Can I be negative for a minute?
Obvious preamble that everyone's headcanons on their own, none of this is real, no one has to agree, but everyone's got an opinion so
I really dislike when Pokémon are framed as pets.
This is not aimed at any one person, I see it all the time; in jokes, in fanworks, etc and that's everyone's right. I've just always seen Pokémon as self-aware, sapient monsters with agency — mostly thanks to the anime, where your two icons are Pikachu and Meowth — that the idea of them being unaware, baser animals repels me. Part of the appeal of the escape fantasy, to me, is those monsters being your friends; your comrades Some lil' (or big) bastards who can spit flames, water, or electricity, and accept you as their coach to kick ass across the globe.
Or compete in Contests - or fight crime! Whatever your goals may be.
Like, it feels demeaning to me to frame them as less. This doesn't mean they can't serve some of the same functions; like, there's no way there aren't plenty of Pokémon who trade being cute, cuddly companions in exchange for food and shelter, but I prefer that as a conscious choice.
Pokopia also backs up this idea to me. Pokémon were forced to pick up the reins for humans when they left the planet, and rebuild society as it once was. Until then, they'd had specialization of labor; they live as Pokémon, and humans build infrastructure and provide for them. With them gone... well, it's like being thrown into a whole new field you have no experience with. Of course they're going to struggle to adapt. But, they do adapt, and their thoughts are given to us just as complex as humans'. While I'd also draw attention to PMD as a series, I've heard a fair amount of people call it an AU - for what that's worth - so Pokopia hopping off of the main universe(s) is a nice reinforcement.
i get rly emotional abt onimais existence whenever i start thinking abt it too hard because like. its just so kind. its one of the kindest things ive ever seen put to print and screen, and the fact that it exists is just so... imagine being an egg out there yknow? imagine being in mahiros shoes and finding onimai. imagine learning, through something as tender and beautiful as onimai, that there exists not just girls like you, but other girls who are more than willing to help you grow into your new identity and love yourself for the first time.
imagine seeing yourself for the first time through mahiro, one of the cutest, most lovable girls ever made. she too had to struggle to feel out her girlhood - its scary, yknow? changes that big, even when you want it - and while this lead to situations that were embarrassing or scary, shes never someone to ridicule. shes learning, yknow? we all make mistakes. when she accidentally stumbles into old habits, or shyly tries out new ones, she's never reprimanded or laughed at. and on top of that, it provides that gentle wish fulfillment of a sister who's always loved you walking you through your transition and loving you still throughout. it provides that gentle reassurance that youre always allowed to be an adorable little girl, even if youve supposedly chronologically passed your childhood already. that one didnt count, you know? it wasnt fully yours. you get to be a little girl now. its so kind. its just so kind...
Pros of AI: my landlord that im sueing is using AI for his defense instead of hiring a lawyer (despite having the money to do so) and it is fabricating laws that don't exist which im told is not great in the eyes of the court, so maybe ill win :D
Cons of using AI: the rest of it
Has anyone figured out what’s so viscerally wrong with this woman yet
She’s so one dimensionally evil you guys 😭😭 how is she real
read this and remember it. read this and remember that she is going to use the profits of her fucking ego-stroking reboot to decimate trans rights. read this and remember that every time you pay into her IP, you are emboldening her to hurt us more.
our lives matter more than your fucking nostalgia.
trans lives matter more than your fucking nostalgia.
I’m so tired of people choosing one ship over the other. What do you mean I can’t have Monochrome, Ladybug, WhiteRose, Frosen Steel, etc. all in one? The idea of relationships having a cap on how many people are involved is ridiculous. As long as you love every person equally, the sky’s the limit! Screw it, I’ll make my own RWBY with every acceptable ship in it! None of you will stop me!
Come to think of it, the pre-Gen 7 release theories era was one hell of a fever dream
what i think is fun is that the Journeys anime played into those theories just a little bit. Specifically the Lillie is a Nihilego one. Since in the anime Mohn wasn't on bean island, he was living in a snow trapped cabin with a shiny Nihilego whom he believed to be his daughter Lllie. And then, said nihilego joins their family and continues to be called Lillie. So in a sense, the Nihilego!Lillie turned out to be true in a roundabout way.
“Get a rat and put it in a cage and give it two water bottles. One is just water, and one is water laced with either heroin or cocaine. If you do that, the rat will almost always prefer the drugged water and almost always kill itself very quickly, right, within a couple of weeks. So there you go. It’s our theory of addiction. Bruce comes along in the ‘70s and said, “Well, hang on a minute. We’re putting the rat in an empty cage. It’s got nothing to do. Let’s try this a little bit differently.” So Bruce built Rat Park, and Rat Park is like heaven for rats. Everything your rat about town could want, it’s got in Rat Park. It’s got lovely food. It’s got sex. It’s got loads of other rats to be friends with. It’s got loads of colored balls. Everything your rat could want. And they’ve got both the water bottles. They’ve got the drugged water and the normal water. But here’s the fascinating thing. In Rat Park, they don’t like the drugged water. They hardly use any of it. None of them ever overdose. None of them ever use in a way that looks like compulsion or addiction. There’s a really interesting human example I’ll tell you about in a minute, but what Bruce says is that shows that both the right-wing and left-wing theories of addiction are wrong. So the right-wing theory is it’s a moral failing, you’re a hedonist, you party too hard. The left-wing theory is it takes you over, your brain is hijacked. Bruce says it’s not your morality, it’s not your brain; it’s your cage. Addiction is largely an adaptation to your environment. […] We’ve created a society where significant numbers of our fellow citizens cannot bear to be present in their lives without being drugged, right? We’ve created a hyperconsumerist, hyperindividualist, isolated world that is, for a lot of people, much more like that first cage than it is like the bonded, connected cages that we need. The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection. And our whole society, the engine of our society, is geared towards making us connect with things. If you are not a good consumer capitalist citizen, if you’re spending your time bonding with the people around you and not buying stuff—in fact, we are trained from a very young age to focus our hopes and our dreams and our ambitions on things we can buy and consume. And drug addiction is really a subset of that.”
