I want a series where it starts with a classic Robin Hood origin story. But then halfway through book two some old geezer shoves a baby at Maid Marian, and she gets attached. Standard hijinks ensue, the baby gets captured, the baby gets lost, someone kidnaps the baby 'for its own good' and they have to convince these people that despite being outlaws they can totally be respectable parents.

Then five books later, the kid, who they named Arthur, is fifteen and he pulls some magic sword out of a rock.

Now you've got a teenage king who was raised by a bunch of backroad outlaws. And no way are those outlaw parents, (and uncles/brothers) going to let their precious child bear the burden of the throne alone.

I've begun the writing process.

So far Robert is getting yelled at by a young Tuck.

But I'm sure those wanted poster will look great in Mariens scrapbook!

I have written the phrase

'so he punched him. Right in his punchable face.'

Which I feel sets the tone nicely for what the rest of this story is.

things I have learned while writing this:

Putting Robin Hood in an older, more magical, more mystical "England" Is REALLY fun vibes.

Designing a corrupt government is both really fun narratively and really frustrating logically. I know how to fix the problems, but my characters do not. (Poor Author, inheriting this mess of a kingdom)

Another thing I have learned during the writing process:

The myths of King Arthur are already 90% fanfic by volume and there are no rules.

me and a friend had a running joke about editing the gif of kermit and christian bale nodding at each other for a number of years, and i found the folder of edits and feel like this is maybe a place for them.

The thing about piracy (digital) is how the nature of it has changed, purely due to how hostile giant corporations got.

Like to it used to be "piracy isn't a victimless crime!" And the response was eyerolling and "yes it is. Because no one is harmed and it's ultimately not even affecting profit margins."

And then it was "Theres never a good reason to Pirate things" and the argument was "some things aren't available everywhere and the only way to access them is through piracy"

And then they started deleting movies people had bought from platforms. And completely deleting shows. Wiping records of beloved stories and franchises without any good reason too and not letting anyone even try to preserve them. And now piracy is preservation. Piracy keeps shows from disappearing forever, and already lost media from becoming more permanently lost.

Also we have to stop making excuses for them. You didn't "think" you bought that movie on a streaming platform. You bought that movie on the streaming platform. The fact that details in small print gives them a loophole to steal it from you is utter stupidity. If I went up to a person who I knew full well couldn't understand sign language and told them outloud "feel free to swim here! Theres no sharks!" While signing that they should watch out for the bloodthirsty eels. And they get eaten by the eels, I don't get to shrug and say "oh but i used to sign language to warn them about the eels" because I knew I was failing to properly warn them about the eels. They failed to properly warn us about how their platforms work. It's false advertising and theft.

Okay. So imagine a show.

2d animated, and set right after the events of the third pirates of the Caribbean movie.

It follows three main plots.

The first is Pirate King Elizabeth, as she struggles to raise her child as a single mother while her undead husband is off. And being the Pirate King, which is hard because the pirates are not used to having a king. The vibe is office sitcom. She has to yell at stupid pirates to put that very-obviously-cursed treasure back wherever they found it, and mediate fights between rival crews and pass judgement on instances of pirates breaking pirate code. No one listens to her, everybody fears her, and there's a running gag that every time she barges into barbossa office (she gave him a job out of spite) he's lounging on his desk in new and weirder ways. (And the monkey has a smaller desk on top of his desk)

The second is Captain of the Flying Dutchman Will Turner, as he misses his wife and mourns the fact that he can never properly be there for their child. And his job of ferrying souls to the dead. It's a more heartfelt and gentle storyline. Focusing on him helping people make peace with their deaths or letting them finish their unfinished business before they move on. He writes long poetic letters to Elizabeth and gets very sweet love notes back from her. He occasionally asks someone to join the crew. And is constantly staring longingly out to sea in the direction Elizabeth is in. It's the deeper half of the show, focusing on grief, loss, the burden of duty, and the nature of death and moving on.

The third is Grandpa Bootstrap Bill Turner, trying very hard to be a good father and father in law and helping babysit his absolutely insane grandchild. Along for the ride is all your favorite pirates from the crew of the black pearl, and the monkey. He struggles to keep an eye on the kid (who starts as baby and grows into a teenager as the show goes on) there's different hijinks every week. From running out of clean diapers and scrambling to find more to runaway baby carriages. As the kid gets older the hijinks change, first word is a curse word and now they are all scrambling to hide the fact that they taught her kid curse words from Elizabeth. The kid learns to walk and promptly wanders off and gets lost, toddles up a ramp and is now on a navy ship that just so happens to be departing in exactly ten minutes. The kid is a menace, I mean, he has to be, it's Will and Elizabeth's kid. His dad is escorting your dad to the other side and his mom is laying waste to some pesky navy ships because shes had a hard week.

Now here's the most important part. Because this is a Pirates of the Caribbean show, and Captain Jack Sparrow does not appear as a main character.

He's still very much there, but he is, he must be, exclusively in the background. He never really interacts with the main cast, barely ever effects the plot.

Caption Jack Sparrow is in the background inexplicably losing a fight to a seagull.

Captain of the Flying Dutchman Will Turner is gently letting a little girl say goodbye to her mother before he escorts her to the other side?

Caption Jack Sparrow is in the background trying to bail out his current rowboat.

Anyways if anyone would like to give me infinite time and money I'll do this show myself.

one specific scene/episode/hijink that's in my head is that one of the more episodic villains is a navy officer who does the whole 'dramatically swiveling around in his chair stroking a cat evilly' thing.

And Pirate King Elizabeth and crew have a properly dramatic fight and defeat him, while the monkey fights the cat and defeats it.

But while navy officer villain does NOT return his cat does. For the rest of the show the cat and the monkey have a rivalry and are constantly getting into fights in the background. They are some of the only main characters allowed to interact with Background-Captain-Jack-Sparrow, because while the cat and monkey usually hate each other they will team up to fight him. And they always win too.

Also, since it's canonical that the monkey is named Jack, clearly the cat needs to be named Sparrow.
