Back on the grind with @2026-book-bingo !! So far I have 5 down (which may be rejigged slightly as I keep reading but I'm happy with them for now). Very enjoyable mix so far!
Main Character isn't human: Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. I had read another Ishiguro book a few years ago and really enjoyed it + this came recommended to me. It wasn't my favourite but I still found some of the themes and questions it raised quite interesting. The main character, Klara, is an Artificial Friend.
2025 award winner: Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins. This book was voted Goodreads Best young adult fantasy/science fiction book. When I tell you I loved this book I absolutely loved it. The connections between the characters were just so well done and it was beautifully tragic. My favourite read of the year so far!
Blurb Buddies: Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent. The blurb buddy of Andrea Mara (who will be on the board very soon) and I really enjoyed this story! If you're looking for a book that starts out as a murder 'mystery'/investigation and ends as a claustrophobic horror tale, this is perfect. Lydia is such an interesting character who I loved to hate.
2026 debut author: Half His Age by Jeanette McCurdy. Making her fiction debut this year, this was a really interesting and well written book. She did such an excellent job narrating a growing discomfort and the failure of those around her.
Science fiction: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison. This was actually recommended to me by one of my students and I really enjoyed it! A nice quick read.

Librarian/Bookseller Recommended: Such A Nice Girl by Andrea Mara. I'm always a sucker for Mara's books so when I saw her newest work was recommended by bookshop staff I was THRILLED. Such a good thriller with some super dramatic twists, but still feels grounded and realistic. I highly recommend if you like mysterious thrillers.
This book also serves as the other half of the blurb buddies prompt, as Liz Nugent was a recommended author from this book :)
Literary Fiction: Ordinary Saints by Niamh Ní Mhaoileoin. Once I got started with this book I absolutely devoured it in about 2 days 😅. Following a lesbian woman who's late brother is set to be canonised as a saint by the church, it's such an interesting and well written exploration of the role of the church in Ireland and different relationships with religion (especially focusing on the failures of the Irish church to women and queer people). Such a beautiful and interesting story that I really enjoyed.
Next up is my pink cover once I can get my audiobooks back and probably my romance novel !!
