cant stop thinking abt this bit from a psa about activated charcoal flushing your medications from your system
On a serious note, activated charcoal has been known to flush any meds out of some one system to please be cautious.
do u think omegaverse acknowledges covid-19 and the generation of people who permanently lost their sense of smell like how are they all scenting each other now is the omegaverse economy in shambles
actually pheromone sensing works differently from normal olfaction, since humans in our world donât have a functioning vomeronasal organ (VNO), we donât have any data on how covid-19 would affect a functioning VNO in omegaverse AUs
Actually there is evidence that covid probably would affect the VNO and it stands to reason would accordingly impair its function. Briefly:
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes covid, can only infect cells expressing a certain protein called ACE2
ACE2 is expressed widely in nasal cavity epithelial cells but not in olfactory sensory neurons.Â
Seo et al. (2021) studied potential nasal targets for SARS-CoV-2 using golden hamsters as a model organism (commonly used as a proxy for humans in virology studies)
They found ACE2 expression in the main olfactory bulb epithelium (MOE, your ânormalâ nose organ)Â as well as the vomeronasal organ (VNO)
Several cell types in the VNO were able to be infected and they also found significant inflammatory activity (macrophage activation, apoptotic cells, etc)Â
The specifics of how covid actually causes dysosmia are not known for sure but epithelial damage by local inflammatory immune responses likely plays a role, especially because sensory neurons themselves are not affected (Bilinska, & Butowt, 2020). Therefore I would suggest a potential similar effect of VNO dysfunction as we see in the main olfactory bulb
From Seo et al.: âConsidering the function of the VNO, infection and subsequent pathologic changes may affect the behavior of Syrian hamstersâ
If it stands to reason that omegaverse individuals have functioning VNOs similar to members of the animal kingdom, then it is more than reasonable to conclude that covid may cause them to lose not only their main olfactory function, but also their VNO function as well

In conclusion the omegaverse economy IS in shambles.
OP this is very well-written but im still hung up on how you came onstage dressed as a clown only to tear off the costume and reveal yourself as a biologist
my dad just exploded into laughter out of nowhere and told me âimagine the lion king but with sea lionsâ he has been chuckling about it for 5 straight minutes now
apparently it doesnât matter that iâve told him 10 times itâs the monkey who raises the newborn and not the lion himself, this is the scene he has been imagining
âhe canât raise his kid over his headâ
I want it

we find it genuinely insane that we live in a world in which saying we are morally opposed to genocide is somehow a controversial or divisive thing.

I like stories where a normal human child is being raised by a sinister supernatural being who is totally malevolent except when it comes to their kid. Those are so much better than the âkids are scaryâ changeling type horror movies.
Like a perfectly well-adjusted well-mannered friendly child that is like âThis is my dad, Surazal. He comes out of the mirrors in dark rooms. He makes really good blood pudding but heâs bad at playing catch. Most people canât see his corporal form but I can because he says I have special eyes.â
âMom says that you can stay over but you have to promise not to leave my room between midnight and 1 am. You can play Mario Cart with me! But you have to knock on every closed door in the house before entering just because dad might be in there and if you look upon his visage without drinking the holy fruit juice, you might go crazy or something. Also dad is really excited I have a new friend and heâs going to to make hardtack and mystery stew for us! Youâll love it!â
In high school the kid gets a friend that is an amateur demonologist who initially befriends them in hopes of exorcizing their house but ends up becoming buddies with Surazal too because they crave parental affection.
Surazal stands at the end of the vast dark hallway and says âYou Too Have Special Eyes, Little One. You Can See Me Without Being Taken By The Madness. Within You, I Sense Great Turmoil And Sadness. In My Younger Years, I Would Have Exploited The Sadness As Weakness In Your Very Soul. I Would Have Worn Your Skin Like A Mask And Run Through The Village Streets, Supping Blood From Every Man I Encountered. But Now I Have No Use For Woe. Perhaps You Would Like To Watch Beetlejuice In The Family Room With My Daughter While I Prepare Cupcakes. I Am Sensing You Have A Fondness for Red Velvet.â

The differences in the delivery of the teddy bear keychain scene between OG4 and 4R kills me.
