ANTHONY MACKIE as SAM WILSON CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER 2014, dir. Anthony & Joe Russo
"Learn the fundamentals first" seems like really sound universal advice, and as a former classical musician, I can vouch for it. You will have a more solid foundation for increasing complexity if you put in the time to study in a structured way. If you don't, you'll have a lot of shit to fix later.
As a former music teacher, I can also say that "learn the fundamentals first" is the death knell for a vast percentage of beginners, especially adult learners.
I've run into this with drawing several times, where some well-meaning artist has lectured me on needing to study anatomy properly or not use shortcuts like CSP brushes. And oh, believe me, I know. I know exactly how to learn an artistic discipline in a structured way. I just...don't want to!
The thing is, I'm not aiming to be a professional artist. I want to draw my gay little anime guys. I would undoubtedly improve at art much faster if I approached every gay little anime guy drawing as a study exercise. But I would also have quit drawing a decade ago if I couldn't just let myself enjoy drawing imperfect fucked-up little guys with whatever shortcuts I needed to body myself across the finish line.
With my adult piano students, my approach was always "What's your goal?" If their goal was to learn exactly one Elton John songbook to play at parties, then...that's what we did. We'd put tape on the keys to label the notes, and just fuckin go for it. Learning exactly one Elton John songbook is a good and noble musical goal, full stop.
Some of my students needed and enjoyed a more structured approach to learning; if they wanted to be able to play classical music, then yes, scales were going to have to enter the equation at some point. And yet others would learn the Elton John songbook, catch their white whale, and realize they wanted to explore more of the ocean. The scales were still there for them to learn!
Often the choice isn't between "learn art well" and "learn art imperfectly" - the choice is between "learn art imperfectly" and "don't do art at all." To which I say, learn imperfectly! Or, what the hell, don't 'learn' art. Just do, and enjoy the doing of it.
You have official permission from your local pretentious classical music snob: fuck the fundamentals. You can always unfuck them later (but only if you want to).
did you see they made jane prentiss from the magnus archives real
this is the correct way to feel about having a wasp's nest in your house.
oh fuck you were not kidding
#Two months on‚ Rothney is in a co-working arrangement with the nest‚#which is now more than a metre tall and swallows an entire bookshelf of ring binders.#owns. of course they feel safe around her bc she is a queen
Carnivorous species understand the value of reading and assessing the intentions of others; identifying threats is all the more important when winning fights is how they get food (and a moderate injury means never hunting again). This is especially true for eusocial species who live in packs, colonies, or hives (where minimizing, mitigating, and reducing conflict is just as important as winning it), and so it’s no surprise that they found a peaceful coexistence with a fearless human whose presence might actually scare off real threats.
Android bodies as a vehicle for erotic body horror is well and good, but I think android bodies as a vehicle for erotic comedy is an underexplored genre. Picture a story about a robot with realistic cyborg genitals misreading their pressure gauge and overfilling their synthetic spooge reservoir, then later they're getting a handjob from their partner and the resulting pressure differential blows their penile coupling and sends their entire dick shooting off like a bottle rocket, out the window and into the apartment across the street. The rest of the narrative concerns their increasingly slapstick efforts to locate and recover their errant member (which is, of course, still transmitting full sensory data via wireless connection – this is porn, after all).
it should be a point and click adventure accompanied by the silliest cartoon sound effects possible filled with interactable visual gags like an nsfw version of a humongous entertainment game.
Refilling the player character's spooge reservoir is the tutorial puzzle. It's actually possible to solve it "correctly" and avoid the overpressure issue, albeit only by using information the player cannot legitimately possess at that point in the game; if you actually do so, the plot's inciting incident is avoided, followed shortly by a non-standard game over in which the player character and their partner are randomly crushed by a deorbiting satellite which lands on their apartment.
(The apartment is also destroyed by a falling satellite in the intended plot sequence, but nobody dies because you're out chasing after your dick when it hits.)
Little Sierra death window opens up:
"Now, how did you know to do that?"
There's a recurring device whereby the player character obtains and installs firmware* upgrades which allow improved integration with their errant penis.
