I’m????
Oh my God this actually explains so much.
So there’s a known thing in the study of human psychology/sociology/what-have-you where men are known to, on average, rely entirely on their female romantic partner for emotional support. Bonding with other men is done at a more superficial level involving fun group activities and conversations about general subjects but rarely involves actually leaning on other men or being really honest about emotional problems. Men use alcohol to be able to lower their inhibitions enough to expose themselves emotionally to other men, but if you can’t get emotional support unless you’re drunk, you have a problem.
So men need to have a woman in their lives to have anyone they can share their emotional needs and vulnerabilities with. However, since women are not socialized to fear sharing these things, women’s friendships with other women are heavily based on emotional support. If you can’t lean on her when you’re weak, she’s not your friend. To women, what friendship is is someone who listens to all your problems and keeps you company.
So this disconnect men are suffering from is that they think that only a person who is having sex with you will share their emotions and expect support. That’s what a romantic partner does. But women think that’s what a friend does. So women do it for their romantic partners and their friends and expect a male friend to do it for them the same as a female friend would. This fools the male friend into thinking there must be something romantic there when there is not.
This here is an example of patriarchy hurting everyone. Women have a much healthier approach to emotional support – they don’t die when widowed at nearly the rate that widowers die and they don’t suffer emotionally from divorce nearly as much even though they suffer much more financially, and this is because women don’t put all their emotional needs on one person. Women have a support network of other women. But men are trained to never share their emotions except with their wife or girlfriend, because that isn’t manly. So when she dies or leaves them, they have no one to turn to to help with the grief, causing higher rates of death, depression, alcoholism and general awfulness upon losing a romantic partner.
So men suffer terribly from being trained in this way. But women suffer in that they can’t reach out to male friends for basic friendship. I am not sure any man can comprehend how heartbreaking it is to realize that a guy you thought was your friend was really just trying to get into your pants. Friendship is real. It’s emotional, it’s important to us. We lean on our friends. Knowing that your friend was secretly seething with resentment when you were opening up to him and sharing your problems because he felt like he shouldn’t have to do that kind of emotional work for anyone not having sex with him, and he felt used by you for that reason, is horrible. And the fact that men can’t share emotional needs with other men means that lots of men who can’t get a girlfriend end up turning into horrible misogynistic people who think the world owes them the love of a woman, like it’s a commodity… because no one will die without sex. Masturbation exists. But people will die or suffer deep emotional trauma from having no one they can lean on emotionally. And men who are suffering deep emotional trauma, and have been trained to channel their personal trauma into rage because they can’t share it, become mass shooters, or rapists, or simply horrible misogynists.
The only way to fix this is to teach boys it’s okay to love your friends. It’s okay to share your needs and your problems with your friends. It’s okay to lean on your friends, to hug your friends, to be weak with your friends. Only if this is okay for boys to do with their male friends can this problem be resolved… so men, this one’s on you. Women can’t fix this for you; you don’t listen to us about matters of what it means to be a man. Fix your own shit and teach your brothers and sons and friends that this is okay, or everyone suffers.
The next time a guy says, “What? You don't want to be my friend?” I’ll text him this and then ask if he really wants to be friends or just have another potential girlfriend.
y’all I am living for these analyses where the new way to fight the patriarchy is to teach men to love each other and themselves
Im a communication student and can confirm the above is absolutely 100% accurate and it’s called agentic vs communal friendship theorized by Steven McCornack
Y’all know free condoms is a result of gay activists who worked towards safer sex practices after the AIDS crisis right? Because if not it’s one google search away

