Steven Universe: Eh, I don't really feel like saying "girlfriend" or "wife". Maybe they're together. They have a special connection...
(gets violently shoved aside)
The Loud House/Craig of the Creek/The Owl House: Pfft, amateur. "My GIRLFRIEND Sam and I..." "I'm texting my GIRLFRIEND, mind your business." "Luz's new GF showed her..."
Can we not do this thing? Do you realize that Rebecca had to fight for what we got with Rupphire and literally risked her job? and Pearl and Rose. Like, there is no need to knock other shows down because of Lumity.
These kids today, I tell you what. In my day you had to bury your girlfriends under subtext and then end the series when the truth was revealed.
Risked her job, hell, it's an open secret now that the Rupphire wedding (which, may I remind folks, was the first queer wedding in a kids' cartoon, which is a BIG DEAL) is why everything about the rest of the series felt rushed. They had to scramble to tell the rest of the story because they took a gamble and the network retaliated by shortening their production time.
Rebecca Sugar and the crewniverse risked the entire show getting flat-out cancelled in order to show that wedding, only for people to say it "wasn't progressive enough" and was "giving in to stereotypes" to put Ruby in a wedding dress. Never mind that Ruby kept getting dubbed over as a guy in localization, Sapphire was unmistakably feminine in every version, and putting Ruby in the dress was a flagrant way to say, "fuck you, you can't pretend this is a straight couple; this is a queer couple and a queer wedding."
Dana Terrace has said that The Owl House only exists with its intended queerness because of what Rebecca Sugar and her team accomplished with Steven Universe. Hell, there are multiple members of the Steven Universe team who went on to work on the other shows mentioned in the OP--Steven Sugar, for example, who is Rebecca Sugar's brother and inspiration for SU in the first place (as well a background artist on the show), is currently an artist on The Owl House. There are people who got their start on Steven Universe who now only have the opportunity to tell more queer stories because of Steven Universe's success.
I'm not even 30 years old yet and I'm still old enough to remember when being gay was fully illegal in the United States. Not gay marriage, but literally just BEING GAY. It wasn't that long ago, and the fact that today in 2021 I can turn on the TV and watch gay cartoons intended for children? I never thought I'd see it. Fucking ever.
So let's stop pitting queer creators and media against each other, shall we?
So often older shows that seem pitifully lackluster by today's audience's standards were hard-fought, BIG-ASS DEALS in their contemporary context. (And for the record, calling SU or something like Korra 'older' to me feels bizarre af, I'm 28, this is all new to me in some ways. This is all extraordinary and the opposite of lackluster.) What you're seeing is an extraordinary amount of progress over the last mere ten years. Don't knock it.
Iâll never understand why anthropomorphic animal cartoons like Robin Hood and Zootopia will go to the trouble of creating character designs that are meant to be understood as âattractiveâ or even âsexyâ to the human audience but explicitly avoid showing interspecies romances between anthropomorphic animals. Why is THAT weird but, like, trying to make rabbits recognizably sexy-coded to humans isnât?
Sometimes, sure, but why was Maid Marian a fox in Robin Hood? There wasnât anything particularly âfoxlikeâ about her personality, and it would make more sense for her to be a lion. They made her a fox only because Robin was a fox and making her something else would be âweirdâ, but I donât think the wolf cop or the chicken maid or the lion prince were actually meant to represent race.
The best inter species couple is Kermit and Miss Piggy as the Cratchits in A Muppet Christmas Carol, because all their sons are frogs and all their daughters are pigs, as God clearly intended.
there are only two genders: frog and pig
Iâve pointed out to my friends that the fact that Kermit and Miss Piggyâs kids are like that means either
1) they reproduce asexually and the children are clones of each parent OR
2) Kermit and Miss Piggy are members of the same sexually dimorphic species, hence the split between their male and female children
yes I have spent too long running about potential muppet biology
oh god
Third option, when they want kids they get some fabric and make one, and hope a Hand inhabits it
Do you think thereâs a ritual for inviting An Inhabiting Hand to possess the empty husk of your muppet baby?
Just wanted to show u guys that in Muppets Most Wanted, Piggy fantasizes about her and Kermit having babies and this is what they look like
So do with that what you will
Recall that in The Great Muppet Caper, Kermit and Fozzie are brothers. And this was their dad (right):
Thank you for specifying, which one of the two individuals in the picture was the dad haha
I, for one, think Shrek handled interspecies coupling the best. By this I am of course talking about the Dronkeys.
In season 3 of BoJack Horseman, we learn Diane (middle) has been impregnated by Mr. Peanutbutter (left). The fetuses are confirmed to be puppies.
This is the worst addition to this post
I am reminded of Treasure Planet.
In which Captain Amelia (left), an extra terrestrial anthropomorphic cat, had hybrid babies with Doctor Doppler (middle), an extra terrestrial anthropomorphic dog, whom also gave birth to the babies
I always thought that in muppet movies like muppet Christmas Carol the characters are played by the muppets (so kermit is acting and playing the role of Bob rather than being him) so the kids in that film would just be other acting muppets right?
Or is that just something my brain made up?

