A pattern I've noticed, and desperately hope others pick up on it too.
Step 1: A piece of media comes out, and it's popular.
Step 2: Said piece of media becomes popular to hate. (Reasons to hate it don't have to be coherent or sensible)
Step 3: Another piece of media comes out, and it's also popular.
Step 4: Fans of Secondary Media will scream at fans of the First to "Stay out" and continuously compare the two pieces of media, often unfairly.
Step 5: The fandom of the Second Media cannibalizes itself.
Step 6: The second Media is now also popular to hate.
Rinse and repeat.
I also want to mention - that after enough time (Like years) - The "Popular to Hate" media will go through a type of renaissance.
Do you have any idea how much people hated Twilight? Now it's beloved. (For some reason) But people are also being extremely normal about it.
The MLP fandom has also recovered. (With the aid of apocalyptic plague AUs, but you do what you gotta do)
some people don’t deserve fanfics, much less for free.
also even if authors didn’t tag any specific warnings but they used the “creator chose not to use archive warnings” tag, then that is your warning.
“omg you should’ve —” no one forced your entitled ass to read anything. fanfic writers write for themselves and their own enjoyment. if you don’t like what you’re reading, quietly leave. ao3 is not an airport. no one cares about your departure so no need to announce it.
i would rather see the information for an event handwritten in sharpie on a paper towel than see another AI generated flyer
Saving this post to show my boss who I told the AI flier makes us look lazy and ignorant, and offered to hand draw one. She still printed tons of ai fliers and I'm tempted to make a better one just because it annoys me so much.
Fun update: event was canceled because literally nobody rsvp'd to the AI flier.
