"Hereās a trick I learned during the Obama presidency for handling certain types of political labels. Take, as an example, the Tea Party claim that Obama is a Communist. Donāt take the word of the person making the claim (Tea Partiers). Donāt rely on the rebuttal of the target (Obama), because that will just be dismissed. Go to the group itself (Communists) and ask them. Ask an actual Communist if Obama is a comrade and see how they answer. Watch as they laugh at you, then explain in great detail how they wish there was a Communist in the White House, but hereās a long and exhaustive list of why that just isnāt so. Now apply this logic to the claim that Hillary is pretty much the same as a Republican. Ask an actual Republican if they think Hillary Clinton is one of them. Watch them laugh, and then explain in the same exhausting detail why that just isnāt so. Some of them might concede that sheās better than Trump, but thatās not the same thing. Finally, go ask a White Supremacist if Trump is one of them. As they excitedly explain how Trump is the guy theyāve been waiting for all these years, and how heās really empowered their movement, use this to guide how you will be voting in November."

This child who came to my house tonight is literally the funniest human being on the planet. She complimented me on having both lollipops and mini Three Musketeers available because "a lot of houses these days don't give you a fruit flavor option." She was very solemn about this.
Oh, to be a little kitten who just got vaccinated and then taken to a high-end restaurant and tasted the best food the chefs could offer and then fell asleep in a basket.

Hmm. My ceiling in my living room that I havenāt been in since Dashcon is collapsing and there is an alarming amount of mold. I believe something bad has occurred, I do not know what to do about this situation because it is not raccoon related.
side note, but i feel like this is a good example of how autism manifests in seemingly "low support needs" individuals. I can get a permit that is very hard to obtain, go to another country where nobody I work with speaks the language I do, hold myself together while I kneel beside a dead raccoon to try to determine cause of death, write reports for institutions to mitigate risk to raccoons, etc etc etc. but then the moment something like this happens I freeze up and curl in a ball and have no idea what to do because I have no money or skill to fix it myself and i'm scared of the textures. And also literally cannot speak on the phone ever.
No, it's not inappropriate. It is a really common feeling for a lot of autistic people society deems as "low support needs."
There's a lot of frustration and shame in it, too, because of the way the world as a whole treats us. I think it is rooted in Aspie supremacy or whatever (internalized and external), but there is so much focus on the so called magical, wonderful abilities autism gives you (in my case, raccoons/costume design), that when you exhibit autistic traits more commonly associated with "high support needs" individuals, people automatically go "ummm I think you are faking/lazy/stupid/weaponizing incompetence/blah blah blah because I have seen you do [xyz thing that people find incredibly impressive], so you should easily be able to do [current thing]!" When that is not how autism works. Additionally, I don't think most people realized that a lot of "low support needs" autistic folks aren't infact all that "low support needs," it's just that they don't have people able to meet those support needs, so they just struggle. And because nobody is there to see them struggle, then those struggles don't exist.
I think about this cake every day
sorry for exposing your tags but this is hilarious
OP, I hope you donāt mind me making an addition:
When I turned 17, we ordered a cake at the grocery store for my party, as weād done many times before. If you wanted something written on the cake youād write it into a section of the order form. We requested, very simply, āHappy Birthday Courtneyā. When we went to pick it up the day of the party, this is what we got.
The bakery employees had absolutely no explanation for this. The order form, attached to the box, very clearly did not contain any of those extra names. Whomever had done the writing was no longer in, so there was no one to ask how this had happened. The fact that the name āJuanā is misspelled bewilders me to this day. (Iāve never seen āMileyā without the E, either, but itās believable that someone might spell it that way.) Did this cake slip in from an alternate universe where Iām one quarter of a set of Hispanic quadruplets? Dyslexic Hispanic quadruplets, maybe?
This cake became the focal point of my party. At least two of my friends regularly called me āCourtney Mily Jaun Pabloā for years to come. My siblings and I still reference it sometimes, eleven years later. It is probably the funniest thing ever to occur at any birthday celebration of my life, and may well remain so for the rest of my days.
I love a botched cake.
one time me and some pals spotted one of those big cookie cakes in a store. it was done up with red icing and little X's for kisses and in the middle it said
No One Like You
now, it took us a while to realise it meant "(there is) no one like you". at first, we all parsed it as a botched "no one like(s) you"
for ages after when we'd wind each other up we'd declare "NO ONE LIKE YOU ā¹ļøš"
I just feel like it's important to post the Sacred Texts
The Cake Wrecks blog is one that I miss.
The reason you can't be the next J R R Tolkien isn't because you don't have the talent, but because you're not the right kind of unwell. Tolkien wasn't bent for fantasy worldbuilding; he was bent for constructed languages, and got into fantasy worldbuilding in order to provide a material context in which to ground the notional evolution of the languages he invented. If you want to be the next Tolkien, you can't start with the worldbuilding; you've gotta find something extremely specific to fixate on, and develop it in such depth that inventing a world to contain it is genuinely the most logical next step.
#the best route is clearly to get really into a specific kink scenario and invent a world to justify it (via @salix03)
That's not even a joke. Developing a kink scenario so elaborate and so excruciatingly particular that it can only properly be contemplated in the frame of a world created specifically to contain it is genuinely closer to Tolkien's actual creative process than 99% of the stuff that plays at being heir to his legacy.
