This prompt is from my AU named Linked Memories, for context, the ladybug miraculous holders in this universe have the ability to see the memories of the people they know, these memories are shown as different coloured strings which are invisible to everyone expect for the ladybug miraculous holder and they must be touched in order to see the memories imbued inside the strings, though only the memories that people subconsciously allow to be seen can in fact be seen and interacted with too but not changed.

The Parisian night hummed with a quiet energy, a stark contrast to the turbulent emotions swirling within Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Perched atop the gleaming Le Grand Paris hotel, Ladybug surveyed the city, her red suit a stark splash of color against the moonlit backdrop. Her yo-yo, usually a source of comfort and swift movement, hung loosely at her side. Tonight, patrol felt different. A heavy weight settled in her chest, a feeling she couldn't quite place.
She landed softly on the rooftop balcony of Chloe Bourgeois’s suite. A flicker of her enhanced vision, a gift and a curse, tugged at her. The familiar, yet unsettling, strings of connection shimmered around her. One, a thick, vibrant gold, pulsed with an almost painful intensity. It was Chloe’s.
Ladybug had never deliberately sought out Chloe's memories. Their interactions were usually brief, sharp, punctuated with Chloe’s characteristic barbs. But tonight, something compelled her.
Almost against her will, she reached out, her fingers brushing against the shimmering yet surprisingly shaky golden string.
A torrent of images flooded her mind, a chaotic rush of emotions that slammed into her with unexpected force. She saw Chloe as a little girl, desperately craving the affection of a mother who was always just out of reach. She saw the sting of forgotten birthdays, the hollowness of empty promises. She saw the carefully constructed façade of the spoiled, unshakeable girl crumble away, revealing a vulnerability that Ladybug had never suspected.
The memories were raw, unfiltered, and deeply painful. Ladybug recoiled, her hand flying to her head. The emotional impact was staggering.
Tears welled in her bluebell eyes, blurring her vision. She stumbled back, a sob escaping her lips. How could she have been so blind? She had judged Chloe so harshly, based on the surface, without ever considering the hidden battles she fought.
The weight of her assumptions crashed down on her, an unbearable burden.“I… I’m so sorry” she choked out, her voice trembling. “I thought… I thought I knew… but I didn’t. I didn’t know anything.” She sank to the floor, curling into a ball, tears streaming down her face.
The sobs wracked her body, a mixture of guilt, shame, and a profound sadness for the girl whose pain she had just witnessed.
Chloe stood frozen, her icy blue eyes wide with confusion. She had never seen Ladybug like this. The invincible heroine, the symbol of hope and strength, was crying, broken.
And then, she heard the words, the genuine apology, the admission of ignorance. Something inside Chloe shifted. A dam broke. Tears welled up in her own eyes, hot and stinging. No one had ever apologized to her like that, with such raw sincerity.
She crouched down beside Ladybug, her hand hovering hesitantly before gently resting on her shoulder. “It’s… it’s okay” she stammered, her voice thick with emotion. She had never offered comfort before, not genuinely. But the sight of Ladybug’s distress stirred something within her.
She pulled the hero into a hesitant hug. Ladybug stiffened for a moment, surprised by the unexpected contact. Then, slowly, she relaxed, burying her face in Chloe’s shoulder. They clung to each other, two girls crying for different reasons, finding solace in the shared vulnerability of the moment.
The beeping of Ladybug’s earrings, a constant reminder of the time slipping away, was a distant hum. For once, she ignored it. The timer, usually so urgent, seemed insignificant compared to the connection she had forged with Chloe.
Four minutes ticked by, each one an eternity. The final beep echoed, and the pink light engulfed Ladybug, transforming her back into Marinette. Tikki tumbled out of the earrings, her bluebell eyes wide with shock before she quickly hid back into Marinette’s bag.
Chloe gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. “Marinette?” she whispered, her voice barely audible. The realization hit her like a ton of bricks. Marinette, the girl she had teased, the girl she had secretly admired, was Ladybug. The blush that crept up her cheeks was a mixture of embarrassment and fluster. She had been hugging Marinette!
Marinette’s panic flared. Her secret was out. Chloe knew. She braced herself for the inevitable, the mocking laughter, the betrayal. But it never came.
Instead, Chloe’s voice, soft and reassuring, broke through her fear. “I… I won’t tell anyone” she promised, her eyes meeting Marinette’s.
Marinette’s breath hitched. Relief washed over her, so intense it almost made her weak. She looked at Chloe, really looked at her, and saw not the spoiled, arrogant girl she thought she knew, but a complex, hurting human being.
A few minutes of awkward silence passed before Marinette spoke “I guess Cat Noir was right about you after all.” with a still slightly concerned look in her dazzling bluebell eyes.
Chloe tilted her head to the side in confusion “Cat Noir? I didn't know that you guys talked about me, what did he say?” She questioned curiously, a confused glimmer in her icy blue gaze.
“Oh, nothing much, just that I should give you a chance to prove yourself, we talked about this a few days ago actually” Marinette responded, while being careful not to accidentally reveal Cat Noir’s civilian identity which she found out a few days ago, having just finally regained some of her composure.
Chloe nodded understandingly, absentmindedly looking up at the beautiful star filled sky above as the sun finished setting in the horizon “You should probably go home now, your parents will be worried, you know” she advised helpfully, still looking at the stars above.
Marinette nodded once more in understanding before shouting “Tikki Spots On!” And transforming back into Ladybug with another flash of sparkling pink light.
She unhooked her yo-yo from around her hips and swung away from the hotel rooftop but not before giving a quick wave goodbye to Chloe who dazedly waved in return.
Chloe, overwhelmed by the events of the evening, finally retreated to her room. She curled up on her king-sized bed, clutching Mr. Cuddly, her stuffed bear, close to her chest. The events of the night replayed in her mind. Marinette was Ladybug. Ladybug had seen her memories. And, unbelievably, Ladybug had apologized. A small, hesitant smile touched her lips. Maybe, just maybe, things could be different.
