whenever the conversation about difficulty and accessibility in games come up i want to slam my head into a wall because noone thats speaking has anything more than a surface level understanding of what "difficulty" even is
your game should have accessibility options, but if your only accessibility options are "turn off central game mechanics" then you have made shit accessibility options.
you know what accessibility option doesnt completely fucking butcher your game while allowing almost everyone to play it? an option that is not available in 99.99% of all games ever made? easy:
bonus points: if you put a game speed slider in your game you can also allow Absolute Fucking Freaks to turn it higher than 100%
I suppose this is the perfect time to introduce one of my favorite OCs: the IT guy that works for the Bazaar in modern era
The Dauntless Technician
Explains to Wines that even if you delete a drunk post, everyone still saw it and it exists forever. Pretends not to see the hundreds of files of porn when they tune up its PC (it is still in charge of the sex trade after all)
Explains to Spices that you can't delete other people's (Wines') posts but you can block them (Spices doesn't). Goes in and clandestinely blocks access to Wines' pages from Spices' browser to get 20 minutes of peace
Removes viruses from Pages' computer because it keeps clicking suspicious "love story" links. There's an infamous incident where Pages clicked an attachment and introduced ILOVEYOU to the Neath. Explains to Pages that you can't make people unblock you
Pages would probably have some claim over the social media trade. The Technician moonlights as a white hat hacker undermining Pages' censorship attempts
Works closely with Fires, considering Fires probably jumps on owning technology as it advances (electricity, invention are under its domain). Fires thinks the Technician is its best ally because the Technician stands there listening to it rant (as an IT person, they are blessed with godlike patience). The Technician couldn't care less.
Replaces Fires' hardware because it melted it for the third time this week after seeing ragebait posts or reading emails from Iron. Also has to deal with Fires demanding the Technician help it install the latest tech updates the moment they drop, even if the Technician can see they won't be good.
Stones is really into mining bitcoin. Our technician doesn't even try touching that
Helps Happles set up a huge PC setup so it has two separate devices/cameras to stream cooking videos as Mr Apples and more scandalous material as Mr Hearts
The technician's favorite master is Iron. It's never demanding, it quickly adjusts to learning how to use technology, and it never gets into trouble with its devices because it's too paranoid to open spam. Iron is happily rolling in a fortune on the metals used in producing computer chips (and intermittently biting Fires over negotiations)
Embattled in a personal, passionate rivalry with the ruthless and skilled "hacker" who tries attacking the Bazaar every seven weeks, DDOS attacks are themed around water imagery, ransomware demands flesh and reckoning (the Technician doesn't have patience for any of this melodrama). The hacker's screen name is allshallbewell.
The Technician sends out PSAs begging people to recognize this and other parabolan hackers' signatures in spam links, which due to the entwining of computing and parabola, can not only brick your device but have dangerous mental consequences
The Bazaar is a messenger so really would be like the source of wifi/central communications network of the Neath, wouldn't she? The Technician gains an intimate knowledge of her from working so closely into her systems. The Penstock of the seventh city.
If our Technician is revolutionary inclined: can they pull off the job of a lifetime? Push a software update through the Bazaar's network that makes her realize she doesn't have to do all this to impress someone who will never love her? Save the Seventh by writing a program that makes the Bazaar love herself?
Veils would either try to create computer viruses for everyone else in the Neath or doxxing. It might fly out to eat whoever got doxxed later
Also Mr Fires builds an AI data centre in the Neath and is engaged in a blooded feud with Pages over eether or not gen AI should be used for making art. It's not clear which side either one is on
Something something Arthur descending into madness something something him slowly becoming the antithesis of his past self something something his past self representing humanity something something him using the same dagger he used to kill himself to save John to murder someone
Something about John becoming more human as Arthur becomes more monstrous something something being a reverse mirror of each other's paths
The three tiers of queer sff:
Broke: what is worldbuilding? Made in a lab to be as blandly inoffensive as possible. Time to randomly namedrope terms like 'nonbinary' and 'ace' while doing zero work actually incorporating them into the world or characters and have someone give a speech about how valid they are. Lines like 'I'm too ace for this' while never exploring the concept of asexuality or aromanticism and still having very central romance plotlines is common. I hate it here learn how to write realistic dialogue and fully realized characters I'm begging.