In the OG, he seems sorta... irritated. The "very cute" is very blunt and he's holding the ring of the keychain like the teddy bear is going to bite him or something. The look on his face too makes me cackle, he does not look amused by the fact that the keys were placed on a teddy bear keychain.
But in the remake he holds it in the palm of his hand and then gives a sorta small smile before delivering the "cute" line, which comes off more like an observation than a sarcastic remark.
It's nothing huge, but the difference in the execution of the scene and the delivery of the line I think really highlights the difference between OG4's characterization & writing and the remake's in a subtle way. 4R Leon seems to genuinely think the teddy bear charm is cute while OG4 seems lowkey disgusted lmfao. I hope 4R Leon got to keep that charm.
What was Krauser doing with that worn-ass picture of Leon?
See, that's what I'd like to know too haha. Leon's covered in blood, and he's still injured post-Raccoon City, so I would assume the picture was probably a mug-shot of sorts taken by the government after he'd been captured. As a result, the picture was probably from Leon's dossier. As for why Krauser had it then and was carrying it around.... I think the popular running theory is that he had a thing for Leon. Especially with him calling Leon pretty boy, talking about his pretty blue eyes, and carrying a picture of him around (because keep in mind Krauser did not know Leon would be coming to save Ashley, so Krauser just... already had this picture), it seems he feels something for Leon. That's my theory at least.
Today I found out that yarners think crocheting socks is subversive and controversial and I justâŠon one hand, why the fuck not, I guess yarners are allowed to have their controversies, but on the other, how much time do you have in your FUCKIN DAY??
My main concern is how they would feel but Maggie u know yarn fandom gotta think about something while knitting five miles of stockingnette for a sweater
Look, you canât just leave it at that, why is it subversive and controversial? *gets popcorn*
I mean, Iâm taking this on good faith, and Iâm not saying this is my own personal belief. I believe in all crafts.Â
ButâŠthe structure of the stitches and the resulting fabric is pretty different between crochet and knitting. You get different effects between them, which lends themselves to different crafts. And none of the effects of (most) crochet stitches lend themselves naturally to socks. Youâre (usually) going to end up with something either stiff and bulky, or full of holes that will Not Feel Good to walk on. Whereas knitted socks will justâŠBE elastic and comfortable.
Sure you CAN do it. And there are people and patterns that do it well!!
But MOST crochet socks are a bit like calling this a bicycle
I mean⊠Okay? But people are going to Talk.
But this is BABY controversy, this is nothing. You havenât even touched on the good shit like RHSS or that time the Olympic Committee dissed us.
Iiiinteresting. So one of those âjust because you CAN doesnât mean you SHOULDâ things.
Also I know very little about the yarn fandom except for that bit where a woman had to fake her death and had a nervous breakdown over selling homespun/dyed yarn so like, I already have big expectations.
Was that the one that âdiedâ of leukemia or the one that âdiedâ of lupus, or the one that overdosed?
From what I know of the narrative as it was described to me, I want to say the one that overdosed, but I am intrigued and vaguely concerned that there are multiple distinct individuals the above situation could apply to.
hey umm, what the fuck
the fake deaths thing: indie yarn dyer gets popular, gets overwhelmed by orders, canât refund money because of shitty bookkeeping, decides faking online death is the only way out.
iâm sure some of them are unintentional rather than premeditated scammers but theyâre all still thieving assholes who shouldnât be running businesses and need to give all the money back.
the olympics commitee: ravelry, well-known knitting (fiber arts in general) site, held a contest they called the âravelympicsâ to drum up olympic support then get a cease-and-desist letter for copyright infringement, and the letter said that calling it that âdenigrates the true nature of the Olympic Gamesâ and was âdisrespectful to our countryâs finest athletesâ
except, you know, ravelry had like 2 million users who all, by nature of ravelry being a website, have basic tech literacy. the social media backlash was so bad that the olympics board had to make 2 official apologies because the first wasnât good enough.
