Unpopular opinion? Martha Jones is 100x better than Rose Tyler as the doctors companion. I’m not saying love interest, but companion.

Examples: Leader. In the very first episode no one had to calm her down about being on the moon. She had her shit together and tried figuring things out on her own.

Smart. In the same episode she is able to keep up with the doctors plans and help execute them even when he is unavailable to consult. Plus, she thinks on her feet, often coming up with her own solutions to problems while the doctor is busy.

Brave AF. If someone is in harm’s way, even the doctor-the savior of human kind- she is there to protect ALL OF THEM. As shown in the episode with Lazarus as well as on several other occasions in almost every episode.

Resilient. For two months she lives in a time period where she is considered lesser and harassed daily because of her skin color, has to watch the man she loves fall in love with another woman and never says a word, and does demeaning work daily. Again, all because she knows how much danger the scarecrow people will cause.

Confident. Maybe not in the love department, but when the doctor offers to take her for “one more trip” she rejects him because she wants to be his partner or nothing at all. Also, in the episodes with the scarecrow family, she stands up for herself on several occasions despite knowing she could be punished.

All of this while being effectively ignored and looked over. She is his rebound companion and knows it full well, but that doesnt stop her from being utterly brilliant. But never really recognized for her brilliance, unwavering loyalty or ingenuity.

the misogyny speech

my favourite thing ever in the history of this universe is the misogyny speech. i love it. i love it so much. 

for those who don’t know what the misogyny speech is: australia’s PM julia gillard was our first female prime minister and was bullied relentlessly throughout her career by sexist politicians saying that as a woman she was unfit to lead. and then. then. one day, julia gillard snapped.

the resulting three-minute speech, known simply as the ‘misogyny speech’ in australia, was possibly the most epic smackdown seen in australian political history, surpassed only by “i wanna do you slowly”. it was incredible. students memorised it and marched through the streets yelling it. a national australian choir arranged it as a five-harmony piece. even hillary clinton went out of her way to meet julia gillard and tell her how fucking awesome the misogyny speech was.

i, personally, have the misogyny speech memorised. because i live in tony abbott’s electorate, and my dream of dreams is to see him at the shops one day and follow him while yelling it.