The first one enables receiving audiovisual** as well as tactile data, allowing the player character to spy on their dick's current location and gain information that's necessary to solve puzzles.
The second upgrade enables sending as well as receiving data, allowing the player character to speak*** through their dick, engaging whatever NPC currently has it (or is simply nearby) in dialogue and possibly asking them to perform tasks.
The third and final upgrade, obtained only in the game's final area, enables full remote control, and also inexplicably causes the dick to sprout tiny little legs.**** This allows the player to switch back and forth between controlling the player character and controlling their dick, engaging in coordinated puzzle-solving, entering otherwise inaccessible areas, and, ah, interfacing with other computer systems.
(All of this is, of course, necessary because in the process of attempting to retrieve their penis the player character has accidentally uncovered a bizarre, world-threatening corporate plot, as one does.)
* ahem
** don't ask why it has a camera
*** don't ask why it has a speaker, either
**** see above
i would buy this game
A lot of my vegetarian friends don’t get why I still eat meat even though I mostly eat vegetarian with just occasional meat when left to my own devices and at the end of the day it’s because I just don’t have the same moral issues involved with killing animals that they do.
Yes I love animals. I don’t love them because they’re cute and I feel bad for killing them though. I love them as part of the broader ecosystem. I respect them. Probably more than they respect me, because at the end of the day I know that a chicken wouldn’t hesitate to eat me if it had the means and I don’t see why I shouldn’t strike first.
I’m just not ashamed of being an omnivore. Yes this chicken was once an individual. Thank you chicken for your sacrifice. You were delicious and gave me some very necessary B vitamins.
A lot of the vegetarians that I know are vegetarian in a “feel bad if they step on a cockroach” kind of way.
The difference between me and them is that I recognize myself as an animal defending its territory. Cockroaches spread disease into your food storage. Therefore, they are a home security threat and I shall act as a proper ape should when faced with this kind of threat and stomp on it without remorse.
Many people see differently to me about these things. I know because I am friends with some of them. And yet I am called upon when necessary so the cockroach blood may not be on their hands but instead is on mine.
Being the designated bug stomper and snake catcher in most groups you’re in can kind of give you a perspective sometimes on your existance as an animal. What am I but an ape throwing a snake out of my tree? An ape that has the ability to make chicken nuggets.
I really resonate with this as a Zen Buddhist - a lot of zen Buddhists are vegetarians, but I’m not. Partially because I’m iron deficient and would not be able to live my life comfortably of functionally, but also partially because I do not believe that being a vegetarian is a morally superior position!
Suicide ideation is so weird. Making a lovely apple pie while thinking of bleeding out in the tub.
You’re not depressed. You just need $250,000 in your bank account.
Reblog to materialize $250,000 in prev's bank account
WTF this is masterful, 10/10.
Other people have said this in notes, but the Bulwer-Lytton contest involves writing the most absurd opener you can think of and submitting it to the contest. It's not a judgment like the Razzies or the bad sex in books award or something; it's a game. Diana Murtaugh of Baltimore is to be congratulated for this win.
I bet raising your arm and summoning a weapon for you to grasp feels good as fuck
tiktok that is good
what annoys me about explaining evolution to people who don’t think it’s real is that everyone’s idea of how it works seems to be from this
Whereas the reality is far more like
Was not expecting this many of you to resonate with Millennium Death Plinko
Just wait until they break out the limbo pole.
real talk tho ive seen ppl talk abt how long hair on men isn't intrinsically feminine & assuming so is racist can we get the same convo going for Black women w short hair can we start talking abt how short hair isn't intrinsically masculine or is that a step too far
The term "book of the dead" doesnt really give you perspective to how big a lot of Egyptian funerary texts are.
Imhoteps book of the Dead is 64 feet long.
Okay, but a lot of books would be that long if you laid the pages out
the average printed page is 6 inches wide. so if a book is 128 pages, its 64 ft long. I dont think I own a book with fewer than 128 pages.
It's honestly not that impressive at all. Fuck Imhotep and his pathetic short book.
the five trauma reactions: fight, flight, freeze, fawn, and mating
