my ponysona 💛 starling rose!
Timelapse of a sketch for a future traditional pet portrait! I like to lay them out digitally to be able to make quick adjustments to the composition.
This is important.
This is what people are.
We want to be useful, and we want to make people happy
Pay attention to this.
Motherfucker effortlessly whipped out a balloon animal while talking about entropy and looking like a regular contributor to the Washington Post. I wish him nothing but the best in life
Woo. Billionaires are fighting
grief is so crazy like what if i forget what her laugh sounds like. does she know i loved her. i miss her so much. i catch myself doing things she used to do. i wish i could call her. i miss her so much. i do a crossword puzzle. i cry while washing the dishes. does she know i loved her? my heart feels like a hummingbird. i miss her so much. what if i forget what her laugh sounds like. what if i forget.
i talked ab this feeling in therapy yday and my therapist asked me, “would it really be so bad if your memories changed? if they softened and faded or looked different over time? why does that frighten you so much?” and i said, “i don’t want the love to disappear.” and she looked at me for a long moment and then she said, “it won’t. it doesn’t work that way. even if the memories soften or change, it doesn’t mean the love does. that love keeps going backward in time, forever, because you love her still. all is not lost.” i just thought i would share that in case it resonated w anyone else too.
In honor of Day of the Dead, here’s a repost of my comic about the San Francisco Columbarium and the man who spent 26 years restoring it.
This comic originally appeared on Medium at The Nib. Go check out my other work there.
Emmitt and the Columbarium.
There’s this guy in town who owns this little house, and a while back he rescued a street dog that was going to get put down. Turned out she was pregnant.
Problem is, he has mental health & drug issues and couldn’t afford to get them all spayed & neutered, so now there are 6 grown bitches with 15 puppies total, and they’ve dug under his fence in multiple places but he can’t afford to fix it so they go roaming all around town. (When I say can’t afford it, I mean his house is currently running on a generator because he can’t afford his electric bill.) He’s also a day laborer so he cannot take multiple full days off work to take them to the vet an hour away. He’s in a really rough spot.
He’s not a bad person. He’s just overwhelmed.
And this little conservative town with 6 churches for 300 people, have they tried to help their neighbor? Have they adopted the puppies he’s been trying to give away? Have they offered resources?
NOPE! All they wanna do is talk shit about him and complain about the dogs but never lift a finger of their own. And they come to his house to yell at him and cuss him out about the dogs, which does not exactly engender in him a cooperative attitude, as you might imagine.
So after a while of this going on, my mom gets fed up with all the NIMBY bullshit and starts talking to the guy, because she’s done animal rescue for 20-odd years and has Connections. He’s resistant at first, but when he realizes she’s not being an asshole to him on account of his addiction or the dogs, he decides to let her help.
She gets to work organizing and networking. Finds a non-profit that will cover vaccinations, spay/neuter, and flea treatments for all the dogs. Talks the next-door neighbor into paying for materials to fix the fence, since this guy can do the work of it himself. Gets him in touch with another non-profit that will adopt out the adult dogs.
Less than 2 weeks after she decided to do something, all puppies have been to the vet, 10 puppies and 4 adult dogs have been adopted out, and the second non-profit is coming by next week to pick up the remaining 7 dogs to ship them out for adoption.
I’ve learned a lot of things from my mom—some good, some bad—but I think the most important positive message she lives as an example of is this: sometimes, when something needs done and no one else is willing, you gotta stand up and say “I’ll do it.”
The most mind-blowing revelation I received on this lesson happened to me when I was in college.
I was driving along a mountain road with a person I kinda knew in the passenger seat (like a roommate of a roommate or something). The road was very narrow, very twisty-turny, steep cliffs on both sides. I came around a blind curve to see a huge tree branch in the road. I managed to swerve just in time to avoid it, and also not veer the car into the sheer cliff face going up on the left, or of the sheer cliff face going down on the right.
"That's so dangerous. Someone should move that." I said.
"You're someone." said my passenger.
I very slowly pressed the brakes, my car slowly rolling to a stop as what he'd said started to sink in to my brain.
It had never occurred to be before, in all my life, that I could be the "someone" who could fix the thing. Not ever.
It was dangerous to stop here. If another car came, they could easily hit me, as it was a blind curve. We talked about it, decided it was worth the risk to possibly save a life, and we quickly ran to the branch and moved it to the side as best we could, then hurried back to the car.
It changed my life. After that, every time I have the thought "Someone should _____", I now hear that voice. I'm 'someone'. Now I evaluate whether I'm able to do something about a situation- that doesn't mean I always can! Sometimes I truly don't have the energy, knowledge, or time or money to fix something. But I should at least think about doing it myself- consider that I could, and weigh the options, which I never did before that moment.
Even if you don't play this game and know nothing about it I want to see if you can read what these cards do, figure out what my strategy is going to be, and tell me how much you would hate it
As an old MTG player:
SWEET JESUS
For those of you who would like to understand without looking up rules:
MTG abilities work in a stack order. So as you play cards, activate abilities they "stack" up and then resolve down from the top.
