So a little preamble for this post: I have serious chronic pain. I have a migraine every single day. It’s fucking awful. I haven’t mentioned it because it didn’t seem relevant.

And then I read some more of Gale’s dialogue, more critically. He talks about the orb the same way I talk about my migraines. Simultaneously downplays and impresses the significance of it. Doesn’t want to talk about it very much even once you know. He’s an arch mage who, when you meet him, can’t even cast Misty Step. And while Wyll mentions the tadpole affecting his pact magic, no one else says anything similar as far as I’m aware. Which leads me to believe that Gale’s not incapable of the magic as much as he is too exhausted and distracted to conjure it. Gale is in chronic pain every single day, and he never outright says it. Even after the orb is gone.

This probably isn’t a new revelation, but it just reinforced how much I identify with (and adore) him. Or maybe I missed a bit of dialogue and it’s outright said at some point, which would make me feel a lot dumber for missing it. But damn, knowing my husband can actually understand the daily pain just makes me love GaleTav more. (I HC every Tav I play with similar issues to me.)

I think everyone is aware Patch 7 fixed Gale’s ‘last name’ dialogue so that it activates in the game now, but equally as important is that it also fixed his expressions, too. Previous datamined clips showing this dialogue had him looking very ‘flat’ while he spoke, so you couldn’t really read into his emotions:

Gale: You like so many things about me I’d have sooner discarded…Your generosity is quite wonderful. Gale Dekarios likes you too. Very, very much.

Now, after watching the updated animation, it struck me how he says “Gale Dekarios likes you too” with a serious, sincere look on his face—but then he pauses, and his whole expression shifts into a loving smile as he emphasizes “Very, very much”…

Look me in the eyes and tell me this isn’t him thinking about how he’s going to propose to Tav 🥹

i honestly believe that Professor Gale would somehow become the magical version of whatever educational show your teacher puts on in class when they don’t want to teach. like he just projects himself into the classroom and yaps about magic all class. just a wizard bill nye the science guy. he loves talking about magic so much you KNOW he’d be down to do it if somebody asked him to.

imagine being a student at blackstaff academy. you walk into your abjuration class and there’s a purple see through man standing in front of the class wearing funky robes and doing dorky little gestures. you know it’s gonna be a good class when the teacher busts out the mirror image dude. like yeah sure technically he saved baldurs gate and all that, but why are you asking him about that? he brought a drawing of his cat with him and he’s here to tell you all about how to cast mage armour
