I'm instituting a new policy of "if I can't easily read your crusty scanned PDF then I'm sending it back to you, telling you to get your shit together and save your .docx as .pdf, and causing snakes to manifest inside your house"
this but also if you are in accounting and you have an Excel file please do not save it as a PDF or take a screenshot of it and then paste it into another Excel file
I take it back whatever you have going on is way worse than what I was dealing with holy shit
@thesummoningdark hello?????
yeah no this is a real thing an actual human being said to me
Good afternoon to everyone in the notes having a horrible time! Y'all are fighting demons I never knew existed!! I think every person that makes you do stupid time wasting shit like this because they refuse to learn basic computer literacy should be fired!!
The fact that I have to teach some students that delete button ≠ backspace button (for the ctrl+alt+del) and my coworker who’s been at the job for forty years how to do ctrl+f on a file… makes me feel more tech savvy than I really am.

A Taglish rpf about two members of a boy group. (I used alternative names to create some distance)
Summary: Paulo gets drugged at a party and something happens between him and Jayce.
Then they have to deal with the consequences in the light of day. Is this the end? Or can it be the beginning?
I’m working on the sequel right now but I’m procrastinating by posting about it. 🤣
It’s not a Discworld joke unless you read it, don’t parse it as a joke, and then carry on with your life for ten years until someone stops you to say something like “It’s a pavlovian response because the dog ate a pavlova” and you scream Terry’s name with enough indignant rage you hope it rattles the pillars of the multiverse so wherever his soul is he’ll hear it.
#i don’t think this is what pterry meant by ‘a man’s not dead while his name is still spoken’
I absolutely think it is
I read Jingo for the first time when I was 13.
I’m 33 now, and I still discover a new joke every time I reread it.
Terry was a comedic genius
#shoutout to the one in Soul Music about the leopard that got thrown out of the circus because it couldn't hear the ringmaster#it was several months after my second or third time reading the book that I clocked it was a Deaf Leopard (via @morkaischosen)
god DAMMIT
When I was informed that “Vetinari” is a pun on “Medici”. That pun was so painful I couldn’t even see it.
...are you FUCKING KIDDING ME.
*starts thunderously knocking on the doors of heaven*
get out here Terry I just wanna talk
Twurp’s Peerage made me throw a book (gently) at a wall.
In the UK, the book of the peerage is called Burke’s Peerage. Burke sounds like berk, which means a silly/annoying person. So Terry took ‘twerp’, another word for a silly or annoying person, and replaced the e with u.
The Book of Silly and Annoying People, based on the real thing with a pun on the name thrown in for good measure.
OMG I FUCKING *KNEW* VETINARI WAS A JOKE ON FUCKONG SOMETHING I JUST COULDNT GRASP IT. I THOUGHT IT WAS A REFERENCE TO WIND SOMEHOW
I am not a talented punster so I was today old when I realised about Vetinari.
guys it's fucking close to water
Latinclass ca. 9th grade: the text we had to translate contained the words trans means "on the other side of" or in german it can be translated to "über/ hinüber". Also silvas; silvanis means "the forest" or in german "der Wald".
Trans silvas very simply translated into german would be über den Wald
Trans silvas -> Transsilvanien -> Überwald
My latin teacher gave me a very weird look as I suddenly facepalmed myself and groaned quietly.
The Venturi and Selachii feud is what killed me when I got it.
The Venturi Effect is a scientific term referring to the acceleration of a liquid through a narrow tube (like a jet).
Selachii is a classification of sharks. (I discovered this when my stepson got really into sharks)
... fucking HELL Terry.
In Carpe Jugulum, Count Magpyr boasts of having helped write the Malleus Maleficarum, along with the Torquus Simiae Maleficarum, the Auriga Clavium Maleficarum, and in fact the entire Arca Instrumentorum.
The Malleus Maleficarum is a very real, very nasty and absolutely batshit insane book from late 15th-century Germany, basically laying out the procedure for catching, torturing, and executing witches. Its title translates to The Hammer of Witches. The other titles are Pratchett's inventions.
Malleus = "hammer" Torquus Simiae = "monkey wrench" Auriga Clavium = "bucket of nails" Arca Instrumentorum = "box of tools"
Monstrous Regiment is named for a pamphlet written by extremely shouty Calvinist and one of the leaders of the new Church of Scotland, John Knox, in the 16th century against all the women getting into positions of power in politics at the time (Liz I, Mary Queen of Scots etc). The document itself is titled "The First Blast of the Trumpet against the monstrous regiment of Women".
In a book about an overbearing and baffling and misogynist God and the heroes being a ragtag regiment of literal women and monsters, I punched the air on that one. The layers of pun are built up like a millefeuille.
