I got a weird fucking story about pc troubleshooting and I need to share this.
Important context for this; I use a usb port extender.
So my mouse was randomly disconnecting and reconnecting a second later, it happens frequently. I tested different ports on the extender, same issue. But it never affected anything else plugged into the usb port extender. So I figured it had to be the mouse, right?
I checked for wire damage and moved around the cord and wiggled the mouse usb plug. None of that recreated the issue with anywhere near enough consistency to be indicative that was it.
So maybe the software? Nope. I updated that several times, reinstalled it, I restarted my pc. None of that fixed it.
I gave up for a while after that, because I never considered the extender itself. Because nothing else was affected.
Today I was troubleshooting again. I noticed that moving my pc recreated the issue. Which was really odd, because why would the mouse be affected by that when it wasn't directly plugged in?
I decided to try more, swapped the mice, different usb ports for the mice, same issue. The I unplugged the mouse, and realized the disconnect noise still played when I moved the pc.
I unplugged everything from the extender, and repeated what caused the issue. Still the disconnect noise. I tested different usb ports on the pc. Still the noise. I plugged the mouse directly into the pc and there was no issue with the mouse by then.
So it was the usb extender... But why does it only disconnect the mouse?
Both mice were the same brand. But the keyboard that wasn't disconnecting is also the same brand.
I'm incredibly confused as to what issue it is truly having, but I thought the story might be amusing.
If anyone knows what may have happened plsss tell me bc I am so curious!
