Goodbye, Dad...
May 10, 1939 - Sept. 10, 2025
It's my 11 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
Gosh thus Tumblr account is like 13 years old at this point. I don't know if the people I know are still around.
My peak was around 10 years ago when I was making Cloti content nonstop, getting involved in ship wars and all of that.
Just want to say I've already left FFVII. I hated what they did with the Remake. My interest in playing Rebirth is probably like 1/10.
I ship Cloti and all, but my love for the ship is not greater than my love for the individual characters in the original. The structural, narrative, and thematic problems of the new FFVII ruin my experience with this new timeline.
/end of rambling
Funny you should ask
Something I don’t see brought up and I wonder if they’ll go into this at all in the actual game (I never played OG so I don’t know if there’s any basis for a scene like this) but Tifa also has so much bottled up guilt and anger.
I’ve been rewatching Remake stuff the scene after the plate falls and Barret is mourning and shouting and angry because he thinks his daughter and three of his friends are dead. And Tifa just walks up and is like “we did this.”
Barret of course is like “no, Shinra took it this far, they’re the ones to blame” and when he looks back at Tifa she, with no conviction, won’t even look at Barret, just says “…yeah” while her fists are clenched and shaking at her side.
This moment does not get talked about at all but it’s something I think about all the time in regards to Tifa.
Logically she knows that Shinra pulled the trigger, that they chose to escalate things to this degree, but she also knows that it was in (extreme) retaliation for what her and Avalanche had been doing. So she feels responsible. And she’s so angry because once again her home and people she loves went up in flames because of those assholes up in their lofty tower, and she couldn’t do anything. Again.
We get another fist clenched and trembling moment if you get her special cutscene at Aerith’s house but that time she actually cries (and gets a hug she desperately needed).
Tifa is a kind, compassionate soul but there’s still so much raw emotion boiling under the surface that she just… doesn’t let out enough I feel.
Why do people pit Aerith and Tifa against each other? I know there's some kind of weird love triangle but the girls don't even seem to know they're apart of it. Why the hate?
When it comes to shipping, the fandom can be a bit...well, passionate. Sometimes overly so. It's been going on for two decades and it shows no signs of stopping. Rebirth is about to set off a tactical nuke.
Can't we agree that they are BOTH Best Girl? They're both incredible characters in their own unique ways. And hey, they're family in the actual games. They love each other. And I don't mean that romantically (though that's fine too), but they care about each other the way family would. The fact that there's this constant hate and bile directed at two halves of the same whole is just... well, it makes me sad.
They're both so much better than this. They're worth MORE than this.
Devil found an angel 😇
im finally playing the game

Cloud: "Oh my God, you could grind meat on those — GAH!".
The internet trauma dumped on poor Elmo
And Sesame Street said "Y'all need therapy."
Oh, wait. Then Sesame Street said, "We're still here for you." 🥹
Boss.
She looks like she just earned the bad ending from Streets of Rage.
"YOU BECAME THE BOSS! YOU ARE GREAT!"
My schnauzer Corky went over the rainbow bridge this morning. 🌈 Will always miss you, little buddy...
[image description: tweet by Netchimen’s Reverie that reads “Tolkien describing places that are evil: no trees grow there” /end description]
This is doubtless because of his experience of the trenches in the Great War.
Like, this is what things looked like to soldiers who fought in that war (image in black and white of a solitary soldier walking across a muddy wasteland pocked with puddles):
Here’s Delville Wood, the site of a battle in 1916 (sepia image of a wasteland dotted with broken and dead trees):
Here’s an image from the Battle of the Somme, in which Tolkien participated (image of soldiers standing above and inside a trench or earthwork in a grey wasteland; smoke from artillery is on the horizon)
So yeah: no trees = evil was Tolkien’s own direct lived experience. It’s precisely why Mordor and the wastelands around it look like they do in his books.
the plateau of gorgoroth, the heartland of mordor, is described as being scarred by countless pits dug by orcs the true seat of evil is full of foxholes and trenches
There’s a lesson to be learned here.
I hope Tolkien would be happy to learn that a hundred years on, trees grow again here:
From The Atlantic.
I think that Tolkien would be very happy to see that.
The trees have reclaimed the land in which hell had been brought
Did You Know: A Dovahzin (literally “Dragon Honor”) is a dragon name? A mortal can be given a Dovahzin by a dragon as a mark of admiration from them, with one example of this being the dragon Nahfahlaar naming the Vestige “Ahkahtuz” (Hunter-Pride-Blade).
Did You Know: Sharp-as-Night is voice by Brandon Keener? Brandon Keener has appeared in many video games in the past, with his most notable role arguably being Garrus Vakarian from the Mass Effect series.
Happy Birthday Tifa!
Speaking of the escape from Junon, what elements of that do you think will be redone because you could argue that some elements of it can be considered a bit silly. For example:
- How does Tifa end up KO'd for a whole week (Think it would take more than the Highwind's WEAPON-related turbulence to have her out for a whole week)
- Dumbass guard drops the key to the chamber right in front of her (Shinra and it's hilarious incompetence)
The slap fight (Tifa is a master martial artist who can casually punch through machines. Even weakened from her ordeal, pretty sure she could Saitama Scarlet at close quarters)
-
It's because she has head trauma. It's the same as when she fell from Mt nibel and was in a coma for a week, so it's absolutely possible.
I'd assume she'd snag the key somehow before he left or it's a coded lock and we have to put the right sequence in each cuff to unlock it as a timed minigame.
I doubt it'll be a slap fight. Scarlet will definitely slap Tifa, and she'll probably palm strike her back which would knock her off her feet. It's very likely gonna be a full on boss battle using the bazooka that's in Scarlet's concept art in the remake mini art book.
Either way, Tifa's gonna dive off the cannon and hang from the highwind as her escape
Kinda makes me think Rebirth is gonna end with them escaping Junon rather than just waking up to Meteor. The minigame where Tifa escapes the gas chamber doesn’t strike me as a start-of-game thing, especially if it’s there’s a time limit to it this time unlike in the OG. Maybe have the game in part 3 start off in Wutai.
