This is the only post about tadc I'll post before the 19th to not put any more spoilers out there, but the pronoun topic is the one thing I wanna ask about cause I've only seen the movie once in my country's dub and I don't remember all the details
So this is me asking for clarification so I can use the right pronouns during online discourse
The Last Act confirmed that Jax is a trans woman, but I am kinda confused about what pronouns we're supposed to use now cause I kinda don't agree with the takes I've seen online? Though, maybe the Eng original version painted a slightly different picture that I obviously wouldn't know about yet.
Cause Leroy? I absolutely agree, we should be using she/her pronouns for. Even if the ending still describes Leroy with he/him pronouns, I can absolutely get behind the idea that she has had enough time to figure things out during the years that went by (while Jax was in Circus) to already identify as a woman, even if she publicly still goes by he/him. So using she/her pronouns for Leroy feels right and respectful.
My disagreement comes with people demanding that JAX needs to now be exclusively referred to as she/her or else you're transphobic. But, like, Jax (THAT version of Leroy) did not identify as a women and also died not having done so.
Yes, he absolutely had very conflicted feelings and knew deep down that his heart and mind is pulling him in the direction of this truth of his, but that doesn't change that - as far as I remember how it was depicted on-screen - Jax did not identify as she/her. He wasn't in the mindset or save enough of an environment (due to Caine who is being let off the hook way to easily in the end, all things considered) to get to that point.
As Pomni says in the end, Pomni and Abigail are two different people now because of the impact the Circus has had on her and the fact that SHE (Pomni) is never gonna be able to return to Abigail's life anyway. This is why it feels wrong to me to treat Jax and Leroy as the same people. They are not.
Jax ended up being the worst case scenario of what Leroy could have turned into during that low point in her life. As far as I remember, she didn't even enter the circus being toxic and abusive (she pushed her mother in a state of panic, not because she wanted to deliberately hurt her), that downwards spiral happened after the incident with Ribbit. The circus environment and its extreme circumstances brought Leroy down the worst and most tragic path, so that version of Leroy wasn't truly given the needed opportunity to sort things out and get better as the real world Leroy got to thanks to her friend she found a home with and finding a save space in lgbtq+ bars like Riley's (Zooble's).
The beauty of the ending scene in which the characters find out the truths about their real-life counterparts is the relief that said other version was allowed to continue their lives and not be stuck with whatever issues they came into the circus with and never got to move on from because the circus was such an extreme and harmful environment that their personal development stagnated at best or spiralled downwards at worst.
The ending for me works because it shows that despite the insane amount of harm Caine caused, these people weren't completely robbed of their lives and personal development. It's just that the versions we've been following all this time simply weren't the ones who got to continue their lives normally, undisturbed by Caine and the Circus. This is why I can get behind them forgiving Caine and accepting having to exist forever in the Circus. Because they know that the "normal" versions of them are still out there and they find fulfilment in that.
They can let go of these lives they've once had because these lives are still being lived is what I'm saying.
But that brings me back to Jax. Cause in all this, I can't help but feel disrespectful when I refer to JAX as she/her. Because he never truly got to the point of identifying that way, which is part of his death's tragedy.
But most importantly, referring to JAX with she/him feels like I'm not actually respecting the preferred pronouns and experience of the trans-person and instead I'm deciding over their head what they're to be identified as after their death so I can stroke my own ego for how "good and progressive of a person I am".
Cause in the reality of the situation, JAX never truly identified as a trans woman and mentally/ emotionally couldn't handle taking on the she/her pronouns bc the Circus stopped that from happening
But LEROY thankfully got that chance.
So correct me if I'm wrong and something in the Eng original version goes against my conclusion here, but Jax should be referred to as he/him and LEROY as she/her.
Because that's what they're identifying as and THATS what should be respected by us as fandom.

gameoverse seems fun enough. but the cynical feminist in me can't help herself. all the male characters are like, cartoon blobs, which is contrasted strongly by the two major female characters in this pilot, both of whom are hour-glass shaped humanoid women who spend most of their screentime in swimsuits. and like that's not an outright dealbreaker but i *am* staring into the camera with my eyebrows raised.
idk i'm getting really tired of this "connecticut clark and malfina" type shit where male characters get to be Silly Abstract Little Guys but women have to be women shaped. it's this male-as-default thing that i hate where you don't need to add anything to a character design to imply male-ness but the woman better have wide hips and booba or else yknow like idk it's not outright Offensive but it is tiring
ok so i screenshotted this moment because i thought it was pretty cool
the first time we get to see all four elements working together for a common enemy, blah blah blah, but i started laughing because
sokka’s fucking boomerang. sokka threw a fucking boomerang at princess azula, renowned lightning bender and heir-apparent to the throne of the fire nation.
Azula considered Sokka to be the biggest threat in this group and countered him first. What this picture miss is Sokka sanding nearby. All members of this group unleash their attack at same time, but Azula reacts to boomerang first. If you watch this part in slow motion, you could see that Sokka’s boomerang was the first thing that would hit Azula and may even incapacitate her making her unable to continue to fight. So she had to counter in first. She deflected it with well placed shoot.
Then and only then, when there is no immediate threat, she starts to create her blue fire wall to counter other elements.
Lets think about this. How hard should you have to throw something to make it move faster that any elemental attack? Either all elemental attacks are slow or you are pretty strong. That said nonbenders with good aim and strong hands could easily overpower benders if they timed it right.(Aang got captured by Yuan archers who are all nonbenders.) Azula knew of this and acted according to it. She is talented bender and you may think that she should enlist other benders to help her track and capture Zuko, Iroh, and later avatar, but instead she uses her nonbender friend to help her.
Even if you have no bending you can still fight… and win.
Let’s not forget that on the Day of Black Sun, Sokka was the one in charge and Azula was no idiot Azula knew that.
When Aang, Sokka, and Toph all confronted Azula, she proceeded to make them chase her and waste their time. Azula is not only talented, she’s sly and smart as hell. WHO WAS THE ONE WHO SAW THROUGH THAT BS CHASE?
Sokka.
NOT ONLY THAT
but after Sokka explains to the Gaang that Azula is just baiting them, Azula actually verbally attacks Sokka. Not through fighting, but through words, knowing not only that an intelligent person like him could only be brought down with emotions BUT that Sokka was the leader and if she could get him the stay, Aang and Toph would follow his lead.
Azula knew Sokka was their strength and took him down. WOULD SHE DO THAT IF HE WASNT A SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO HER!!??!
No. She wouldn’t waste her time and energy on someone she didn’t think was capable of actually getting in her way.
WHEN SHE GETS HER FIREBENDING BACK SHE HAS THE OPTION OF ATTACKING BADASS METAL BENDING TOPH AND THE FUCKING AVATAR
WHO DOES SHE ATTACK?!?!
Azula never underestimated the power of non benders especially an intelligent one like Sokka. Sokka was a huge threat to fucking Azula on multiple occasions.
I mean, Azula’s friends/most trusted warriors were two non-benders. Mai was an expert with thrown weapons and Tai Lee was the only chi blocker shown in the first series, and she was able to take down half a groups of earth nation soldiers like that. Azula knows that non-benders are dangerous and she sees sokka for the genius he is
She’s knows she can take bending, she can redirect fire and she’s fought Katara a lot- but unlike Zuko she was probably never trained with weapons, she knows she has no defense to a sword or a club, and she knows that one of Ty Lee’s biggest advantage is that people underestimate her