The myth that panic, looting, and antisocial behavior increases during the apocalypse (or apocalyptic-like scenarios) is in fact a myth—and has been solidly disproved by multiple scientific studies. The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program, a research group within the United States Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), has produced research that shows over and over again that “disaster victims are assisted first by others in the immediate vicinity and surrounding area and only later by official public safety personnel […] The spontaneous provision of assistance is facilitated by the fact that when crises occur, they take place in the context of ongoing community life and daily routines—that is, they affect not isolated individuals but rather people who are embedded in networks of social relationships.” (Facing Hazards and Disasters: Understanding Human Dimensions, National Academy of Sciences, 2006). Humans do not, under the pressure of an emergency, socially collapse. Rather, they seem to display higher levels of social cohesion, despite what media or government agents might expect…or portray on TV. Humans, after the apocalypse, band together in collectives to help one another—and they do this spontaneously. Disaster response workers call it ‘spontaneous prosocial helping behavior’, and it saves lives.
I’ve been sharing this article a lot recently! I think it’s important
#stop believing capitalism’s myths about human nature#and start remembering that we are the descendants of the first animals to bury their dead with flowers#we are all alive because of kindness. because of cooperation. because of companionship. because of mutual aid.#we did not become the dominant species based on rugged individualism: we survived together. and that’s the only way forward. When I see Americans trying to explain race to non-Americans, I can't help but facepalm. Greeks, I feel your pain. As a Brazilian, I have this problem: half the country is white, but because Americans saw a few footballers and two or three Carnaval photos, they are convinced we are all black. And if I say to them that white Brazilians exist, they say I'm wrong and racist. Like, what? I'm here, I've been here my whole life, but they seriously think they know more than me.
Americans usually put race, even looks, over nationality not understanding that this does not occur for… most of the other countries in the world that is not them. They also refuse to understand that not every country has the same history and race issues than them, or that they can’t understand the politics of another country if they have not lived there.

Whoopi Goldberg: “Well, when I was nine years old, Star Trek came on. I looked at it and I went screaming through the house. “Come here, mum, everybody, come quick. Come quick. There’s a black lady on television and she ain’t no maid!” I knew right then and there I could be anything I wanted to be.
The story of Nichelle Nichols and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As Nichols described in an interview with the Huffington Post, when King learned that she was leaving, he urged her to stay, stating: “‘Don’t you realize how important your presence, your character is? This is not a black role or a female role. You have the first nonstereotypical role on television. You have broken ground’… ‘Here we are marching, and there you are projecting where we’re going. You cannot leave [the show]. Don’t you understand what you mean?’ I told him that when I would go on hiatus from the show, I could come and march with him and he said, ‘No! You’re an image for us. We look on that screen and we know where we’re going.’

so when are men gonna realize that women aren’t complicated and we’re actually just normal people and it’s men that lack emotional depth and interesting personalities?
Yeah….. Except I’m an emotional man with tons of depth. I speak 5 languages and play every instrument known. I can build a house. I can plant a garden. I know a little bit about everything.
Maybe women really are cunts who just seek to destroy men and invalidate them?
i have no idea how to reply to this cause it’s simply just the funniest thing i’ve ever read and nothing will ever top it
I love how none of the things he stated are indicative of emotional depth or an interesting personality
so we all agree that prince cardan is an elitist prick (I mean, he is) but let’s also collectively acknowledge the fact that he’s like,, a complete fucking trainwreck of a person:
shows up drunk on the day of his brother’s coronation
copes with having a crush by aggressively writing her name over and over on a crumpled piece of paper
makes out with her while she casually holds a knife to his throat
literally bends himself to her will to prove that he’s trustworthy
gets kidnapped by her ragtag band of thieves & assassins
then proceeds to drink wine & play cards with them because at this point why not
just wants to drink wine and dissociate in peace tbh
has zero sense of self preservation in general
has huge character flaws that he has no intention of working on
also, extreme cynicism towards self
……is generally really sarcastic for someone who’s about to start crying at any given moment
I want everybody to watch North Carolina.
I want everybody to see how quickly help, food, water, and electricity is restored to the outer banks and the beach and the Raleigh area. I want yall to see the sympathy people get for staying in flood zones, for the understanding many will get for not evacuating. I want everybody to see how it will only take a week or two for everyone to be back to their regularly scheduled lives.
And then.
And then I want everybody to look at Puerto Rico. I want y'all to look a back at people calling Boris idiots for staying on the island. At the debate posts on whether America should’ve helped or not. At the food packages full of candy bars and no actual food in sight. At the months of no electricity in communities, hospitals, nursing homes. At every school that shut down in the last year. I want everybody to see the loss life, the devistation, and the hundreds of homeless people in PR after Maria. I want everybody to look.
And then tell me to my face that Americans have ever given a shit about anybody but themselves.

