This is what genocide looks like. These are the 2913 Palestinian children killed by the Israeli military this month, as of Thursday, October 26. As the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza intensify, we recognize with horror and grief that this death toll is already inaccurate.

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946) • JIMMY STEWART as George Bailey and LIONEL BARRYMORE as Mr. Potter
wait WHAT 😳 i mean that feels accurate but still…. WHAT.
here’s the official fbi memo about it! you can view the whole document here
the fbi presented these “findings” to mccarthy’s house unamerican activities committee (huac) in an attempt to get it’s a wonderful life pulled from theaters but huac decided not to take any action
The funny thing is the blacklist probably wouldn’t have worked anyway because this movie bombed in theaters and bombed HARD. It was an ABSOLUTE flop.
The reason it’s become the American classic it is and the only reason anybody even knows about it is because it fell into the public domain in 1974.
As nobody needed to pay ANYONE for the rights to broadcast the film, literally every single American TV station played this movie, sometimes multiple times, during Christmas in 1974, and then the following Christmases. It not only became a staple of the Christmas season in the US, but it was only then that many people who truly loved the film first became exposed to it at all.
Quote director Capra in 1984 to the Wall Street Journal"
“It’s the damnedest thing I’ve ever seen. The film has a life of its own now, and I can look at it like I had nothing to do with it. I’m like a parent whose kid grows up to be President. I’m proud … but it’s the kid who did the work. I didn’t even think of it as a Christmas story when I first ran across it. I just liked the idea.”
Trudeau correcting himself from saying “ceasefire” honestly pissed me off so hard today.
Grow a spine you fucking coward! Stand with Palestine!
Hey— Serious post for a second
The House of Commons in Canada has initiated a petition for a ceasefire in Palestine. Canadian followers and Canadian Tumblr users as a whole— please take a few seconds to stop and sign this.
After you sign, you'll need to confirm your signature through the email you provided on the form. It may not come through immediately, but make sure you do so, or your signature will not count.
Here's the link to the petition.
It's so weird talking to people who's view of "here's the way life is for everyone" is shattered as soon as they talk to someone with disabilities (physical, mental illness, any). Like you'll say you'll have a problem and instead of helping you they'll argue with you about how you're not actually facing that problem. Like,
Me: Hey, I'm really struggling to find a job and a part of it is my resume. I was depressed & psychotic during highschool so I didn't do anything to gain skills or achievements to put on my resume. I also don't have anyone to put as a reference. What can I do?
Them: You can add your skills, hobbies, clubs you're in, and different volunteer work you've done! You can also get your teacher as a reference.
Me: I already know what to put on a resume, my issue is that I don't have things that I can use. Also, I'm in my mid 20s so I don't know if I can put my highschool teacher as a reference.
Them: Well if you're a part of a church or an activity group, you could add that. Also, think of any projects you've worked on in the past.
Me: I already know you can put these things on a resume. I'm not looking for suggests of things I've already done, I'm looking for what I can do now if I haven't done anything.
Them: There's no way you didn't do anything during highschool?? What about some odd jobs you definitely did for extra money, like babysitting or mowing the lawn?
Me: I spent all of highschool either in modified classes or in bed doing nothing - not even hobbies, what about that do you not understand?
And then you talk to someone who's also disabled and they're like "Here's a bunch of jobs you can do from home that don't pay much but look good on a resume, here's some free online courses that also look good on a resume, here's how you can be making small amounts of money in the meantime, here's some things you can put besides a professional reference, and here are your rights if your future employer tries to take advantage of your disability - which you probably shouldn't tell them about unless you need accommodations."
And suddenly my will to continue trying returns!
c...can we maybe get some of those ideas in full? Pls?
Two other people asked as well so okay! Though this post will be rather long.
Freelance Jobs You Do From Home That Look Cool On A Future Resume
Please research any company before sign up with then. So many companies are scams and pay you way less than you deserve for your work. Go to r/freelancers and search to make sure nobody has had some horrid experiences. There's also usually reviews of a company on YouTube as well.
Transcribing - adding subtitles to videos for deaf and other hard of hearing people. You usually read a big instruction manual, do two or three tests to see how well you can follow the instruction manual, and then get an e-mail if you can work with them or not. Depending on where you sign up, you can also fill out which topics you're knowledable on and less likely to make mistakes on when transcribing.
Translating - same as transcribing, but now you're translating one language into another. I have not done this before, so I'd suggest talking to people who have.
Article Writing - there are different websites you can sign up to work for where someone sends in a request for an article about a certain topic, you can write that article, and if they like it they can purchase it from you. Some websites have a ranking system where the more good reviews your article gets, the more money you'll get paid.
