the act of sex can be arousing in and of itself. a person can be sexually aroused without being sexually attracted to the person they are having sex with. you’re making a lot of false associations, taking them to be true, and using them as if they’re a valid argument against the existence of sex favorable asexuals. also, if you have statistics, i’d love to see a source.

i was babysitting my niece today and, as yall know, i do not shave my body hair. well, she was sitting inside my crossed legs, pulled on my leg hair, and asked why it was there. at first, i thought it was a funny question, typical for how blunt she is. but this is the first time she's seen me in shorts, and she's never asked her dad that question.

then i really though about it, and i had a huge revelation: whether conscious or subconscious, her brain has identified a pattern that the men around her are hairy but the women aren't. my body hair isn't normal to her because i'm a girl. she is three years old.

this is how gender roles and beauty standards continue on to new generations. children are very perceptive and very curious, and they notice everything. they internalize the patterns around them from a very early age, despite not understanding why just yet.

i explained to her that the hair on my legs grows just like the hair on her head. that it's a normal part of growing up for boys and girls. while she doesn't understand the concept of shaving yet, i wanted her to know that it's normal to have hairy legs.

rejecting these stereotypes is so much bigger than just yourself. little girls will see you and learn that girls can exist in many different forms. it's not just leg hair—it's a teaching moment, an act of protest, a threat to beauty standards that perpetuate female subjugation.

I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like you’re not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. You’re not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. You’re not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. You’re not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

I just wish sometimes more space was held for the complicated feelings that come along with being gay. So often it is either you accept it or you don’t. You have internalised homophobia or you don’t.

But life isn’t that simple.

I love my girlfriend. I have what I believe to be a very healthy, equal and secure relationship filled with love and laughter. I accept I’m a lesbian. I feel joy in being a lesbian. I think I have the privilege to experience a type of intimacy not many others do.

But I also feel the absence of normality in my life. I see straight couples and feel like I’m on the outside of society. I feel lonely even when I’m around others. I see so clearly what my life could have looked liked had I been born differently. I’m stuck in a constant debate between people over what my personhood means. I don’t always feel safe or confident to show my love. I don’t know a lot of people like me. I’m constantly having to dismantle things in my brain which is good but something I’ve been forced to do.

I’m allowed to experience both things. I’m allowed to look at my girlfriend and feel so much love and gratitude. I’m allowed to turn my head and see a straight couple and feel lonely and sad and like an easier life would have awaited me had I been slightly different. I can’t appreciate the lessons and growth being gay has put me through while also mourning the easy ignorance I could have had.

This can all be true at once.

the actual pride month rundown

- marsha p. johnson repeatedly identified as a gay man and drag queen and survived into an era where the language did already exist if he chose to identify as transsexual. he explicitly stated that he was not transsexual and claimed that all transsexual people were also homosexual.

- sylvia rivera did identify as a transsexual woman (and made disparaging speeches about lesbians). she was not an ally to lesbians. lesbians and transwomen have not always been allies.

- neither of them were there when the stonewall riots began, according to marsha’s own testimony. sylvia was sleeping off a drug trip on a park bench, and by the time marsha arrived at stonewall, the riots were already in full swing.

- storme delarverie, a mixed black gender-nonconforming lesbian and drag king, may have been the one who incited the stonewall riots. she never identified as a transman despite surviving into an an era where the language was made accessible to do so. accounts differ as to who started the riots.

- stonewall was not a special haven for trans people and drag artists, it was just some bar where gay people met up. by all accounts, it wasn’t even a good bar.

- pride as a festival and parade was invented by gay men, lesbians, and bisexual people. fred sergeant is one of those gay men, and he has been beaten (in recent years, as an elderly man) by trans people and their allies due to his views on medical transition. non-homosexual trans people were unheard of in this era.

- this is just united states history, and not even the beginning of gay rights activism in the united states alone. the rest of the world didn’t necessarily base its gay rights activism on stonewall.

Game companies hate emulation, but none of them seem to understand that a lot of us would just buy ROMs from them directly if we could. I don't want a fifth remake of Final Fantasy IV, I want to pay five bucks for the 3MB file you already made bank with thirty years ago. Nobody who wants to play something for the purpose of retro gaming is going to consider a $40 remake as the alternative option, and we're certainly not going to let the original dissappear. They're crying about opportunity cost for a product they're not even selling.

op i know you're probably talking about like, video games, etc, but this is also critical for research science - my lab has so much abandonware, either because the company's out of business, or the company decided to not maintain it, and it's a fucking nightmare. we have two windows 95 computers that are CRITICAL for performing experiments/data analysis because the software needed is abandonware. one of the main roles for a guy in my lab is to maintain these little dinosaurs because if they go out, we lose access to ~20 years of raw data for research. part of why is that these companies also make their own file types, and make it difficult-to-impossible to convert those file types without their specific software. by habit, i convert all research files to more generic versions (txt, pdf, tif, etc) so that i minimize risk of losing my shit, but some stuff can't be converted.

for example, we have a microscope that is perfectly functional, good microscope, but its software is abandonware because the company refused to maintain it. the company is still in business, still makes essentially the exact same software, but they made all of the old tech incompatible with new software to force people to buy the new microscope tech. it would cost a quarter million dollars to replace this microscope. this perfectly good microscope.

so like, i know a lot of people look at the original post here and go "well op just wants old video games to play" (which is valid! games companies should not be able to push shit to abandonware and then close it off) but also this is critical for like. biomedical research. if y'all had any idea how much basic infrastructure built on science relies on shit that is technically abandonware, you would probably be horrified.

Employees and developers working on Magic: The Gathering Arena say they were hired with promises of remote flexibility, so they bought homes and built lives around those assurances. But they say they are now being told they may need to relocate to Washington state — or effectively lose their jobs.

Those concerns are a major reason why a supermajority of workers on the Arena team are attempting to unionize with the Communications Workers of America, under the banner United Wizards of the Coast. The group publicly launched its campaign on April 27, calling on Wizards of the Coast and parent company Hasbro to voluntarily recognize the union by May 1.

WotC has still refused to recognize the union and has escalated to sending organizers letters directly to their homes about how unionizing is a bad idea. Luckily, our United Wizards are educated, organized, and agitated and the form letter from Hasbro was as laughable as it was threatening.

They also do this thing where they take a single line from a diary of a 19th century woman saying something like "my life would be easier if I had been born a man" and take it is proof that she was definitely transgender and trans people have always existed. Yet they will also look at a detrans person who got a formal diagnosis of gender dysphoria and fully medicalised themselves and lived as a trans person for 20 years, and they will say that this person was never actually trans. Almost as if there isn't really a consistent definition for what "trans" even is.
