The TikTok gods have blessed me with an interview to Ayrton from Italia Uno taken at the 1990 Bologna Motor Show (I checked, and it was apparently around December 1990), and:

-he was asked if he was worried abt the fact apparently a bunch of McLaren "technicians" had left, and he answered that no, it wasn't that weird, and that teams couldn't expect to be able to keep the same people every season, then added, SMILING: "not even the racers :)))"

-after some talk about Cesare Fiorio getting pissed of bc of something Ayrton said to him, he said he was offered a ride with Ferrari but he was the one who decided not to sign the contract, otherwise he would have been in Ferrari in 1991

-he was immediately asked if it was Alain who didn't want him in Ferrari and he laughed and said: "ask him, not me"

I keep imagining Alain trying to escape Ayrton by switching teams and Ayrton going: "👀👀👀 where do YOU think you're going???" 😂😂😂😭😭😭

Children might not know what ratios are in the sense of 1:1 notation, but they are more than capable of understanding 'you have to use the same amount of water and rice otherwise it goes wrong'.

Gimmie Eridians who are absolutely heartbroken to hear that humans where so desperate and so scared that they where willing to part with not just one Grace, there were three of them! Gimmie Eridians touched to find that the humans planned a way for their sacrifices to be as comfortable as possible. Gimmie Eridians who send earth a message saying “We know it must have hurt to send your heroes to die, but one made it and he’s safe here. We lost 22 good Eridians on the journey we would have lost 23 if not for your Grace.”

Give me humans sitting on Earth slowly coming to the conclusion that when we look up not only are we not alone, someone out there is alive because of one of us. That no matter what we think of ourselves a whole species thinks highly of us because we helped save the galaxy. Give me humans who figure out how to send a probe to Erid filled to the brim with messages for Grace and footage of a monument being raised that reads his name, his crews names, and then “in memory of the 22 Eridians who lost their lives on the journey to save the stars.”

I can always tell when a phm fic is written by someone who hasn't yet read the book -- which is totally fine btw! There are just some details that always stand out to me as being different, is all.

Like the fact Eridians are water based lifeforms. They use superheated water to power their inorganic 'muscles.' (Grace internally comments on them basically being steam powered.) They need water in their diet to replenish the steam list via their vents, but it comes exclusively from their food.

Erid also has oceans! Due to the extreme atmospheric pressure and heat, the boiling point of water is higher than Erid's surface temperature -- meaning Erid has very hot bodies of liquid water. This was how they managed to produce an absolute shit ton of astrophage btw, by using the oceans' ambient heat. So eridians know about water and oceans and beaches before Grace, but probably not about snow and ice. (I'll have to look up the triple point of water at 29atm.)

Anyway. I'm now picturing a small pause after the conversation about oceans and beaches and Adrian in the DGCR and Rocky just being like. Erid have oceans, btw. Big big beach by major city Rocky and Adrian lived in while helping build Blip-A. And Grace just flailing a bit because "what the heck, Rocky, why'd you let me go on about beaches like that, then?" And Rocky saying, because rocky like when Grace talk about things he likes on Earth. Like hearing Grace happy. Happy when talking about beaches and water.