In Leo the Lion (2005) a lion and elephant have the most cursed hybrid children and I think yall should see them
(also Matt Mercer voices the villain, Maximus Elefante and I think thatâs very important)

Meanwhile, on Twitter:
Brain farts, a thread
Reblogging this once again because, once again, it made me laugh.
Hey, if you don't have something nice to say about other people's creations (gifsets, art, fic etc)
then
don't say anything at all.
You're telling me you think you have a right to give unsolicited criticism on fandom content that someone made for free? No. You don't. There is a huge difference between giving someone constructive criticism when they invite it, and rolling into their comments and replies to tell a creator you don't like their work.
The former is a cooperative collaboration. The latter? It's useless. It's not something the creator asked for, it's not what fandom content is about.
The unsolicited negative opinion of some Internet stranger, even if it's given with the aim to be helpful (which it rarely is, to be honest) often does more harm than good.
Fandom content is first and foremost made for the creator. They write the fic they want to read or post the gifsets they want to see.
They post because they want to share that joy within a community, and if they want constructive criticism they will ask for it and invite trusted individuals they know to offer it.
Also not every creative endeavour is practice "for the real thing". Not everyone wants to improve. Sometimes they just want to make a thing and be satisfied with it.

That ... was unexpected
I've actually seen the update to this post. The two talked it out and she brought up her concerns not only for him spending nearly all his time digging, but also concerns about his safety while digging (gasses, the tunnel collapsing). He hadn't realized he had been spending so much time in the tunnel and hadn't thought about the possible risks. So what does he do?
He starts making time for his partner, and also starts looking into stuff to make the digging a safer thing to do. He doesn't stop digging, but he limits how much of it he's doing so it isn't consuming all of his time.
I was so happy to see that the two of them talked it out like adult. That's something that rarely happens on the internet.
Mole Instinct
Much respect for the fact that she's comfortable with his fossorial lifestyle as long as his habitat is structurally sound and he's still getting healthy social enrichment.

i think it is very depressing that like every aesthetic people try to emulate are of people doing things but they themselves are incapable of being somebody that does things⊠the mall goth 2005 aesthetic revived in 2022 but nobody goes to the mall to be annoying and weird and nobody lets themselves be cringe⊠the cottagecore aesthetic but nobody knows how to raise gardens or live self sufficiently ⊠the dark academia aesthetic but nobody actually reads booksâŠ. The obsession of looking like you are a type of person who does something without actually doing anything ⊠the Instagram effect
we used to call them Posers.
I needed this.
Thank you to all the people who posted this so I ended up seeing it. I really needed this right now. Thank you!
Yeah⊠Not gonna lie⊠I criedâŠ
We need more people like this
Goddamn it stop making me feel human
The therapist I wanna be.
Text in the image:
âIâm a therapist and keep this poster in my waiting room, apparently itâs saved a few lives.â
I donât like the phrase âa cry for help.â I just donât like how it sounds. When somebody says to me, âIâm thinking about suicide. I have a plan: I just need a reason not to do it,â the last thing I see is helplessness.
I think your depression has been beating you up for years. Itâs called you ugly, and stupid, and pathetic, and a failure, for so long that youâve forgotten that itâs wrong. You donât see any good in yourself, and you donât have any hope.
But still here you are: youâve come over to me, banged on my door and said, âHEY! Staying alive is REALLY HARD right now! Just give me something to fight with! I donât care if itâs a stick! Give me a stick and I can stay alive!â
How is that helpless? I think thatâs incredible. Youâre like a marine: trapped for years behind enemy lines. Your gun has been taken away, youâre out of ammo, youâre malnourished, and youâve probably caught some kind of jungle virus thatâs making you hallucinate giant spiders.
And youâre still just going, âGIVE ME A STICK. IâM NOT DYING OUT HERE.â âA cry for helpâ makes it sound like Iâm supposed to take pity on you, but you donât need my pity. This isnât pathetic. This is the will to survive. This is how humans lived long enough to become the dominant species.
With NO hope, running on NOTHING, youâre ready to cut through a hundred miles of hostile jungle with nothing but a stick, if thatâs what it takes to get to safety.
All Iâm doing is handing out sticks.
Youâre the one saying alive.
I legit cried at this. Iâve needed to hear it put this way. Bless this post.
Every time I see this post I stop to read the whole image. It always helps â even on the good days.
Because it wasnât weakness. It wasnât shameful to seek help. It wasnât pathetic to âcry for helpâ. I was looking for a stick, be that from myself or from someone else. I was trying to find a way out. I was trying to heal myself.
this is fuckin incredible.Â
Iâm sorry if I repost to many of these, but if it could be someoneâs âstickâ then itâs worth it
For anyone that needs to read this today.Â
-FemaleWarrior, She/TheyÂ
They also have this one and I think quite a few others but these two I keep on my phone and pull up on my bad days.
Text on second poster:
âWHY ARE YOU SO LAZY?â
But youâre not lazy. Lazy is when you shrug things off because you canât summon up the give-a-damn. When youâre curled up tight in your chair at your desk, alone and grey and desperately wishing that you had your life in order, that you did all those things you had to do, that it didnât feel like breaking rocks just to feed and clothe yourself and get some sleep, thatâs not lazy.
People donât understand. You tell them âItâs hard.â They tell you âNo it isnât, youâre just lazy.â
You start to wonder if theyâre right.
is breaking those rocks easy for everyone else? Are they that much stronger than you?
They donât look like theyâre struggling.
âJust try harder,â they say. But youâre trying. Itâs not working.
Breaking boulders in your path until youâre spent isnât lazy. And you do it day after day after day.
Youâre not lazy. Most people donât have those rocks to break. They donât even know what itâs like to have to break rocks to get things done. They donât understand how hard you have to work, and how hopeless you can feel, when you try and fail to do what they do so easily. Things are harder for you. They really are. And if those people had to deal with your problems, they wouldnât be doing any better.
Youâre not lazy. Youâre not weak. Youâre fighting hard. I guess I just want you to know that I know that.
