What would you recommend for an exo terra 24” x 18” x 12” front open terrarium? I used to have a small snake in there. I was trying to decide whether to get something new or just sell the tank and save the money. Thanks!

The 12 inch height is really limiting. It is difficult to provide safe heating and UV lighting when you have less than a foot between the animal and the bulbs.

That said, I used to keep my pacman frog in a 36x18x12 and I did make it work. The bulbs had to be mounted externally (shining through the mesh lid) and I had to use a very weak UV bulb, but I was able to safely provide the thermal gradient he needs and the UV gradient he needs in that 12” height. A 24x18 would be a fine size for a male pacman frog, but I recommend at least a 36x18 for adult females.

If I were you though, I’d sell the tank unless you’re interested in putting invertebrates in there. Even adding 6 inches to the height to make an 18” height will make it a lot easier to provide safe heating and lighting for herps as well as give you more space to create varying usable heights within the enclosure.

Yeah if I could magically trade this in for another tank, I’d gladly get a 36x18x18! Much more versatile tanks. I will look into pac man frogs! I’m definitely leaning towards selling the tank though, since it’s really not the best size for anything. Thank you for your thorough feedback!

Sad news :(

Booth passed away two days ago. I’ve not posted bc I’m upset about it and don’t use this blog much anyways.

I buried him in a little potted plant with some decorations. He was only 5. He had a mass that I’d been trying to get checked out but…. Didn’t make it in time. If any of you have photos of your western hognoses to share I’d love to see them.

Question about heating an Animal Plastics T8 cage.....

how do you use heat tape? I was thinking of just ordering the heat tape from AP but I know nothing about using heat tape. Help? D:

It’s going to be a divided cage for two leopard geckos, so belly heat is important.

me, before touching a puppy: i like the predictability and maturity of adult dogs and am intimidated by the amount of structured work that has to go into preparing a puppy to be a well-adjusted adult, though i do see the appeal to raising a dog from an early age

This is amazing. Shopping at Lowe’s for sure. I would love to be greeted by a service dog. What a bonus. Just the sight of a dog in service is excellent. This is a PLUS.

Lowes is a great place to shop. They honour the vets with a discount, and now I see this. Good for Lowes!

I hate this story.

This is not Lowes doing a good thing. This is Lowes doing the bare minimum required by federal law and common decency.

Spreading this story perpetuates the idea that hiring the disabled is a nice thing to do–not the ONLY thing to do.

I’ve personally lost jobs because the company thought my service dog was optional, a nice bonus if they wanted. She’s not.

If I am the most qualified person for the job hiring me is not nice. It is not doing me a favor. You don’t get browine points or a pat on the back. It is just what you do.

every say around sunset a really intense beam of sunlight enters his tank. the pros are i can (attempt to) get good photos that really show off the red and blue in his fins. the cons are i am constantly scrubbing algae off of everything.