Article Editing - you can also get payed to fix typos and reorganize an article (or list) if writing isn't your thing.
Top 10 Lists - There are different sites that will pay you to write 10 ten lists. They usually require a specific amount of words and have an author's guide on their site.
Graphic Designer - if you go to different generic freelance websites, you can often find people who are searching for someone to design logos for their company or banners for their websites. It helps if you have a portfolio as well.
Virtual Assistent - scheduling appointments, answering calls, and managing email accounts from your own home. I haven't done this one so again, do more research.
Small Amounts Of Money
Qmee - I've been using this app for awhile called qmee where you do surveys for money. Surveys usually pay anywhere in between 30 cents and 2 dollars, and they have a feature where if the survey asks you anything sketchy then you can report them. You can also cash out whenever, like you don't have to build up a certain amount. (If you aren't American, you may only get a couple surveys per day.) An extra 20 dollars a month isn't much but it's nice.
Fiverr - A website where you state your talents and you can take on other people's smaller projects for small amounts of money. A funny example is this YouTube skit where someone paid some people on fiverr to come up with a break-up letter. I believe you can also keep a portfolio for any projects you make during your freelance jobs on fiverr too.
Redbubble - this is where you can put different designs onto different types of clothing, notebooks, mugs, hats, etc. It helps if you have a design that's from a fandom, references a meme, or fufills a niche. You can also go to TeeSpring if you want to put multiple designs on one item, but you'd have to promote your items yourself as TeeSpring has this issue where you can't search for new stores who aren't already popular.
Test Products - once again, please research any company you're going to do this for. There are companies that will send you products for a week or two and ask for a report on how well it works, what you like/dislike, etc.
If You Don't Have Anyone To Put On Your Resume As References
Volunteer Somewhere - animal shelters, tutoring, soup kitchens, summer programs, public libraries, etc. If you're able to volunteer somewhere, you can ask the people there if you can use them as a reference.
Volunteer Online - you can also do online volunteer work if you're unable to do physical volunteer work. Here's a list of examples of online volunteer work which includes things like creating a large amount of thank-you cards, transcribing books into digital form, or answer texts or calls on a crisis line. This may be a better option due to covid.
Add Personal References - friends and family members do work (just don't list them as professional references). It's especially helpful if you've done a project for/with them as well.
Or don't add references at all - references look good on a resume, but unless you're writing a federal resume you kind of don't need them? If someone is interested in hiring you, they may ask if you have any references. You can just say "no, this is my first job" (if it is). They might ask why you haven't worked before, but you can just say that it's personal or private information. Or you can give a vague answer like dealing with family matters.
Once you have some, this is how you would format your references.
None of these are long term solutions and not everything will work out for everybody. These are just helpful suggestions I've received over the years!

NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg is a self proclaimed crafter. A week ago she made a stuffed dinosaur from scraps on the space station. The little T-rex is made form the lining of Russian food containers and the toy is stuffed with scraps from an old T-shirt. While many toys have flown into space, this is the first produced in space.

The shooting in Colorado will very obviously sanitized in order for America to ignore the terrifying problem it has with fascist terrorism. It was at a gay club, during a drag performance, during an event organized by a group presently being targeted by libsoftiktok for "grooming" teenagers by facilitating them exploring drag performance. After news broke of the shooting, libsoftiktok was still attacking the group on twitter. The perpetrator, of course, was a 22 year old man known to law enforcement, and was previously in deep shit for calling in bomb threats. The same story we always hear. Same one we've heard for years.
This is a part of a greater rising tide. Young men are being radicalized into acts of stochastic terror with increasing frequency. Not only does law enforcement have no interest in protecting our communities, they are often in the same circles as these terrorists, and agree with their actions. Other mass shootings have already demonstrated that police will not even protect their own communities. Public officials refuse this is a systemic issue being aggravated by sitting politicians who peddle conspiracy and hatred. Social media sites have zero concern for the charlatans creating the echo chambers and feedback loops which drive these alienated young men into the deranged mindset to inflict this kind of pain.
