i donāt know why but iām really amused by the winner of some ānew kanjiā contest:
compare with the real kanji
åŗ§ (seat/gathering), but the twoĀ äŗŗ (person) radicals have been moved from next to each other within theĀ å (earth) radical to diagonally from each other, making thisĀ āsocial distance(d seating/gathering)ā
This is hilarious, but to further the hilarity, Iād like to point to the fact that half of the āA rankā (runners up) for this contest also are related to 2020 epidemic jokes
First up we have:
Compare with 太
The original kanji means āto gain weightā. But it adds the ć³ ākoā and ćĀ āroā katakana symbols at the top to represent the weight you gain while staying home due to the corona virus.
Then we have:
Compare with ä¼Ā
The original kanjij means āmeetingā, but the lower radical is changed to look more like a āZā to represent Zoom meetings. Thus, the new kanji means āweb meetingsā or āzoom callsā
And of course another social distancing one:
Compare with 話Ā
This means āto talkā or āchatā, but itās changed simply to show the two radicals social distancing from one another as we should also while holding conversations nowadays.
At least we can have some fun language humor despite all of this!
fuck expensive funerals death shouldnāt be an industry just set my body in a cool looking chair so people see my skeleton sitting like a skyrim jarl in 200 years
Tumblr used to be such a huge part of my life and now I come here every few months to shout something into the void and itās greatĀ
Grading is infinitely more soul-killing than writing final papers or taking final exams
Allow me to de-introduce myself

A weird thing about having been a tumblr college student who is now a college instructor is like I can still tell who the tumblr students are
The funniest part about unlikeable geek men is they really are fully convinced people donāt like them because of their hobbies. They cannot even begin to process the idea that comics and D&D and shit have in fact always been kinda cool and their personslities might just be repulsive. The combined unwavering ego/persecution complex is... unreal.
āI was socially rejected because I like video gamesā no tyler, you were socially rejected because you turn every conversation you have into a competition and you call women āfemalesā
folk punk music just be like āim too poor to afford a therapist so im going to sing about my trauma over the sound of the jauntiest fucking guitar playing youve ever heard in your goddamn lifeā
the main response ive gotten to this post in peoples tags has been āand its goodā and i just wanted to say that youre right, it really is
I am so sorry
fellow tumblr users born in the 90's, we've entered the decade where we turn thirty! how are we feeling about this??
hmm. dont like this post
Iāve decided to be sexier in 2020. There will be with no actual effort on my part, l just intend to be perceived as such
i canāt believe superwholock existed as one the largest fandom(s) on this website. there hasnāt been a trace of it on my dashboard in years. No mention, no whisper. a ghost. i still follow people who reblogged it. i myself reblogged it. and yet here we are, not daring to ever mention it. im risking my life making this po
For those new to this site, āSuperwholockā was the crossover fandom for the overlap of three of the biggest individual fandoms on tumblr -Ā soup, the Finnish municipality ofĀ Perho, and Enlightenment philosopherĀ John Locke.
Guys listen. Listen. At the start of this year, the year of our lord 2019, I was chatting to an actor in this play I was stage managing and she mentioned offhand that sheās thinking of getting a tattoo.
āOh,ā I say. āOf what?ā
She looks a bit awkward. āUm. Have you ever heard of this thing called Superwholock?ā
Let me tell you I aged about twenty years in the span of the next ten seconds where she started to explain Superwholock to me like itās some new thing thatās just spawned into existence and I know, instinctively, that I will not survive this conversation, I am not strong enough, so I cut her off. āUh, yeah. I know of Superwholock. Iāve been on Tumblr for a while.ā
āWhatās Tumblr?ā she asks.
Guys⦠I think Superwholock is still out there. They just changed home base. I didnāt ask where her Superwholock community was because there are some things beyond mortal ken, some things that would surely drive one mad should one attempt to find them.
theyre on pinterest looking at screenshots of tumblr posts im not fucking kidding this is how i learned about tumblr in 2014
#platos allegory of the caveā¦ā¦..
do kids these days know about grace kelly by mika
WHAT. IS. THIS. SORCERY.
1. i canāt believe there are people in the world who havenāt heard this
2. go check out mika heās great - important to note is that heās mlm (heās come out alternately as being gay, bisexual andĀ ānot interested in labelsā for a while) and a huge amount of his songs are about being mlm so in particular if ya need good mlm artists check him out
Seriously Mika is a gift and sunshine unto this sick sad world
mika is wildly popular in europe but his north american fanbase is like, six people and a napkin, and itās killing me.Ā
ALSO, he came out as bisexual/ānot interested in labelsā like a decade ago, but much more recently he came out as gay, so heās gay! his latest album, No Place In Heaven, is almost completely about being gay. itās got a song abt his sexuality and his religion, a song abt pining for your straight best friend, a song abt the music world that includes the lyrics āwhere have all the gay guys gone?ā, a song abt gay and lesbian solidarity, a song abt heterosexual expectations from family, and two songs that are just abt being super ridiculously in love w your partner.
please listen to Mikaās entire discography because there are a LOT of classics that iām 100% sure youāve heard at some point in your life, all the love songs are implicitly gay, itās great, but ESPECIALLY listen to No Place In Heaven (2015).
it always surprises me to remember that mika isnāt actually a part of the global populaceās general consciousness
because his debut album, life in cartoon motion, was such a huge part of my generationās tween and teen years
like, i guarantee you, you can walk up to any swedish millennial, and they will still know every single line of his song lollipop
it was just a part of our upbringing;
become a crippling anxious mess
develop an attitude problem
and memorize all of mikaāsĀ lollipop
This is so strange for me ācause here in Italy Mika has a show on one of the main tv channel
I just love him sooo much ā¤ā¤ā¤
I just want to point you all to this masterpiece:Ā
Iām American and heās so obscure and niche here. Seeing people talk about how much they love him and how everyone around them knew him growing up makes me very happy. His music was honestly such an integral part of growing up for me but most people I meet donāt even know who he is.
Now everyone go listen to Mika immediately
I remember being 16 and dancing to Grace Kelly in my best friendās living room and screaming the lyrics and just feeling so okay in that moment. Mika is one of my favorite memories of that era in my life
Heās wiiildly known here in France (heās now a coach for The Voice France btw)Ā and most kids my age when I was a tween/teen knew his songs, if only because they kept playing on every radio (srsly I canāt even imagine that some people have never heard Relax, Take It Easy?????? It was literally EVERYWHERE here, you couldnāt escape it) and it was pretty awesome because his songs are absolutely wonderful and he is a pure ray of sunshine (also getting emo to Happy Ending and By the Time, that was an experience).Ā
Heās such an important artist who should be recognized outside of Europe too, because besides the fact that his voice is OUT THERE, heās very vocal about minorities, about who he is, and about celebrating differences; plus his mother is Lebanese, his father is American, he lived in Lebanon, France and the UK in his youth and he speaks fluently six languages heās a pure example of how being open to the world only makes us grow and makes it a better placeĀ
Please, yes, if you donāt know about him go listen to his songs, you wonāt regret it. I kinda want to link all his songs because theyāre all different and amazing but the ones above posted by the others are very good to start with and yāknow what, Iāll just add one of my favesĀ ācause it can brighten oneās day (also look up One Foot Boy pls though)
(Also he made a song with Ariana Grande based on the song Popular from the musical Wicked, how do yāall not know about that?)
Every time someone starts telling that they wanna supplement their body with computer parts Iām just like okay great but donāt cry to me when your memories of loved ones or your ability to run are locked behind paywalls.
