red flags
calling the legitimate anger of oppressed people âdramaâ or âhateâ
referring to allocation of human rights as simply âpoliticsâ
referring to basic human empathy as âpolitical correctnessâ
the childlike refusal to admit mistakes and throwing a literal tantrum
âitâs just my opinionâ
happy lunar new year, friendly reminder that jimmy kimmel and ellen degeneres inviting marie kondo on to their show to âtidy upâ their writerâs rooms only to dismiss her advice, belittle her methods, make fun of her use of a translator, and act like ungrateful children in the face of her genuine attempts to help is literally the most basic form of Othering from white people. Itâs another form of commodification by white people of non-white cultures that is being willingly shared, and it doesnât get any less racist when it comes from âprogressivesâ, be they a liberal white woman or a âWokeâ news punditÂ
like sheâs already being attacked and villainised into this aggressive book-burning harpy by white people on twitter who thinks having a full bookshelf can substitute having a personality, and now mainstream network talk shows are coming after her as well.Â
I donât care if you think âthis is just how Degeneres/Kimmel does comedyâ, I donât care if they did it for laughs. The overall tone of their segment is to show their reaction; to show how ridiculous and childish they find the KonMari method. We get it, white liberals donât have time for wishy-washy Japanese mindfulness woo-woo and their enlightened views make them too rational to take seriously any other cultures that are based in spirituality and animism
Kimmel made a long, over-winded joke that deliberately put both Marie and her translator into an embarrassing situation, deliberately highlighting and mocking Marieâs lack of English, and then mocked the Shinto cultural background that Marieâs methods come from. Ellenâs writer acted as if Marie was going to overturn his office, then shoves Kim Kardashianâs ass into Marieâs face, then admit that heâs going âput everything back anywayâ after Maries leaves. Both of them act as if her âgreeting ritualâ was some form of Weird Hokey Japanese Gimmick.Â
White âprogressive liberal voicesâ are turning non-white cultures either into a commodity or into a joke without any self-reflection or foresight into the damage theyâre potentially doing. They take no care in the hurt that they as white comedians are sowing; in turning Marieâs traditional Japanese cultural values and contexts into a joke, theyâre making the act of othering and disrespecting non-white cultures more normative and easier to do. Their activism and political commentary is nothing but performative white bullshit.
When we share donât share our cultures, white people turn it into a hip commodity, then cry PC-gone-mad when we take offense. When we willingly share our cultures, it gets turned into a punchline. It doesnât matter if the dismissal and commodification come from someone wearing a MAGA cap or a white liberal icon; the lack of respect still stems from the same root of privilege.Â
and then look at how Hassan Minhaj treats Marie Kondo when she comes to her house and helps him orginise his office and daughters play room.
fucking yâall BETTER reblog that shit, all these whites did Marie Kondo so fuckin wrongÂ
Not a fan of âprudeâ being used to describe women who set very clear sexual boundaries and the culture which seeks to romanticize the pushing of these boundaries as somehow âsexually liberatingâ and not the coercion that it is.
Haha #TrustNoStanger. Didn't you know? High school is over, maybe you graduated physically but not mentally obviously. You and your snotty friends have successfully embarrassed yourselves. Tread lightly. But of course, Elle remains classy over the whole incident.
Last week, Elle Stanger photographed and shared an image of my friendâs nude body on her blog without consent or credit. Â When called out, she blamed the woman at first for ânot knowing the rulesâ, and then refused to issue an authentic apology when it turned out she was in the wrong.
I should mention how she purports to be a feminist, anti-rape activist but defended (and continues to defend) her male friend when he sexually assaulted someone in our community.
She once physically shoved a fellow dancer who tried to interject when Elle was bullying a coworker.
She has used words like f****t, Â r****d and the n-word casually and mocked fat women when she doesnât think anyone who cares is around.
She attacked my friendâs (non-sexual) interest in lolita fashion, called her lotlia dresses âitems of pedophiliaâ, and claimed those clothes could endanger and traumatize children. All this while claiming to be a sex-positive feminist.  She also kink-shames other womenâs kinks but brags about her own.
Or how she claims to be a sex work activist but inexplicably disagrees with and has lobbied against the only dancers in town who are suing their club for sexually violating and financially exploiting them.