RHSS: Red Heart Super Saver is cheap Walmart-level yarn. some people hate it because it used to be just really fucking awful and they havenât bothered updating their opinions. some people hate it because they hate non-natural yarns. some people hate it because theyâre yarn snobs(which, btw, comes in two flavors: the disdainful assholes and the people who just donât see the point if you have the money and donât indulge yourself). a lot of people defend it because itâs cheap and widely locally available and honestly not that bad after a wash and some fabric softener.
crocheted socks: exactly what kaitoukitty said. people who crochet socks tend to either be new crocheters who are not aware crochet is not the best medium for socks or experienced crocheters who are pushing the boundaries of the medium.
babies on fire: i canât believe weâre talking about yarncraft controversies and no one mentioned babies on fire. thatâs my favorite controversy.
so when deciding what material to make baby blankets out of, in addition to considerations like softness, ease of washing, and allergy concerns quite a lot of people like to consider what would happen to the baby if the blanket was set on fire. yes, really.
wool has the problem of hand-wash only blankets for a new mother (superwash wool exists but thatâs a whole ânother paragraph), allergy concerns, and also real fucking expensive if you want quality not-itchy-on-baby-skin wool. but pro-wool-blanket people insist that because wool actually resists being set on fire pretty well and also can self-extinguish, itâs the only sensible choice.
acrylic on the other hand is cheap and you can throw it in the washing machine, and while bad quality acrylics might be stiff and plastic-y theyâre not itchy, but if it gets set on fire it will melt onto the babyâs skin. pro-acrylic people insist that if your blanket is on fire, you probably have bigger problems than what the blanket is made of.
wow I didnât expect such a detailed response. thank you!
Fiber Arts Just Be Fucking Like That.
what hte FUCK
A couple more from Ravelry:
It became the first website to ban pro-Trump content. This occurred after a user reported a pro-Trump pattern maker for I believe hate speech? For some reason Ravelry didnât have an anonymous reporting feature at the time, so the pattern maker found out and sent followers to harass the user. This caused Ravelry to 1) make the report feature anonymous 2) say âfuck it, you guys are all assholes, Trump supporters are banned now.â
Disney went after a pattern maker on the site and issued a DCMA takedown for a crochet Grogu amigurumi pattern (known as Baby Yoda at the time). This prompted a huge backlash from the users who posted their own modified Baby Yoda patterns en-masse for no other reason than to spite Disney and their lawyers. The entire front page of Ravelry was nothing but Baby Yoda at one point.
If I ask my mother she could probably give me more. These are just what I remember off the top of my head. I donât knit or crochet (I do cross-stitch and donât really interact with the wider community) but my mother runs a small yarn dyeing business and has been part of the community on the Internet for a LONG time before that so I get all the juicy details on the drama.
Itâs worth noting that the founders of Ravelry, Cassidy and Jessica Forbes (both women) are married to each other; and Cassidy is trans.
I had no idea this was the drama I needed on my dash today
Itâs nearly Cozy Things Knitted By My Mother season!!!!
(via @scoutdoesstuff)
1) Yeah Iâm not necessarily the biggest fan of the change but the timing and number of TERFs make it either the TERFs co-opted an existing complaint made by people who liked ravelry but had physical issues with the new site, or it was entirely FABRICATED by TERFs to try to make the founders problematic bc one of them is trans.
2) oooo now I want to try making a slipper in Tunisian crochet because youâre right, it makes a much flatter, knit-like fabric that might be actually quite pleasant!
3) I assume itâs a collective word for both knitters and crotcheters, since both work with yarn but their crafts are quite different. Itâs the easiest most intuitive word to refer to both groups at once.
I donât understand⊠I grew up in crocheted socks⊠I mean, they were more like house slippers because we didnât really wear them inside shoes, but still. Whatâs wrong with ë§ ëČì ?
I love that this looped back after all that to absolve the crocheted socks.
Warm up for today