Here, we start with replication, then creakwood, then doubling season, then lives, then vigor. So in essence you achieve the following by essentially going backwards:
1) Double your tokens made, and the counter placed on things (x2 tokens x2 counters)
2) double your tokens (x4 tokens x2 counters)
3) double your tokens and counters again (x8 tokens x4 counters)
4) copy another nonland permanent an make a token of it (target creakwood to now have 2 creakwoods)
5) creakwood X2 now create (16) 1/1 worms, that become (16) 3/3 worms.
6) each turn you repeat, increasing the number of worms you are generating, as well as their attack and health. OR occasionally target on of the enchantments (which are permanent non-land cards) to further increase how many worms you have.
Ideally imo, id target creakwood at least once because extra attack and health for worms, but also because its initially 2 activations of summoning worms which, with the base X8 worms, will easily overwhelm your opponent. Targeting an enchantment after simply raises your worms numbers exponentially from there. (X16, x32, x64) and that's assuming you don't kill them outright. Unless they have flying creatures, you can block (almost) anything they throw at you, and the swarm will be so large that they will likely never have enough ways to block your worms from devouring the measly 20 life points they have :^3
I have a somewhat similar combo involving a hydra (comes i to play with X 1/1 counters for each mana spent to play it, pay i think 4 to double it's counters), a card that makes two cards deal damage to eachother, and honest nest (creates a 1/1 flying death touch ((instakill to creatures)) for each point of damage it takes) hehehee..... people did not like my angry buzzing friends~
@asteroidtroglodyte i feel like you'd appreciate this post to
Anyway, after you wipe the floor with me with that strategy, I’m just gonna sideboard in a few of these for a Counterspell:
Token have a cmc of 0. Just sayin.
This just makes me think of my selesni deck from around gate crash XD
And the fact that I have almost as many tokens as other cards in my collection bc I love collecting all the different art for em~
Now, granted, that would work great to vounter massive swarms of tokens, but your only delaying the inevitable XD
Oh are we talking about magic card combos?! I HAVE A FUNNY ONE.
So. I have a Commander deck that my friends call 'The 2009 Housing Crisis'. It's a Simic greed deck that has 29 lands.
Meet Ivy, my Commander. Pretty normal stuff. Just cheats some buffs onto herself, right?
Meet my 'backup' commander, and Ivy's funny partner: Adrix and Nev. They double the tokens I create. Because Simic is Simic, I can sometimes have this guy out on turn 2 or 3, immediately after Ivy.
So let's make some tokens. I cast this on Adrix and Nev, and Ivy copies it onto herself, making two nonlegendary copies of Ivy and A&N.
Note. Nonlegendary copies.
Let's start copying the nonlegendary copies! (note: this is only SOME of the copy shit I have in the 2009 Housing Crisis.)
Even a single copy (which can be affordable turn 4 if I get a strong land curve) after Double Major creates 16 Ivies and 8 A&Ns, bringing the total of nonlegendary Ivies to 18 and nonlegendary A&Ns to 10 (+1 for the originals.)
And then the next time I fire up the photocopier...? Let's just run through the math.
I have 18 nonlegendary ivies and 11 A&Ns. Thus every copy I make is actually 2048 copies. And each nonlegendary Ivy copies the source of the token copies. Resulting in the board being flooded with 36864 new Ivies.
And I have counterspells and mass hexproof and the like to protect this too.
This deck is called the 2009 housing crisis because there's too little land, too many creatures, and I'm furiously cheating to buy far more mana value than I should have.
My friends hate it.
Oh, I also have this for insult to injury btw, if the game somehow doesn't end by the hand of a swarm of thousands of Ivies.
4 million worms I understand but thats too many Ivy the Fairy :(
Idk man it’s so easy to get bogged down in all the bullshit online but when my then-6 year old cousin found out I was trans he said “ok” then corrected my grandma when she misgendered me. I was once the third between a gay man and a lesbian. Two lesbians once invited me back to their place when I presented as a man. I met an AMAB nb butch who looked strikingly to outsiders like a cis man and it was one of the more sapphic experiences I’ve had. I nervously wore a boydyke shirt to pride and got 3 different cis-looking femme folks tell me they loved my shirt. I once told a trans group at a protest that any pronouns were fine for me and one person said “wow, I’m impressed and intimidated by people like that. I don’t know that I could be that chill with pronouns.” I once told a GNC friend I wished I could wear a type of “opposite” gender clothing after I had already transitioned and so it would be associated with my AGAB and he said “You could just do it.” I’ve had cishet men fight cops for me before. The first time I had a doctor ask me if my name was different than what was on my forms I had to try not to cry. Last week, a phone call with a doctor’s office where I am generally cis passing asked unprompted if my name listed is what I want to be called. It touched me then too. I told a lesbian friend once I felt like my attraction to men AND women both felt gay. She said “makes sense.” And we moved on. I go by different pronouns in different circles. I’ve had gay women love my facial hair. I’ve had gay men like my tits. It’s all out there, I promise. It can be hard to find it but I promise there is community like you and community who likes you. And it’s more messy and beautiful than tumblr discourse makes it out to be.
These are from the last 8 hours only. And not all of them.

Oh, Charles. The hubris. Honey. You had to know this was a possibility. Why would you tempt Apollo like that.
I love how we don't even need Apollo to be captioned, it's just "he's holding a dodgeball and looks Greek statue, of COURSE it's Apollo delivering the gift of prophecy unto unsuspecting tumblr users"