(Also, if you read some of the stuff in the actual tract, you can see where Pterry got some of Nuggan's laws, although proceed with caution because it's a vitriolic piece of work)

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, let’s talk about your posture-
there are things you should be doing now to prevent yourself from starting to look like 🥀
Why does it matter? Future you would like to avoid the pain, limited motion, and fall risk that goes along with worsening posture.
What’s the focus?
1. Keep the flexibility in your spine
2. Stretch the muscles in the front
3. Strengthen the muscle in the back
Here are some simple things you can do daily while sitting and when you get up to go into the bathroom or the kitchen
Keep the flexibility by doing these repeated movements: 10 repetitions several times a day
The goal is to give yourself a double or triple chin. Keep your nose pointing forward, don’t let it tip up or down
Thoracic extension- use a chair with a seat back that comes up to the level of your shoulder blades. Try to bend back over the top of the chair without arching away from the seat back and without extending your neck. If the pressure from the top of the chair is uncomfortable you can place a towel there
Stretch the muscles in the front by using a door frame. This one will feel good afterwards
If this isn’t enough of a stretch you can do one side at a time. If you have the right arm up step forward with the right foot and turn slightly to the left. Then do it on the other side.
Strengthen the muscles in the back by squeezing your shoulder blades together for a count of 10 and then repeating 10 times. You can do this several times a day Hint: Don’t lift your shoulder blades up
There are lots more exercises for strengthening your back muscles but this is a good starting point and easy to do. I like doing it while driving
Tips:
Do the best you can
If it hurts stop
Envision future you saying thank you each time you do one of the exercises
NOTE: I can do most of these with the cerebral palsy. In fact, a lot of these little exercises are automatically part of my physical therapy. My problem is I already have hyperlordosis, spine arthritis, and cervicogenic headache. These have helped me at least try to have a posture.
I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW GOOD THIS ADVICE IS
we just want to add to this that a little daily dancing to some music that gets you moving is very good for body and mind both, it really loosens everything up - mostly we can only manage 3-4 minutes because of fatigue, but our joints and muscles really appreciate it, and you can do it sat down too, or even lying in bed
holy shit
granny weatherwax would be proud
Loving the branding of new p-pop girl group XONARA. Wish I could be there for their debut this May 16, 2026. There’s seven members and there’s an adorable mascot(?) in their teasers.
Wakas at Simula: The trilogy concert finale (just me rambling because I'm still on a concert high).
I'm not sure I could summarize an entire experience. But I'm going to try.
Last night was my first SB19 concert ever and it's my second concert in my entire life. And it was such an amazing experience, even with all the heat and humidity and the imperfections that happened. One of these mistakes was when Josh's inner ear (I thought it was the mic when I saw it) messed up and it caused him to mess up his line in "Visa". I was so concerned and cared more about his safety (even though rationally I knew they were professionals). I'm glad they were able to quickly solve it and he had no issues for the rest of the night. I was fortunate enough to experience this with one of my closest friends from college. She considers herself a new A'tin because it's only this year that she finally listened to their music. While we couldn't really see anything from our spot (we were at the back section of VIP) the live vocals and the large screen made up for it. During times when it was my personal favorite songs like "Mana" I stood on my chair and carefully danced to their live vocals. I lived and danced in the moment and even from afar their performance and arrangement was cool, epic, and stunning. Whenever we would stand up and party (like in the Bazinga-Crimzone mashup) everyone was jumping and enthusiastic. Cashual Chuck mentioned in his review that during that part, he literally felt the ground shake. I personally didn't feel it but then again my friend and I were also jumping and dancing. I also shed alot of tears during the emotional moments. Especially when mahalima implied that they were scared that when the day comes when they will no longer be performing, they wonder if the A'tin will still be there and if that day may come sooner rather than later. It's a sobering reality that these men who are in my age bracket (Stell and I are the same age) are now also slowly transitioning into a life wherein they won't be performing as much so that they can begin to have families of their own (or at least more private lives than what they currently have). Perhaps this is why when they finally sang "Wakas" it hits a lot harder than usual. Everything will one day end. My life, the human race (hopefully later rather than sooner), the earth itself, even things on the internet aren't as permanent as people claim it is. And out of all the things that could have happened, I was given the opportunity to hear them live. Maybe the reason why I didn't mind not recording many of their performances was because I know that even a fancam of their concert is nothing compared to savoring their vocals live. Despite how difficult the world is and how difficult my own struggles are, SB19 reminded me that there's hope and to not give up on my dreams.