There are so many other stories like these. Â There are too many small, private moments of personalized attacks and bullying to even list.
Trust me, we arenât the bad guys in this situation. Â I am not one to share my drama or interpersonal issues with someone publicly, so this a testament to how bad itâs gotten. Â Every single one of us was her friend until she lied, backstabbed, and bullied us out of her life. Â She has literally isolated herself from every close friend who used to trust and care about her by acting this way. Â After a solid 5 years, I and many others are just sick of it and weâre finally speaking out. Â
And let me say, everyone does hypocritical things. We all like to see ourselves as a better person than our actions sometimes reflect. Â Most people are continuously working towards being a better version of themselves but itâs a learning process. Â Hypocrisy is human. Â But this is a whole different level. Â She is actively hurting people in my community and then claiming simultaneous sainthood and victimhood.
She is a master manipulator and plays up this angelic public persona so she can make it look like anyone who calls her out is a jealous bully. Â She is skilled at making herself appear as the victim of any interaction, and I donât blame anyone outside of our social group, yourself included, for buying into it. Â But those of us whoâve experienced this side of her for years are tired of keeping it private and letting her get away with the way she treats us. Â The nude photo she took and shared without the subjectâs consent is just the straw that broke the camelâs back. Â Someone this privately toxic and publicly adored needs to be held accountable for the horrific way they treat people behind closed doors.
You donât have to believe what I just laid out. I really donât care either way.  All of this can be confirmed by many others. I just figure you should know what kind of person you are really defending when you make threats like âtread lightlyâ through the internet.
Who even IS this person? Is she like someone somewhat famous through media or? God she sounds awful on so many levels.
This is a post about Elleâs behavior during the legislative process. Â A lot of it many of you have read before, so itâs behind a cut. Â
For anyone interested in the history and reasoning behind the legislation, what BOLIâs powers actually are, what employee rights actually are and cover, and what the legislation will actually DO, for anyone who would like to know what needs to change and who needs to change it for us to ACTUALLY be independent contractors, or for anyone who would like to get involved in the struggle for stripper and sex worker rightsâincluding Elle!â thereâs a panel meeting on September 9th at 2pm, at the Graduate School of Social Work at PSU.
https://www.facebook.com/events/744641728991732/
There will be the original members of the NASW whose idea the bills were, labour lawyers, and a representative from BOLI. Â
And for anyone facing the new Deja Vu-style contracts that Elle and the cadre of club managers [claude da corsi, johnny, frank, deja vu] are trying to threaten people with, one of my lawyers says she would be happy to take on a case against them. Â Thatâs how flimsy and illegal they are. Â
Iâm not a tactful person, and this isnât a tactful post. I care passionately that Elle has been so involved in keeping information from people, I donât understand it and trying to understand why someone would do any of this makes me obsessive and frustrated to obnoxiousness, I know this.
But this is important information. Â And it needs to be known. Â We need to be able to trust each other as a community, trust our intelligence and information as much as we need to have each otherâs backs. Weâre hated, feared, discriminated against, and murdered. Â We need each other. Â
And if someone is spreading lies and hurting other people, we need to know that too.

i watched this https://www.facebook.com/strollpdx/videos/947107915677167/ live feed of a workersâ rights workshop and there was someone from the crowd consistently derailing the discussion and attacking the facilitator, and lo and behold, IT WAS ELLE. you can hear her start going in at minutes 14, 27, 47-50, and 57.Â
In case you need background about why sheâs a bully, not a credible source of information, and just generally not someone you should support, hereâs another example http://malbell.tumblr.com/post/130727328589/today-i-was-fired-from-a-club-because-elle-stanger
the more you know :)
I remember first learning that you can cry from any emotion, that emotions are chemical levels in your brain and your body is constantly trying to maintain equilibrium. so if one emotion sky rockets, that chemical becomes flagged and signals the tear duct to open as an exit to release that emotion packaged neatly within a tear. Everything made sense after learning that. That sudden stability of your emotions after crying. How crying is often accompanied by the inability to feel any other emotion in that precise moment. And it is especially beautiful knowing that it is even possible to experience so much beauty or love or happiness that your body literally canât hold on to all of it. So what Iâve learned is that crying signifies that you are feeling as much as humanely possible and that is living to the fullest extent. So keep feeling and cry often and as much as needed
SHIT WHAT
Also let yourself cry. It really is a biochemical release valve to dump out all the chemicals that make you feel stuff.