Woke: more ore less typical sci-fi and fantasy but It’s Queer Now. Might include in-universe queerphobia to be struggled against or may have queer identities be fully normalized. Can be done bad or well depending on the skill of the writer. A good way to explore our contemporary ideas of gender and sexuality or to have a bit of a power fantasy with lesbian princesses and trans knights. There will probably be a bisexual love triangle.
Bespoke: what is a gender. What is monogamy. What is polyamory. What is romance. What is platonic. Time to show you the most fucked up uncategorizable relationship you’ve ever seen. There may be weird ass metaphorical sex
fuck it
Book recs: tier three queer sff
AKA books that tackle gender, sexuality and relationships in ways that come off as deeply alien and non normative to our present day culture, frequently featuring actual aliens.
For details on the books, check under the readmore! My personal favorites are marked with an *
A note: as I'm generally more into sci-fi than fantasy, this list skews heavily toward the former. Feel free to make your own recommendations in the notes if you know of more titles!
If you want more book recs, check out my masterpost of rec lists!

day 1 oc creation: bad childhood, homosexuality
day 15: oral fixation
day 35: favorite color is blue
Malevolent part 24 or Arthur and his emotional support splinter of an eldritch god
I love that Jules Verne asked the question "What kind of person could circumnavigate the world in 80 days?" and decided that the answer was not a groundbreaking explorer or genius inventor, but a guy who's really, really, really obsessed with train and boat schedules.
my final paper for my CS degree was literally "how can we algorithmically optimise for the fastest possible circumnavigation route on commercial flights?", which incidentally required me to adopt a very good working knowledge of what flight options are available at what times (and also led to me accidentally memorising several hundred airport codes)
incidentally the fastest possible route seems to be about 51 hours, if you're working from 2022 schedules like i was. if you use current schedules and are very optimistic about how quickly you can transfer between flights, you can maybe get it down to around 48 hours (also known as 25 millivernes).
The very best thing about tumblr is that you can make a post about a 154-year-old novel and get responses like this.
Someday I'm gonna.
Rip Jules Verne you would have love to live in a world where your guy could circumnavigate the world in 48 to 51 hours
You know, I think comic books have experienced a very similar conundrum with their characters as Hollywood.
I’ve heard that newer films struggle to cast actors due to the lack of expressiveness, and newer releases are panned for the same reason. Actors struggle to convey emotion, as so many of them have gone through procedures to heighten their aesthetics at the cost of range. It’s the Botox epidemic. You can’t contort a face full of filler.
With regards to comics, if it isn’t obvious, I like collecting silly panels. No duh. And in older comics, it is so easy to find exaggerated expressions and ugly faces, even made by traditionally “pretty” or “beautiful” characters. Because, you know, they were emoting. The priority for artists was conveying actual emotion. It’s much harder these days. I’d have to assume it’s also for comparable reasons as the frozen face syndrome in Hollywood. The priority has shifted from emoting to aesthetics. Characters are kept from looking ugly, and therefore cannot properly convey ugly feelings.
It’s probably not a new or unique thought. I dunno. Enjoy a few silly Batman’s.
My tinfoil hat theory is that (at least in DC comics case) the publishers can't decide who superhero comics are for. In the 80s, 90s. 00s even it was pretty common to acknowledge that superhero comicbooks were for teenegers. Nowadays it feels like they try to straddle both that and appealing to their largely adult reader base (I wouldn't be surprised if most people reading DC today are adults, or at elast the paying demographic). It seems to correlate with a trend of the publisher trying not to be too silly or childish in a way that would be corny. Of course, our main specialest guy carrying the entire publisher (Batman) has to be serious or someone will make fun of the adult reading it (sacasm). It feels like this trend of trying to make superhero stories more "respectable" by falling into the same rabbit hole that says that men who show emotions are weak and "feminine". Like the only way to make the stories "serious" is to make our men as stoic as possible becasue that's what Real Men Do

must feel good as fuck to curse a prince for being rude to you while you were larping as an old woman for no reason
Hey sometimes I like being an old crone it's enrichment for any magical user. If I get to curse a Prince for being rude to me it's just a bonus
reminder to all disabled people that you’re allowed to tell people “i can’t do that” about stuff you can ‘technically’ do but which harms you or requires a period of recovery or preparatory rest etc. you don’t have to explain the complex nuances of your condition to anybody who demands it. i’ve found it’s honestly better to give the least amount of info about your symptoms unless you trust a person a lot. you hold the power over your health information. you choose whether or not to share the details of your condition with people who might not understand.