It isn't hopeless, of course. There are courses of action we can take, even if we can't directly change the system above us. Now is the time to discuss this trend as loudly and openly as we can in order to get to the core of the issue. Don't shut up about this kind of thing. We should probably be organizing large, visible actions. Act up, as it were. In the mean time, we also need to keep ourselves safe, as we find ourselves an outlaw class. Talk to one another. Protect eachother. Be sure to be active in your local communities, and establish ties between communities. We need to find those meaningful alliances again. Learn to defend yourself and others in any way you can, and encourage those around you to do the same. Yet, there is no need to panic. Only need to prepare and strengthen ourselves for what may possibly happen around us. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
If I have to make a Reddit I swear to god…
today my therapist told me that sometimes negative feelings like guilt, anxiety, self loathing, etc are like the hiccups. they’re uncomfortable, we don’t like them, there’s no way to turn them off; they can even be incapacitating for a while. we don’t always know where they came from or when they’ll go away, so sometimes instead of focusing on why we feel a certain way we need to get better at recognizing its temporary nature, keeping perspective, and enduring discomfort. i feel like a lot of self-improvement rhetoric is about pinpointing specific causes for negative thoughts/behaviors so you can eradicate them, but people with chronic mental illness really need to work on allowing themselves to experience these feelings without going into a downward spiral.
thank you for this
I want to think on this
I think this may help
Lol I conveniently have hiccups now
my therapist often reminds me that “why do i feel like this?” can sometimes be a dangerous question to ask yourself alone and leave you digging through all the times you’ve felt guilty/rejected/ashamed before. it’s easy to spiral that way if you’re not careful. with practice, i’ve started asking myself “what do i need to get through this?” the answers to that one are a bit more useful in the moment, and the shift has also helped me be kinder to myself when these feelings come up.
My therapist tells me that feelings are sometimes random blips of brain chemistry and literally do not have a “why”. To be determined to assign them a why can give them more weight and make them a bigger problem than they actually are.
Famous Jewish royalty and nobility as Disney Princesses:
Growing up, I loved Disney Princesses, but I never saw any representation of Jewish princesses. Which was a shame, because I grew up with stories of strong Jewish women, I just never got to see their stories in mainstream media. I have two younger sisters, and I wish they could grow up seeing just one Disney Princess from our culture and heritage. So, being an artist, I decided to take the five classic white princesses, and redesign them to be five strong Jewish royalty and nobility. I decided to represent a large swath of time periods and locations, just like Disney Princess stories cover different time periods and locations, and to celebrate the diversity of Jewish history. So, let's go!
Queen Esther
For Cinderella, I chose to depict Queen Esther, because they both share themes of concealing one's identity. Esther is the heroine of Megillat Esther, a book in the Tanakh. She was forced to become the wife of the Persian king Achashverosh, but because of it she was able to save the Jewish people from genocide at the hands of Haman. Queen Esther might be a "typical" choice, but I think that not many people truly appreciate her and her story, despite how well-known it is.
Qasmuna
For Belle, I chose the poet Qasmuna, because Belle is a studious woman, and Qasmuna was a scholar and a poet. Qasmuna was an Arabic-language Andalusian poet during the middle ages. Not much is known about her, but she is one of the very few recorded Jewish Arabic-language poets of her time. Some sources attribute her to having been the vizier Shmuel HaNagid (Samuel Ibn Nagrillah)'s daughter, making her the closest to royalty as was possible for a Dhimmi at the time. I depicted her wearing lavish clothing, but also wearing a yellow shawl and a gold calf necklace to signify her Dhimmitude.
Licoricia of Winchester
For Aurora, I chose to depict Licoricia of Winchester since Disney's Sleeping Beauty takes place in England. Licoricia was a 13th century English businesswoman and community leader. She funded and lent money to prominent gentile figures at the time, including King Henry III. She is considered one of the most influencial Jewish women in her time. She was murdured, possibly in a robbery, but her murderer had never been found or held accountable. I based her outfit off of the recently unvailed statue of her in Winchester, England.
Queen of Sheba
For Ariel, I chose to depict the Queen of Sheba, since they both traveled long ways to a different place. The Queen of Sheba is mentioned in the Tanakh and Apocrypha, as well as folktales. She traveled to the Kingdom of Israel to meet King Shlomo and test his wisdom. Many have attributed her to being the woman voice in Shlomo's Song of Songs. She was a powerful and wealthy leader, and almost managed to best Shlomo in knowledge. According to tradition, she converted to Judaism and travled back to Ethiopia and led her people towards Judaism.
Queen Shelmazion
For Snow White, I chose to depict Queen Shelamzion. Queen Shelamzion was one of the last independent Jewish rulers of Judea before the total Roman takeover. Roman sources absolutely smeared her name, likely because Shelamzion was a powerful Jewish woman who opposed the Roman occupation. However, Shelamzion was a good rular, who attempted to make peace among her people, and is credited with saving seventy sages from Roman slaughter. It is said that because of her righteousness, during her rule, it rained only on Shabbat so that farmers would not miss out on needed worktime due to the rain, since they weren't working on Shabbat anyway, and that the harvest in Judea were always bountiful.
I hope you learned something and appreciate my depictions of Jewish Disney Princesses :)
I have a ko-fi if you'd like to tip, but there's absolutely no obligation.
