Hey guys it gets even better!!

For a long time 2d animation hasnt been able to improve like how cgi always does, its one of the reasons that theres less of it now. One of the ways to improve 2d is too add shadow and depth but that requires drawing it on every frame and thats a shit ton of money amd time.

The team of Klaus set out to solve this problem. They made very cool programs that determine the idea of the form based on line art and one to add shadows where the amimators do a few hand done ones and the program dos the rest using those as a guide, only needing tweaks after.

Its a cost effective way to improve 2d animation and could possibly mean the return of it by usuing this technology.

I don’t think people understand how FAR 2D animation has come in recent years, because we never see it showcased in feature films anymore.

We have programs that can take vector AND raster lines, from two separate frames, and then auto in-between them.

We have programs that can simulate the look of additional hand drawn frames to make frame holds look more alive and authentic.

We have programs that simulate brush strokes and paint effects that can be manipulated and enhanced in real time.

We have programs that allow you to paint directly onto 3D objects, adjust them frame by frame, and simulate the look of 2D animation.

We’ve even got programs that can take an art style and apply it to an animation using algorithms and deep learning techniques.

Like… the tech is THERE. It EXISTS. All we need are companies to have faith in the products and people willing to tell good stories.

Someone once told me it’s like that because it was designed to be hung in a stairwell so the skull pops out as you walk past.

There was a whole trend at one point where artists would include something in their paintings (usually a skull, for whatever reason) that’s super distorted in just the right way so that it looks normal if you hold the painting up to a convex/concave mirror. I have absolutely no idea why. But I think that’s what’s going on here.

The current usage of “a few bad apples” bothers me.

A few bad apples spoil the barrel. If you put a rotting apple in with three dozen good ones, every adjacent apple will be rotting within days. “A few bad apples” does NOT mean “we have a good barrel but, oh well, sometimes bad things happen.” “A few bad apples” means “Our entire organism is rotting from the inside out, triggered by the actions of a few and perpetuated by the natural processing of the whole.” When you say “we had a few bad apples” your next words had BETTER be “we excised them, quickly and permanently, and checked the remaining ones to make sure they’re still good.”

Chef Boyardee is known today for his cheap out-of-the-can pasta, but in his native Italy he was a renowned expert chef. He was reduced to the face of microwaveable eateries after his death.

Chef Ettore Boiardi, known today as Chef Hector Boyardee, was a key player in keeping poverty struck families fed for a low price, before he ever came out with the canned pasta line. He would jar his sauce in milk bottles and provide bags of dry noodles for families in Cleveland, Ohio’s Little Italy sector. It was during the Depression, and pasta could be made in large portions at a low cost. This was the start of his venture. 

After years of success, he eventually opened his canning facility, opened his restaurant “Il Giardino d’Italia” in New York, and helped feed the Allies during the war. Everyone always glazes over this part of his life, especially the Cleveland part. He lived here. He DIED here. He’s BURIED HERE. My mother took care of him at the nursing home she worked for in her early 20′s when he was ailing and spoke of nothing but the kindness he and his family radiated when they were there. Chef Boiardi was an immigrant with a dream and was always there to help those in need, because he knew what it was like to be in that position. Never let that go.