So thank you to everyone who made this event possible. And I would also like to thank the special guest stars in the concert. Thank you to Be:First, you have gained a new fan after hearing your vocals live (my favorite from their solo set is their song "Be first all day"). Thank you to kuya Jay, the choreographer behind Mahalima's hit dance moves (the most well-known is Gento). I'm looking forward to your career as J2X under 1Z Entertainment. I can't wait for your new songs to be released. Thank you to Xonara, you did a good job girls, can't wait for your debut on May 15, you've got this. And thank you to Rie Hata for your dance performance, Emoji wouldn't be the same without you. Even from afar I couldn't take my eyes off of you dancing.
screw branding, i cut it off and painted this
I picked up this “hobby” of fucking up hats for fun when I can’t sleep or focus on whatever I’m working on over the past year or so
although my collection isn’t huge by no means I have accumulated enough of them that I figured it might be fun to share
1. Triceratops nike hat
this is the first cap desecration that occurred around a year ago, the one that started it all
materials used: screw on spikes
2. Weird cyber sigilism-esque adidas hat
this is my evil ex’s hat that I liked but needed to change it somehow so I can stop associating it w him
materials used: black acrylic paint, black contour paint for staining glass, old piercings
3. Brain blowout
I kinda just hated this hat because it had a really ugly embroidered graphic on the front and it’s poor fitting, it looks cool now but still fits like hot ass so i don’t wear it that often
materials used: scrap fabric, red and brown acrylic paint mixed with isopropyl alcohol and red ink (for brain matter/ blood effect), a lighter, an awl, old pins, a red ribbon
4. Centipede hat >:3
I bought a blank hat specifically for this project, love how it turned out. It’s probably my favorite hat I’ve modded so far
materials used: white and pearlescent acrylic paint
5. Spike spine nike hat
My sister started borrowing my hats super often so I offered to just mod one of hers. I didn’t want to copy the exact same thing I did on mine so I came up with this n she’s happy with it
materials used: screw on spikes
6. Skull hat
I think this is my mom’s old hat n I dug it out of a wardrobe. I thought it was super cute so I made it my own >:3
materials used: scrap fabric, embroidery thread, screw on spikes, mini safety pin

Jesus Tapdancing Christ... THIS is a good welt pocket and the people who designed Simplicity 2895 ought to be blasted well ASHAMED of themselves for the crap way THEY wanted a welt pocket made. *SNARLS*
This is how I learned to do it and a good example of what you want to see in a short form tutorial: pinning, pressing, seam finishing, good fabric handling.
I would mention that you can make the pocket facing with a small panel of your matching fabric that is visible and the rest in a lighter fabric to reduce bulk. That's a lot of denim layers for comfort.
“how to recognize AI in fanfic” — hey so this is another not-gentle reminder that AI stole from us. it’s using OUR words and OUR sentences and OUR styles.
writing “long” paragraphs is not a sign of AI — it’s a common narrative choice many writers make both in fanfiction and in traditionally published novels, and AI stole it from us.
using an em dash is not a sign of AI. it’s a stylistic sentence choice that’s been an option in place of commas and semicolons for a very long time, and AI stole it from us.
long sentence structures are not a sign of AI, but are yet another stylistic choice writers often make to create a cadence and tone that mimics the flow of poetry, and AI stole it from us.
“YA narrative breaks”? i don’t even know what the fuck this means, but i can guarantee that AI stole it from us.
italics are once again a stylistic choice that many writers love to use to create emphasis, and it’s a more stylistically acceptable and traditional form of emphasis than bold or underline text. oh, and just to be extra clear: AI STOLE IT FROM US.
stop creating fandom witch hunts over AI when you know fuck all about what it means to sit and write a story, and to spend hours fiddling with sentence structure and dialogue to get the exact right tone. writers will stop writing out of fear that their work “sounds like AI” — IT DOESNT! AI STOLE FROM US! AI SOUNDS LIKE US! — and after a while, all that will be available on AO3 is shitty AI-generated fanfiction.
because yeah, people are going to continue to use AI to write fanfiction whether you “call them out” or not. but making a laughable thread on X that uses asinine criteria is not going to fix that problem. it will just push the real writers out because people will accuse them of using AI when they haven’t, and they will (rightfully) stop writing for spaces that attack them.
anyway. fuck ai.
The monster is wearing our faces.
Just came home from a dinner party with the friendgroup at which several people kept saying "Ask Pedro" or "Pedro will know" and I was terrified that they were referring to an AI like Claude but no, thank fuck, they were referring to a cardboard cutout of Pedro Pascal that someone left upstairs and who has been designated a kind of patron saint status in the household.
