I think there's sometimes a bit of a misconception in TOS spaces that a Vulcan's options during pon farr are fuck, kill, or die, but like. correct me if I'm wholly misremembering things, but that's not. actually true. Killing isn't supposed to end pon farr (in TOS canon, at least - idk if they retcon this in later treks). In the event of Spock killing Kirk, what was expected to happen was that Spock would then take T'Pring as his wife and then that would end his pon farr. It was a shock that he could just reject T'Pring! She was expecting that, in the event that Spock won, he would still be forced to take her as a wife - but instead Kirk's death just somehow snapped him out of his fever. And that's why amok time is gay. It's not just because they were rolling around in the sand! It's because the fact that Spock's pon farr ended after Kirk "died" implies either:
a) he came a little (which is gay)
or
b) he was so devastated at the thought that he killed his captain that it broke through the supposedly-unbreakable blood fever (which is really gay)

The Klingon text reads "beylana", which is how you spell her name in tlhIngan Hol.

Happy Pride Month
It's really kind of funny that an episode that was meant to be a very deeply-coded allegory about being gay is now just kind of obviously about being trans. Accidental ally Rick Berman

Cosplayers at a Star Trek Convention, 1976
in this house we have endless respect for cosplayers from the days before VCRs.
You couldn’t just rewatch the episode to look at all the details of the costume. You got lucky with press photos showing up in magazines or you just watched the episode/movie while sketching furiously
thinking about that one woman who made a Star Wars flight suit in 1977 entirely from trading cards and sketching details in the theater. or stories I’ve heard about old school Trek cosplayers getting the bizarre seam placements right by photocopying magazines onto overhead transparencies and projecting them onto butcher paper.
I’m a semi old school cosplayer (started in 2001) so some of the old school techniques are still things I learned on (I’ve sketched from stuttering VHS tapes on pause and used the overhead transparency trick)… what we have access to now for costume recreation blows what they had out of the water just in terms of reference material, let alone specialty costume supplies like thermoplastics and cosplay wigs.
That Star Wars fan who made the flight suit from trading cards and movie sketches is TJ Burnside and she is still with us. In fact, I am adding to her Fanlore page with info about the flight suit (and how it went viral on Twitter and Redditt a few years back). Fanlore.org, is a fan run fandom history wiki. Stay tuned.
Her (sadly) barebones Fanlore page is here: https://fanlore.org/wiki/T.J._Burnside
If im ever having a breakdown, guaranteed Garak is having a worse one. My prettiest war criminal. My beautiful queen. My perfect meow meow.
This is one of my favorite characters to identify when asked about what I mean when I say DS9 had the Dream Team of writers. Because as the original poster pointed out, he was a certified War Criminal. But the writers made his journey so compelling that at some point you realize, "wait when did I forgive him personally and accept he is trying to be a good man?" You don't even realize you've grown attached to Garak until you're already rooting for him to prove himself. A good writer knows how to guide you to the epiphany they are aiming for without strong arming you to the conclusion.
when you learn that he was raised from birth to do War Crimes, by the War Crimer in Chief of the Elite War Crimes Division of Planet War Crimes, and still somehow managed to get exiled for Not Criming Hard Enough and Not Enjoying It, he becomes pretty damn forgivable
Got absolutely slammed online once for saying Garak is war crimey. Evidence was demanded. I said what about the two attempted genocides. Response was that he wasn’t successful - now I’m not a lawyer but I don’t think would stand up in court, mind you I’m not saying he wouldn’t try his luck with that defence. I love our boy like the best of us but really.
ETA: Technically I guess the Cardassian Union and the Dominion aren’t at war either time, so I’d’ve taken that as a comeback and finessed my argument accordingly, but there’s still also the two attempted genocides to take into consideration, m’lud.
I JUST bought a secondhand copy of uhura's song right
And THEESE ARE GENUINE TABS THAT WERE IN THERE WHEN I GOT IT.
I want to again state I DID NOT DO THIS. the question is.... which one of you did...
