He’s so cool
the secret to organising any kind of trip with your friends is to become the benevolent dictator. do NOT wait for everyone to provide a consensus on things before you book anything. do it and then ask for feedback after. do not ask people what they would like to do just tell them what is happening and let them all nod along like the sheep they are. this is the ONLY way to coordinate a group of adults in their 20s/30s
How I join skeins
Cleeeeeveeer!
It's good to learn, remember, and share stuff like this.
When my mom or her sisters did crochet growing up, their dickhead older brothers thought it was hilarious to snip the yarn somewhere in the middle of the bundle. I suspect mom would've found a trick like this really handy.
Oh, this is a modified Russian join!
Here’s a full one:
1) find the end of both pieces. I’m using an off-white and a variegated green so you can easily see what I’m doing, but this can be used to join any two pieces of yarn that are the same weight as each other whether they’re the same color or not.
2) wrap the ends around each other like this. You don’t actually have to lay them down, I did it for clarity in the photos.
3) you’ll need a needle like this. They’re sold under the names “tapestry needle” or “yarn needle.” If you ever manage to find them made out of bamboo or wood, PLEASE TELL ME.
4) thread the yarn through itself as shown in the video above. HOWEVER, where that video shows strand #1 being threaded into strand #2, with the Russian join you’ll thread strand #1 back into itself, using the wrap around strand #2 as an anchor point. I use my toes as a “third hand” when doing stuff like this, but I’ve also seen people use the heel of their hand or a convenient paperweight or even nothing at all. Whatever will let you create a tight join is what you want to use.
Make sure you get this loop as small as you can.
5) repeat on strand #2. Trim the remaining ends.
6) you’re done! This is one of the strongest joins in crochet and knitting. It’s virtually undetectable in a finished project, and because of the wraparound shown in step #2 it can’t pull apart like a knot will.
Actually, wait…
7) don’t forget to put away your needle! “I’ll just stick it in the ball for later” is a comforting lie. The needle will disappear into the ball and you will never see it again, unless your foot finds it later. Don’t do it to yourself. PUT IT AWAY.

I also like it when they're like hey what's up or something personal/natural instead of the welcome to wherever how can I serve you bit.
I also like it when they are sitting down or listening to music they clearly enjoy
There is something so nourishing about walking into a place of business and immediately thinking "huh, I wouldn't have guessed this place would be playing this kind of music" only to see an employee absolutely head-banging along because today is their day to pick the CD and they are living
Despite what capitalists might think, I do not want to roleplay being royalty in the presence of slaves when I seek professional assistance in obtaining my basic human needs.

I just learned Jansport is making adaptable bags for mobility devices and thought I should share
They even have audio descriptions
[ID: a screenshot of the mobile Jansport website. There is a banner that says 'free standard shipping.' Under the banner is a link that says 'for audio description video click here.' Under the link is an illustration of 4 different types of mobility devices, each with its own adaptable Jansport bag. End ID.]
Jansport is a little pricey but it isn't like the adaptable bags are any more expensive than their other stuff, which is nice to see too!
Oh this is sick
Jansport is pricey because it's the last bag you'll ever have to buy. Seriously, buy two Jansport bags, when one breaks you send it back to Jansport and they fix it and send it back to you. In the meantime you use the second bag.
The cultural impact of “boomer” as a pejorative has been disastrous and I’m not even kidding
Gen z is not exceptional. Large swaths of gen z propagated Facebook-uncle tier misinformation to smear Amber Heard for speaking out about their favorite pirate actor. People are convinced “deadass no cap on god” is “tiktok speak” and not butchered AAVE. Many are already starting to define themselves as a generation of work ethic and meritocracy, unlike those whiny debt-riddled millennials. It’s becoming humiliatingly clear that this generation is not exceptional, it’s not radical just by virtue of being young (and we won’t be young forever), and it’s not going to fix everything “once the boomers die out.” We are speedrunning the stereotypical “hippie to Reagan voter” trajectory of the boomers, whose counterculture at the time frankly puts ours to shame. So are you going to put in the work, or are you going to gloat about being young and special and then shit yourself when you turn thirty?

"you don't owe anybody anything" has done irreparable damage to the minds of the youth
this ordeal of living is collaborative. we owe each other as much as we're able to give. come take ibuprofen with me.
"okay but..." "this only applies to..." "but what about..."
we owe all we're able to give. what are you able to give?
the notes are angering me so i'm going to reblog this again and stress something
DON'T EQUATE "WHAT YOU ARE ABLE TO GIVE" WITH "WHAT YOU HAVE" IN YOUR MIND. people are choosing to read the former in this post as the latter when it is not there. only you can judge what you are able to give. on some days, that may be nothing. so don't give anything on those days. only give what you are able to.
this isn't about unhealthily prioritizing doing as much as possible for others over doing anything for yourself, it's about not succumbing to individualism and being willing to help others where you can because that strengthens everyone! it's good to be connected to people and mutually supportive!!
im literally obsessed with my roommates family. they have this tiny ass puppy and you’re never gonna fucking guess what this thing is called

Tips for dealing with below 0°F temperatures, for anyone who's not used to it and is now having to deal with it in this winter storm:
Tuck your shirt into your pants to prevent the cold from sneaking in
Put on a sweater or a hoodie over that, and then also wear a coat over that
Put on a beanie and then pull your hood up over that (BOTH hoods if you're wearing a hoodie instead of a sweater)
Wear a scarf underneath your coat hood. You want it to be kept as close to you as possible, and hopefully high enough that you can tuck your nose into it while walking outside
Wear solid pants like jeans, and put on tights, leggings, or (if you actually have any) long underwear underneath
Wear two pairs of socks—at least one of which is long socks—and tuck your leggings into those
Wear boots or some other thick shoe with good traction if you have any
GLOVES. Wear two pairs if you need to. I only have one pair and now my hands are my only weak point 😭
Try not to stay outside for too long if you can help it, frostbite and hypothermia are painful and very dangerous. When you're inside, make sure you're eating plenty of food and drinking plenty of water. Your body needs energy and hydration to fight off the cold. Stay safe out there everyone