I honestly think one reason men in western culture have so many problems is that we donât let them cry, and literally their brains get stuffed with all this crap that doesnât have a release valve. Men, please cry. Youâll feel better. Itâs ok. You are not lesser for taking care of your health.
This is why tears from different emotions look different under an electron microscope. Theyâre literally made up of different things.Â
Happy tears are structurally different than sad tears than angry tears than overwhelmed tears etc.
I looked it up, cuz that tidbit was dope to me and..
Never would have known
Ah yes, the emotions: grief, change, onion, humor
Those images come from an interesting article through Smithsonian! They were taken by photographer Rose-Lynn Fisher around 2013.
The article does touch on the three different types of scientifically recognized tears as well! Psychic tears triggered by extreme emotions, basal tears to keep your cornea lubricated, and reflex tears due to irritation (like onion vapors). That being said, I need to cry more.
When somebody says that âa man likes to feel like a man,â all I hear is âA man likes to feel superior to you and itâs your job to make him believe it.âÂ
Someone said this to me once, that a man needs to feel like a man, I replied âwell Iâm not stopping himâ and had to watch this fragile creature try to explain to me that my strong personality could demean men.
Like, if I have to pretend you are a strong man and cater to that then clearly youâre not that strong dude.
This post has the most weapons grade dick energy ive ever seen.

âThe camera adds 10 poundsâ is a phrase of the past. Now people look better in their pictures than they do in person
When people say that the camera adds ten pounds itâs because cameras used in filmmaking/TV production have a wider focal length and therefore subjects look wider or bigger. Whereas cellphone cameras have a short focal length that makes subjects appear thinner or smaller.
Nowadays, with DSLRâs and a variety of lenses, we are able to depict a wide range of focal lengths by using one kind of camera.
So that is why most people on social media may seem to look thinner than they do in person (especially in selfies because the front facing camera on phones especially have short focal lengths).
And that is also how the phrase âthe camera adds ten poundsâ came about.
this is actually so interesting I had no idea
the fucking phonecam been stealing my curves bruh! I thought it was just a perception thing that Iâd be looking so cute but could never get my curves to show in a selfie no matter the angle. Iâm tryna make money smh
what is the january mood?
Bloop
Also, like, a lot of corporate employers only or primarily do temp-to-permanent positions which require applicants to more or less identify as freelancers for the purposes of these kinds of studies.
Like, the fact that the economy no longer sustains people who are aiming at careers (or at least long term participation in certain fields), but forces us to become contract laborers (reducing the legal rights of a lot of employees), or to find âgigâ professions to sustain or make up any income shortfalls isnât good news. It isnât even a matter of choice in most urban areas, depending on what field youâre trying to break into.
Even roles that arenât traditionally âfreelanceâ or contract are increasingly becoming so. I think most people think of freelance work as people who are following their passion and are something like writers or artists/designers, but at my old hospital, there were 5 staff social workers (for a 470 bed hospital and all adjacent clinics) and all the rest were contractors, which meant that our jobs were constantly in danger.Â
It also meant patients were the ones who suffered the most when admin did things like cut the entire drug and alcohol counseling program except for one person who could only provide support if you wanted in-patient treatment for opioids.Â
Per diem and contract jobs for social workers are a dime a dozen around here and all of them require a masters and a license. Itâs a fucking racket.Â
how dull for you to live your life without any hills to die on, you, on your vast flat barren plains of compromise, acceptance, and accommodation, while I reign supreme over the lush, rolling highlands of stupid shit I have irrationally chosen to stake my entire identity on
Did yâall know that @staff deleted @workingitinportland for adult content and refused to let her appeal
She only posts sex work activist stuff and doesnât actually post any adult content or anything nsfw.
Structural Ambiguity of the Day
New favourite example of structural ambiguity: At Milwaukeeâs cat cafe, you can eat, drink and pet cats.Â
