One of the reasons why I'm excited for a canon Avatrice, but also one of the reasons why I'm not sweating it too much, is because Warrior Nun is also simply a good show. So many shows that put queer characters front and center have had to contend with low budgets, bad writing, bad CGI, bad acting, to the extent that fandoms have grown to love campiness as a sign that a show is "for us". (If queer characters were introduced in a predominantly non-queer show the writing and production quality would often be good with regard to everything but the queer characters, then the writing would suddenly go down the drain.) Warrior Nun has great writing, superb cinematography, amazing acting, and just great production quality on the whole. There's plenty to love outside the queer representation, which is exactly why I would love a canon Avatrice, because I think the gays deserve a high quality show which puts a well-developed queer relationship front and center. But if it doesn't happen? Well, it's still a high quality show about a group of kickass women supporting each other through hardship against a common enemy. None of us know what'll happen in S2, and I'm as wary as the next person of getting caught in a fandom bubble of confirmation bias where it's all too easy to convince yourself by off-canon hints and promises that it's definitely happening. But it's not even the main reason I'm watching. Because it's a damn good show, and it deserves to be watched.
