Even as the amendment was overwhelmingly rejected, the vote underscores the anti-Israel mood within the Democratic party is growing
This kind of thing was the real goal of October 7th. I puzzled over the strategy of it for years because I couldn’t understand what could possibly be gained by an incursion that could not hold onto land and would obviously result in the deaths of tens of thousands of one’s people. I didn’t understand how Sinwar would think it would succeed.
Of course, he didn’t. He knew they were never going to get to Al-Aqsa, and that they wouldn’t hold the Otef for more than a few days. He knew what would follow. So why did he do it?
To splash Palestine onto the world’s front pages and screens, to shift the Overton window, and eventually to cause the ground to shift enough to have real consequences. Like this one.
I get the opposition to cutting Iron Dome funding. Of course I don't want to put Israelis (or anyone else) in danger.
But Israel does have the money to pay for the Iron Dome itself. Money is fungible. It will be painful to have to raise taxes or defund other programs in order to do so. And that's the point of cutting off aid. The point is to put pressure on them.
I mean… if Bibi becomes known to Israelis as “the person who ruined the US-Israel relationship” it would definitely hurt him electorally, but it wouldn’t change the basic philosophies or politics of Israelis
Israelis have had decades to change their philosophies and they haven't. I hope that Israelis change but we can't rely on that alone. We need external pressure to force them to change policies.

"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
200 YEARS IN THE FUTURE IM EXPLORING THE ANTEDELUVIAN RUINS OF PITTSBURGH I SCOUT THE TUNNEL AHEAD OF MY PARTY AND DISCOVER A TREASURE CHEST I CAST A SUBTLE SPELL TO SEE IF ITS A MIMIC ITS NOT I CHECK IT FOR TRAPS SEEMS SAFE AND OPEN UP THE TREASURE CHEST ITS FULL OF THESE AND A WAND OF SLENDERMAN SUMMONING I HIDE THE CHEST FROM MY APPROACHING PARTY MEMBERS (THE PALADIN WOULD SURELY DESTROY THESE EVIL RELICS) IF I CAN SELL THIS TO THE DARK LORD FARTICUS TOUCH ILL BE ABLE TO RETIRE ON A SEASIDE PLEASURE CUBE
One of my all-time favorites
I don’t know what’s crazier: that at least 200 species names had this specific slur, or that 205 of the 556 votes wanted to keep it
???
the way some people talk about jews makes it sound like they just discovered the concept of human culture. “they have a word for outsiders 😡” yes most people do
Christian babies have so far not found a purpose or use outside of baseball
There is a joke about antisemitic conspiracies in here somewhere but I can't quite find it.
love love love this
one of the many things that make disability discourse online so terrible is that "disability" is an extremely heterogeneous group that it basically never makes sense to write a tweet-length sentiment about
Same feeling about posts that say "neurodivergent people do X" when in fact neurodivergent people do many different things. They are divergent.
Yep, I made a frutiger aero soft soap alien… 💧🐠🤍🫧🧼

the saddest part about jumblr is that we cannot play jewish geography with each other without doxxing ourselves :(

#very sure some of us know each other in real life#but cannot reveal#because ummm#hey are you so and so on Tumblr#is not a normal thing to say#Lowkey if I realised anyone on tumblr was someone I knew#I'd have to block them forever
I can think of 3 people from jumblr who I ran into in the wild without trying. And I did confirm it was them but only online, afterwards. Not in person in the moment lol.
big fan of the four-year-old on this flight who yelled "THEY ARE BRINGING COMPLEMENTARY BEVERAGES" when the flight attendants came down with the drinks cart
