tea / snack.

Instead of spending hours procrastinating on your phone, watch a motivational video while you eat.

Tidy your study space, get rid of dishes, mugs and anything that isn´t study related. Leave your glass of water.

Go wash your face with cold water.

Check time.

Turn off your phone and computer. If your study material is there, turn the wifi off.

Study.

Take a short break. (Go to the toilet, refill your glass, stretch, open a window, listen to music, talk to someone, call your mom, etc)

Follow this sequence four times.

Take a long break. (Get another snack, watch a motivational video, go on a short walk, read a book, do some yoga, take a shower, go outside, doodle, post something on tumblr, take a nap or whatever you´d like to do. DO NOT WATCH A TV SHOW YOU ARE NOT GOING TO STOP AND YOU KNOW IT PUNK. Also, make it so that your break doesn´t last longer that 25 minutes, don´t waste precious time)

Go back, keep studying.

Today I had my first videocall with my study partner and the only thing we concluded was: Biochemistry is pretty complex

But it makes more sense studying it now that I’m in 5th year and have a better clinical eye ‘cause now I know where everything can be applied into.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able at all to stick to my schedule as much as I wanted and I’ll be finishing biochemistry (if everything goes well) this week, before starting my next semester and will have to catch up with my USMLE prep and the subjects and activities I’ll have this next 5 months.

In 2019 I had 19 exams, and I failed none.

At the beginning of med school I failed almost every other exam. Like just in my first exam period I failed 4 times and I didn't have nearly as many exams as I have now, and I didn't fair much better even in the next semesters.

So to anyone out there, struggling with med school and/or failing their first exams: You can do it. I could do it. It gets better, you get more experience with the passing of time and learn how to pass. Of course failure still happens from time to time (like I'm fairly sure I'm going to fail my next exam but that's in 2 days so next year, it doesn't count) and it's okay. But it really does get better.

Heart of Gold

A 3-year-old girl presented to the emergency department after she had ingested a metal pendant. She had not vomited and had no pain in her chest. A physical examination was unremarkable. A radiograph of the chest confirmed a heart-shaped foreign body in the proximal thoracic esophagus. Ingestions of foreign bodies are most commonly reported in children 1 to 3 years of age. Ingested items that warrant immediate endoscopic removal from the esophagus include sharp objects, button batteries, and foreign bodies that have been present for longer than 24 hours. Asymptomatic children who have ingested items that do not have potentially dangerous features may be observed without intervention to allow the foreign body to pass spontaneously. In this patient, the position of the foreign body appeared to be unchanged on repeat radiographs of the chest. The patient was taken to the operating room to undergo rigid endoscopy, and a gold heart-shaped pendant was removed (inset). Reinspection of the esophagus showed minor abrasions of the esophageal mucosa. After the procedure, the patient recovered well and was discharged home.