— Johann Hari, Does Capitalism Drive Drug Addiction?
ok so. i cannot believe this has to be said. if you walk up to me and use he/him pronouns on fucking mahiro oyama i am not only blocking you but i am also wishing for your swift and immediate death. you are a transmisogynist and i hate you personally.
No amount of signage or even someone standing there saying card only would be enough.
Never underestimate a person’s ability to spontaneously develop Customer Cataracts.
Cash is king, if you won’t take my cash you’re breaking the law.
Vegas buffets say they don’t take cash anymore but also don’t charge you until you’re leaving. I only ever take cash, you’d be surprised how quickly they drop retarded rules when they might not get paid.
my brother in christ, this is about a supermarket self checkout. the only reason a self checkout is ever card only is if the cash intake is broken/not working. It's not about "retarded rules", that part of the machine just doesn't work and instead of just keeping it turned off, they put it in card only mode so it can still be useful. Dumbass
I've seen a lot of people compare and contrast Huntr/x with Amphibia's Calamity trio. I've also seen people speculate about the two groups meeting. But my brain recently started imagining Sashanarcy watching KPDH
Like, I'm imagining the girls getting super invested in the movie. But specifically, Marcy keeps begging Rumi to just tell Mira and zoey the truth, about the half-demon thing. Especially the part after Free where the girls are talking and Mira and Zoey bare their souls and talk about their "faults and fears" but then Rumi kinda just sidesteps saying anything of value with a generic platitude "I'm afraid of losing you to, that's why we need to win this". Marcy is screaming and crying at this point because she sees rumi making the same mistakes she made and Sasha and Anne have to pause the movie for like half an hour to calm their girlfriend down.
then it gets to the part after rumi has been revealed and she is pleading and stumbling through a rambling explanation
Rumi: No. No! No! I was using him to fix all this! To fix me! So we could all do our duty! We could all be strong. Be together.
Zoey: How can we be together if we can't tell your truths from your lies Rumi?
that part just so eerily similar to True Colors. Marcy is stone silent at this point as they continue watching the movie. It's only once What it Sounds gets going that her mood improves. Especially the big hug in the song.
It is now the girls' new favorite movie and of course all three of them are polytrix shipper girlies.
I GOT A FUCKING RAISE THE POTATO WORKED WTF
Happy Valentine's Day!
Keeping it mostly simple this year. I've been BUSY with other projects, so this one almost snuck up on me, honestly. But I still tried to bring the cuteness, and it's kinda fun just posting sketches alongside colored art.
And I still bring you the sillies as per usual, but that goes without saying.
For those wondering about the top right btw, that image comes courtesy of the Cloak and Dagger accessory from Marvel Rivals. When you equip plush accessories that hang off your characters, you get a little character visual with an animation on the right side of your screen every time you get a kill or assist. And the Cloak and Dagger one is SO FREAKING CUTE.
Sorry to the two of you who made suggestions on what to draw when I asked for help, only for me to...not do either of them (lol I guess). I WANTED to do one of them, but struggled to even messily sketch it for some reason. Maybe another day, though. Next time I need suggestions, I'll try asking earlier in advance so I don't feel like I'm hastily throwing something together, even if it turns out good.
Do you think Naomi Novik ever looks at AO3
sees some incest mpreg
and whispers to herself “I never wanted this.”
No. :)
I started using Head and Shoulders ten years ago for itchy scalp and dandruff, and then for ten years I have not had itchy scalp and dandruff, so I thought “why do I still buy shampoo to combat itchy scalp and dandruff when I do not have itchy scalp and dandruff,” so I stopped buying the shampoo for itchy scalp and dandruff and can you guess I have now? Can you predict what currently afflicts me? It’s alright if you can’t because apparently I fuckin couldn’t either
Cutting something out of your life because you think you don’t need it any more only to realize that it was in fact working as intended and preventing a problem that will return should you stop doing this is a good experiment to run periodically with something small like dandruff shampoo, lest you start to think it would be a good idea to do this with like let’s say public health and the social safety net and vaccines
I had a liver transplant when I was 14 and like six months later I was chatting with my surgeon and he said “there’s gonna come a time, probably when you’re a teenager, where you’re gonna think, ‘I feel great, why am I still taking all this medication? I haven’t needed it in years.’ and you’re gonna want to stop taking all this medication. Guess what’s gonna happen then? You’re gonna go into rejection and your liver is gonna start failing, and you’re gonna be dying again, and we’re gonna have to find you another liver. So don’t do that.” And I said “why the fuck would anyone do that?” and he said “people are stupid.”
every once in a while when I get annoyed by a pharmacy or don’t wanna get out of bed to do my drugs I think “ugh, this is dumb, why do I do this?” and that conversation slams into me like a truck and I remember that I am, in fact, stupid