I’m spreading this because this is greatly unsettling to me. I live in europe and really can’t imagine how the future would look like.
At this point i’m signing every petition i come across, have contacted all of the MEPs that are relevant to me and told pretty much everyone i talk to about it. Please help, it’s important.
I live in Europe and this is horrifying.
Reblogging this for anyone in Europe. I don’t truly understand all of this but 👆👆👆👆
My Opinion on Jason Grace
I already did My Opinion on Piper McLean, and I decided to make this a series of posts. I’m getting my negative opinions out of the way, so this really won’t be positive.
Anyways, so where do I start with Jason? I never exactly hated him, but I was never fond of him, either. I liked him enough to be shocked and startled when I found out about his death, but overall, he has to be my least favorite out of the seven, because of the fact that he’s just….idk boring.
Every other character has something interesting that draws me to them; Piper has her insecurities, Percy has his sense of humor, Frank has his adorable clumsiness, Hazel has a complicated past etc. ALL the characters regardless of their placement on my rankings, has something that keeps me interested. All, except Jason.
Jason, in my opinion, is bland to say at the least, and I feel a lot of his plot lines that did interest me relied on someone else’s plot line; meaning they were only interesting, because of someone else. I really don’t want to dislike Jason, as I do like his kindness and loyalty, but man, he is such a boring-ass character.

How to watch Queen of the South if you live outside of the US.
With the early release of 3x09 on US iTunes, I noticed that Queen of the South has a lot of international fans (me included) and it is literally impossible for us to contribute to the ratings of any of our favourite US shows. So I gave myself a mission to find a way for us to help boost QOTS ratings (not that they are low, it’s the 3rd highest rated show on USA Network and 2nd most viewed show on Thursday nights in the US, but this way we feel like we are doing something). *Keep in mind I use a VPN chrome extension and my knowledge on this subject is very limited, to say the least. I know free VPN is not always safe but I read a decent amount of reviews and it’s the best way to help and watch the episodes.
so, the first thing we are going to do is download Hola chrome extension (DotVPN is another one you can use, but I haven’t tried it yet)
visit the USA Network site. Click on full episodes >> Queen of the South
click on the Hoa/DotVPN icon and make sure you select the United States. I only activate it when I want to watch episodes otherwise I have it turned off
before activating the location change you would have had a message saying ‘sorry, this video is not available in your location’ (I hate that message sm) NOW you will get a pop up message asking you to ‘ sign in with your tv provider to watch full episodes’.
if that message does appear sign in using this info. (the account is still active and it works.)
and finally, select ‘play’ and enjoy. *it may slow your browser down a little in the process*
If you don’t want to use a VPN that is completely fine. There is another way you can kinda help and that’s with the power of social media and live stream links.
find a live stream link that works for you. LG-stream normally posts new links about an hour before the episode airs.
I recently (today) found FirstOne TV which is a site that streams networks from all over the world live - for free and without a registration! (in love with this site rn)
while watching the episode use the hashtag #QueenoftheSouth
interact with fellow fans, the cast (Peter is the funniest, such a dork) and the writers. *important* don’t bombard them with multiple questions etc. They are taking time out of their lives to interact with us so please respect that :)
If you don’t know what time the show will be airing in your time zone, you can use time zone converter.
some live stream links might not work or lag. Also, open the link at least 30 minutes for the episode airs because you might have a few adds that you will have to close (and they are a pain all the time)
Remember that live streams do not help with the ratings.
One last thing. Netflix! Season 1 & 2 are out on Netflix (don’t know if this is for everyone) and your views do count.
It really is a shame that we international fans are very limited when it comes to contributing to the ratings but I hope this will help. Please reblog to spread the word. If there are any problems please let me know and I’ll try my best to help you.
I love y’all but if you decide to watch episode 3x09 early like some of us, pleaseeee still watch it on Thursday! Because if we’re trying to get a season 4, we need the ratings to be good! Anyways, much love. 😌
