Chapter One: The Reaping

Since I got into Toni’s farm, I’ve called it that way, though he insisted on calling it a slaughterhouse.
I wish I could remember how my life was when my mother was alive, so I’d have something to compare my current life with, but truth is I only remember her face, and it’s just a blurry memory. I grab the big knife and crack my neck and back bones. As nice as it could seem to sleep over bundles of hay, it really messes with your spine.
